Division 1

Prestwich A took full advantage of an under strength Little Lever when they beat them 9-1 at home. George Jones made a welcomed return to the League for Prestwich after an accident at a match during the first half of the season. George lost none of his touch by winning his three along with Dave Cheetham. Colin Boardman won two and Prestwich won the doubles. Steve McNicholas won the one set for the visitors. Radcliffe confirmed their second place in the division when they beat Adelphi 10-0 at home. Rob Hall, Mick Dore and Bury Singles Championship Renton were their unbeaten players. Ramsbottom C beat Seedfield A 6-4 at home and Martin Wyatt was unbeaten for the home team. Day Kay added two and Les Phillipson one. David Poytress won two for Seedfield, Rob Carter one plus they won the doubles. Carlton Club A with a two man team lost 2-8 at home to BAE. Ian Quinn for Carlton won their two sets. Tom Lang won three, Tony Smith and Tony Bates each won two and they won the doubles. St.Philips lost 1-9 to divisional winners for the twelfth successive year and eighteen years as Ramsbottom Town A. Mick Moir and Andy Jackson won their three and have tied for matches played and won for the top ten so a play off has to be arranged. Mark Ramsbottom completed the winning line up. St.Philips won the doubles.

 

Division 2

Seedfield B lost 0-10 at home to St.Philips B where Gareth Palmer, Dave Holden and Dave Scowcroft won their three. Three sets went to five and all were won by St.Philips. Andy Hamilton lost at nine in the fifth to Dave Scowcroft and six in the fifth to Gareth Palmer. Julian Nuttall lost the last set of the night at nine in the fifth to Gareth Palmer. Prestwich B beat an under strength Maccabi A 9-1 at home which seals their promotion to division one next season having not been beaten this season. Andy Evans of Prestwich also clinches the top ten and with Dave Bolton were unbeaten on the night. Maccabi put up a good fight taking the doubles to a fifth game and Robert Clayton from division four beat Bryan Beer for their sole point. Prestwich D took on their E team and drew with all players contributing to the score. Reserve Alistair Wakefield had two fine wins for the D team, Alex Waring and Paul Howarth each added one and they won the doubles. Barrie Fleet and Simon King each won two and Ken Crimes won one. ELPM A beat Stand 7-3 at home and John Dawes for the home team was the unbeaten player on the night. Carol Mitchell added two, Paul Carter one and they won the doubles. Chris Sutcliffe won two for Stand and Dave Jackson added one. Prestwich C beat Carlton Club B 8-2 at home which secured their runners up spot to their B team and promotion to the top division.  Peadar McKinstry was the home team’s unbeaten player. Eddie Simon lost at eight in the fifth to Mark Reading but won his remaining two. Joe Redikin also won two losing Steve Evans at seven in the forth. Prestwich also won the doubles.

 

 

Division 3

Seedfield D drew at home to Elton Vale Sports Club. Frank Carse won two for the home team, Ali McKiernan and Phil Cooper one each and they won the vital doubles for the draw at nine in the fifth. Two other sets went to five and both were won by the home team. Phil Cooper won at eight in the fifth against Keith Mills and Frank Carse won at seven in the fifth also against Keith Mills who won one for the visitors. Jim Bollard and Frank Green each won two. Holmar A inflicted a 9-1 beating at home of Maccabi B. Melvyne Levene won the sole set for Maccabi when he beat Ian McPherson. David Fletcher and Phil Wardle were unbeaten for Holmar. Elton Vale TT Club beat Shawfield A 9-1 at home and confirmed their top spot in this division. Graham Daniels and Mark Craven were unbeaten for Elton, Martin Nicholls added two and they won the doubles. Holmar C lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi D. Buz Cohen for Maccabi was the unbeaten player on the night, Sheldon Lee won two and Aubrey Huller one. Jack Berry, Trevor Candler and John Millington each won one for Holmar and they won the doubles. Shawfield B beat Seedfield C 6-4 at home and Wayne Ellis won his three for the home team, Dave Stubbington two and they won the doubles. Alan Carse won one for Seedfield with Peter Ingham and Mike Charlton each adding one. ELPM B drew at home with Hilton YMCA where it was Alan Cowley for the visitors who was unbeaten. He inflicted a rare defeat on Mark Willmore who despite that sneaks the top ten medal by one point from Graham Daniels of Elton TT Club. ELPM’s draw seals their runners up spot to Elton Vale TT Club. Chris Naylor added one win to Hilton YMCA and they won the doubles. Paul Carter and Mark Willmore won two each and Gerry Faulkner won one. ELPM C beat St.Sebastians 10-0 at home but the results is not enough to take them from the foot of the division and St.Sebastians finished just two points away from 10th spot and they regular players did not play. Gillian Marsden, John Edge and Harry Uren were the unbeaten ELPM players.

