DIVISION ONE

Radcliffe CC beat Ramsbottom Town C 8-2 at home. Rob Hall with current and three time men’s closed champion Graham Jeffries making a rare appearance in the League both won their three and Mick Dore added two more. Martin Wyatt won one for the visitors and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom Town A beat Seedfield A 10-0 at home but had to go to five games in three sets to get their maximum. Mick Moir for the home team beat Peter Mears at five in the fifth, Khamal Hussain beat David Poytress at four in the fifth and Andy Jackson beat Rob Carter at six in the fifth. St.Philips A beat Prestwich A 6-4 at home with Dennis Taylor winning his three for the home team, Derek Watmough won two and they added the doubles. Dave Cheetham won two for Prestwich, Colin Boardman one and reserve Peadar McKinstry one. Burning Desire beat Adelphi 7-3 at home. Andy Kaye won his three for the home team, Bill Russell and Ben Armstrong two each. Tommy Ryan won two for the visitors including the last set of the night at seven in the fifth against Bill Russell.

 

DIVISION TWO

Polish Catholic Club beat Seedfield B 7-3 away and Mick Hill won his three though his last set of the night was only won at four in the fifth against Julian Nuttall. Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne each added two for Polish. Andy Hamilton and Stephen Siddall each won one for the home side and they added the doubles. Prestwich B beat their C team 8-2 and both teams are in comfortable promotion spots. Despite the one sided score line five sets went to five and the B team won four of them including a 19-17 in the fifth by Dave Bolton over Joe Redikin. Andy Evans and Dave Bolton were unbeaten for the B team and Bryan Beer added two more. Peadar McKinstry won one for the C team and they won the doubles. Prestwich E lost 4-6 at home to Carlton Club B. Keith Butler won two for the home team, Ken Crimes and Barrie Fleet added one each. Jim Bloomfield and Mark Reading each won two for the visitors, John Foster one and they won the doubles. Prestwich D beat ELPM A 7-3 at home and Paul Howarth was in good form for the home team with three wins, Steve Hathaway won tow, Alex Waring one and they won the doubles. Carol Mitchell, John Dawes and an injured Andy McCheyne each won one for the visitors. Stand were leading the match 4-3 before St.Philips reeled off the last three sets for a 6-4 win. Chris Sutcliffe, Dave Jackson and Steve Morris each won one for the home team and they won the doubles at six in the fifth. Four singles matches went the distance with the visitors winning three out of four. John Biggins led the way for the visitors with three fine wins, Dave Holden two and Ian Wheeldon one.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield D beat Shawfield B 6-4 at home with Alistair McKernan, Alan Telfer and Frank Carse each winning two for the home side. Wayne Ellis won his three for the visitors and they just scraped the doubles at nine in the fifth. Holmar A were too good for Hilton YMCA winning 10-0 at home. Phil Wardle, David Fletcher and Ian McPherson each won their three plus the doubles. Elton Vale TT Club beat bottom team ELPM C 10-0 and maintain their top place in the division. Graham Daniels, Mark Craven and Mike Nicholls each won their three for the home team and they added the doubles. ELPM B helped their promotion place with an emphatic 9-1 win at home against Elton Vale Sports Club. Mark Willmore led the way with three wins as did Paul Carter, Steve Greaves two and they won the doubles. DIVISION FOUR

Prestwich F beat Holmar B 8-2 at home. Rod Hughes and Paul Rourke won their three for Prestwich and Alistair Wakefield added two. Only Jim Eardley could get on the scorecard for Holmar with one win and they won the doubles. Holmar C faired a lot better in their 9-1 home win against Shawfield D despite six sets going the distance. Jim Millington and Jack Berry each won three for Holmar, Ian Ferrari two and they won the doubles. Andrew Ingham won the solitary set for Shawfield. Despite losing to Robert Clayton of Maccabi C at eight in the fifth Barry Warburton won his other two for Bury Grammar School Old Boys A and his wins keeps him comfortably on top of the averages. Bury Grammar added the doubles to their tally. Robert Clayton was unbeaten for Maccabi, Frank Sheldon and Sheldon Lee each added two. Shawfield C beat Seedfield E 10-0 at home and it was Ashley Ingham, Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster who each won their three for the home team and they won the doubles. Jonathan Fitton was unlucky for the visitors not to get on the score card when he lost in five to both Peter Gregory and Ashley Ingham. Carlton Club C beat Shawfield E 9-1 to keep their promotion hopes up. Keith Cheyne and John Bostock each won their three, Clive Roberts two and they added the doubles. Brian Philip won the one for the visitors.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Holmar D beat Seedfield G away 10-0. Alan Fletcher, Gerald Quemeneur and David Bell each won their three and the doubles at three in the fifth. Adam Simpson was in fine form winning three for Seedfield F in his home team’s 4-6 loss at home to division leaders Maccabi E. Seedfield added the doubles at seven in the fifth. All Maccabi’s players Louis Samuels, Peter Canter and Edward Freeman did take Adam Simpson to five but he was too strong on the night. Maccabi F maintained their pressure on promotion spot by beating rivals Wardle 7-3 at home. Jack Nesbit was in the best form by winning his three for Maccabi including a tight seven in the fifth win over David Watts. Yoni Morrison added two, Alan Nesbit one and they won a close doubles at seven in the fifth. David Watts won two for the visitors and Jack Gratton one. Ramsbottom TT Academy A beat their B team 9-1 to keep their promotion hopes up. Callum Stott and Tom Warburton each won three for the A team, Nick Kroll two and the doubles at four in the fifth. Domonic Siddall won the one set for the B team against Nick Kroll at nine in the fourth. Shawfield G beat Holmar E 6-4 at home and Michael Eaton led the way for the home team with three wins, Dean Walmsley and Sam Burgoyne each won one and they added the doubles. Nigel Shaw and John Heyes each won two for Holmar. Shawfield F lost 2-8 at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B. John Greenhalgh and John Rowlands did the damage for the visitors with three wins each, David Jeffrey added one and they won the doubles. Jason Wild and Scott Fleming each won one for Shawfield.

 

Closed Championships for 2011

The League Closed championships are being held on Sunday 20th March and not the 27th as in the handbook. It is being held at the Radclyffe School, Hunt Lane, Chadderton, Oldham. OL9 0LS. It is where the Oldham League has previously held their championships and is only 9 miles from the centre of Bury. Finals Night will be on Thursday14th April at Elton Sports Club. The events held will be Open Doubles, Over 40 veterans, over 60 veterans, Divisional Handicapped Singles, Open Singles and Open Juniors.  Entries on line at www.burytabletennis.org.uk
