As soon as handicaps are available for this cup competition they will be placed here

If you would like to know how handicaps are calculated for this competition and the format this competition will undertake this year, please read on.

Qualification Criteria

A player must have played in 3 of the 1st 11 games of the season for the side he wishes to represent.

If a player has played more than 3 times for more than 1 side then he must state which side he wants to be eligible for.

If you were eligible for a B and a C Team and you selected the B team but didn't play in the 1st round and the B team lost you cannot then switch to the C team.

Once the handicaps have been produced then they will be fixed for the duration of the competition.

Handicaps are based on players averages. If it is clear that a player has an average not representative of his true and current ability then the committee will adjust his handicap before the competition begins. It will then be fixed for the duration of the competition.

How the handicap marks are allocated and match format

After 11 matches of the season players current averages will be noted.

If you imagine a team, I will use Milnrow as my example, has players Duncan, Roger, Phil and Simon and at the halfway point of the league fixtures their individual averages are Duncan has 100%, Roger has 50%, Phil has 25% and Simon has 10%.

The handicap is simply “What is the difference between the players average and the number 100”.

Therefore Duncan would end up with a handicap of 0, Roger would be 50, Phil 75 and Simon would be 90.

Obviously on the night only 3 players can be selected. There are no rules on that - You choose whichever players you want. Milnrow can choose any combination of the above eligible players. For arguments sake we will say Milnrow select Duncan (0), Roger (50) and Simon (90) giving them a team handicap of 140.

Milnrow's opponents are Prestwich. They have John on 80% (So he is given a handicap of 20), Bill 60% (40), Fred 50% (50) and James 40% (60).

Prestwich select John, Bill and James, giving them a team handicap of 20+40+60 = 120

So the match would start at 140-120.

You then play through the card as you would always play the card but the matches are 4 sets of 11 up and you play 4 sets no matter what the outcome 4-0, 3-1, 2-2 etc.

Each set starts at 0-0, You must win a set by at least 2 clear points, as normal.

You cannot use a 4th player for the doubles.

So let us presume the 1st match is Duncan vs Bill and Duncan wins all of the sets 11-5. The result of that game is therefore 44-20. You would then add these points to the starting scores so the current match score would be 184 - 140.
