DIVISION ONE
Prestwich B lost 1-9 at home to Little Lever and the unbeaten players were Steve McNicholas, Phil Riley and Ronnie Durose. Prestwich lost to their A team 4-6 though the unbeaten player was Lee Devenport for the C team. Eddie Simon added one win to Lee’s tally. Duncan Hadfield and Dave Cheetham each won two for the A team, Paul and they won the doubles. Carlton Club A lost 4-6 at home to Radcliffe Cricket Club. Graham Jeffries was the unbeaten player on the night for the visitors. Rob Hall added two and Mick Dore one though Micks opening set of the night was close when he narrowly lost at ten in the fifth to Ian Quinn. Ian won one beating Rob Hall in the last set of the night at eight in the fourth. Phil Myers beat Mick Dore at five in the fifth. Gary Newton also beat Mick in a very tight five games eventually closing it out at nine in the fifth. Carlton also won the doubles. St.Philips was well beaten at home by Burning Desire when Andy Kaye, Ben Armstrong and Steve Barber were unbeaten in their 10-0 win.
DIVISION TWO
Hovering in the relegation zone is Prestwich E who took four fine points off Maccabi A who are at the opposite side of the table looking for promotion. Both Alex Waring and Barrie Fleet each won two for Prestwich. Barrie had a fine win at seven in the fifth against Stuart Landes and in the last set of the night Alex beat Dean Clyne at seven in the fifth, Dean and Stuart each won two for Maccabi, Alan Meltzer one and they won the doubles. Carlton Club B beat Holmar A 7-3 at home. Mark Reading was unbeaten for Carlton, Stuart carter added two, John Foster one and they won the doubles. Phil Wardle, Ian McPherson and David Fletcher each won one for Holmar. ELPM A beat Seedfield C 6-4 at home but it was David Poytress for the visitors who were the unbeaten player on the night. Seedfield also won the doubles. John Dawes, Ian Cockcroft and Paul Carter each won two for ELPM. Polish Catholic Club beat Carlton Vale 8-2 at home. Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne were unbeaten for Polish, Eddie Robakowski added one and they won the doubles. Chris Sutcliffe and Dave Jackson each won one for Carlton Vale. In a very tight match Elton Vale A came good at the end of the match to win the last two sets to get a draw against Prestwich D. The last two sets were the only ones which went to five. Martin Nicholls beat Mohammed Sagied at eleven in the fifth and Graham Daniels just got the better of Joe Redikin at ten in the fifth. Graham and Mark Craven each won two for Elton and Martin added one. Steve Hathaway won two for Prestwich, Joe and Mohammed each won one and they won the doubles at five in the fourth.
DIVISION THREE
Elton Vale Sports Club B drew at
home with Maccabi C. Jim Bollard was unbeaten for the home side, John Dodd
added one and they won the doubles. John Hilton to Marc Sheldon to five but
just lost out to the Maccabi player who won two on the night. Farther Frank won
one and Sheldon Lee won two. Seedfield B beat ELPM B 7-3 at home but their task
was made easier because ELPM only had two players. Steve Greaves was unbeaten
for ELPM and despite going to five in his sets with Alan Telfer and Ian Boyle
Gerry Faulkner just missed added to Steve’s tally. Alan, Ian and Mike Charlton
each won two for Seedfield and won the doubles at eleven in the fourth.
Ramsbottom Town B beat Seedfield C 8-2 at home. Martin Ormsby and Joe Walk were
unbeaten for Ramsbottom, Roger Whewell added one and they won the doubles.
Stephen Siddall and Jonathan Fitton each won one for Seedfield. A 9-1 win at
home cemented Hilton YMCA’s position at the top of the table and Wayne Ellis
was the only winner for Shawfield B when he beat Jimmy Hewitt. Alan Cowley and
Rob Bent were the unbeaten players for Hilton and they won the doubles. Maccabi
B beat Carlton Club C 7-3 at home. Daniel Sheldon, Melvyne Levene and Robert
Clayton each won two and they won the doubles in a very tight set which Maccabi
won at eight in the fifth. John Bostock won two for Carlton and Keith Cheyne
won his last set of the night at nine in the fifth against Melvyne Levene.
DIVISION FOUR
Maccabi E lost 4-6 at home to Shawfield D. Peter Canter won two for Maccabi, Edward Freeman one and they won the doubles. Reserve for Shawfield James Collier had three fine wins in a division higher, Brian Philip won two and Alistair McIver one. Holmar C lost 4-6 at home to juniors Ramsbottom TT Academy A. Roy Steventon and Jack Berry each won two for Holmar. Callum Stott and Nick Kroll each won two for Ramsbottom, Tom Warburton one and they won the doubles. Maccabi F drew at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys A and three wins from Barry Warburton for the visitors keeps his challenge for the top ten medal alive. Andy Evans added one more win and they won the doubles. Alan Nesbitt and Yoni Morrison each won two for Maccabi and Jack Nesbitt added one. Certain for promotion Prestwich F beat their G team 10-0 and the usual trio of Paul Rourke, Alistair Wakefield and Rod Hughes were the unbeaten players. Shawfield C beat and understrength Holmar B 10-0 at home. Ashley Ingham, Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster were the unbeaten Shawfield players. Four of the sets did go to five but David Bell and Gary Bolton moved up from division five and found the going just a bit too tough to pull off any wins.
DIVISION FIVE
Seedfield Methodists D beat Holmar E 7-3 at home and Mike Ollerton led the way with three wins, Steve Greenall two, Ian McKenzie one and they won the doubles at eight in the fourth. Ian lost his opening set of the night at two in the fifth against John Heyes who won two on the night and Nigel Shaw added the other win. Graham Wardle lost at eight in the fifth to both Ian McKenzie and Steve Greenall. Juniors Shawfield G drew with their F team and Joshua Fallows led the way for the juniors with three wins. Michael Eaton won one and they won the doubles. Jason Wild and Scott Fleming each won two for the F team and Graham Broomhead added one. Junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy B drew with Wardle Conservative Club despite the visitors only having two players. David Watts won his customary three for Wardle and Peter Ward added the other win plus they won the doubles. Dominic Siddall and eight year old Amir Hussain each won two for Ramsbottom and Amelia Behrens added the other win. Holmar D beat junior team Maccabi G 6-4 at home. Alan Fletcher and David Bell each won two, Gary Bolton added one and they won the doubles. Sam Ballin won two for Maccabi, Ashley Landes and Yoni Finke each added one. ELPM D beat Seedfield E 10-0 at home. Two sets went to five which Mario Piazza just got the best of Graham Wright at eight in the fifth and Mario winning again at ten in the fifth against Barry Simpson.