Division 4

Carlton Club C just beat Prestwich F 6-4 at home in a tight match where four sets went the full distance. This win secures their promotion to the third division next season. Steve Evans was unbeaten for Carlton and Keith Cheyne won to plus they added the doubles. Alistair Wakefield won two for Prestwich, Rod Hughes and Grzegorz Greda each won one. Bury Grammar School Old Boys A lost 4-6 at home to Shawfield C but Barry Warburton comfortably takes the top ten medal being nine wins clear of against Alistair Wakefield of Prestwich. Barry won his customary three and Andy Evans added one. Peter Gregory and Roger Snowden each won two for the visitors, Andrew Webster one and they added the doubles. Shawfield E lost 3-7 at home to Ramsbottom D and it was Roger Whewell and Martin Ormsby for Ramsbottom who were unbeaten plus they won the doubles. Lauren Brassington, Brian Philip and Eric Holmes each won one for Shawfield. Shawfield D beat Seedfield E 10-0 at home and it was Andrew Ingham, Alistair McIver and Andrew Webster who were the unbeaten Shawfield players. Maccabi C drew at home and this result was enough to give them the winners spot for this division. Les Suss and Frank Sheldon each won two and Sheldon Lee added one. Jim Eardley was unbeaten for Holmar, Martin Archer added one and they won the doubles.

 

Division 5

Seedfield F lost 4-6 at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B and it was Adam Simpson who was unbeaten for the home team which included an eight in the fifth win against John Greenhalgh. Steve Greenall added one for the home team. John Greenhalgh and John Rowlands each won two for the visitors and Phil Hilton one. Shawfield G beat Seedfield G where the visitor’s only win was against James Aadahl at ten in the forth. Dean Walmersley and Josh Fallows were unbeaten for the home team and they just won the doubles at nine in the fifth. Maccabi F beat Ramsbottom TT Academy B 10-0 at home. Alan and Jack Nesbit, Yonni Morrison were the unbeaten players. They were stretched in the doubles by Domonic Siddall and his Dad who was playing as a guest because Ramsbottom unfortunately only had one player. Top of the table and certain of promotion Maccabi E drew with Prestwich G who look to be out of the promotion race though Bob Goodman has secured the top ten medal with a match yet to play. Bob was unbeaten and John Herman won two for Prestwich. Peter Canter won two for Maccabi, Bobby Lee and Les Suss one each and they won the doubles. Lawrence Paynter for ELPM won his three to lead them to a 6-4 win away at Holmar E. Lawrence didn’t have it all his way and was pushed by Nigel Shaw and John Heyes of Holmar who won two each. Nigel came from two games down and just lost in five against Lawrence. John also came back from two games down against Antony Vindice to win at ten in the 5th. Mario Piazza for ELPM made a valiant effort being two games down only to lose at two in the fifth. Wardle drew with Shawfield F and it was David Watts who is back on form with three wins for the home team, Peter Ward added one and they won the doubles. Peter Helmn and Jason Wild each won two and Scott Fleming added one in a match that saw five sets go the distance. The runners up spot cannot be any closer with Ramsbottom TT Academy A winning 8-2 at home to Holmar D and drawing level on points with Maccabi F who have won one more match so take second spot with a week to go. Callum Stott and Tom Warburton each won their three, Nick Kroll added one and they won the doubles. Alan Fletcher and Gerald Quemeneur each won one for Holmar
