DIVISION ONE

Carlton Club A beat Adelphi 6-4 at home and Ian Quinn was in good form winning three for the home team. Phil Myers added two and they won the doubles. Over 60’s Champion Tommy Ryan of Adelphi won two for the visitors, Lee Devenport and Brett Haslam each added one. Radcliffe beat Prestwich A 7-3 at home where Jim Chadwick won his three for the home team, Rod Hall and Mick Dore added two each. George Jones was the only Prestwich player to get on the score card with two wins and they also won the doubles. Burning Desire held Little Lever to a draw and the result was helped by Ronnie Durose for Little Lever losing all his three. You have to go back to December 2009 in the match against Radcliffe CC where Ronnie last lost all three. Steve McNicholas and Phil Riley each won two for the visitors and they won the doubles. Steve Barber and Andy Kaye each won two for the home team and Ben Armstrong added the vital one for the draw. Ramsbottom A beat their C team 10-0 at home. Just two sets went to five when Martin Wyatt lost at three in the fifth against Andy Jackson. Martin Wyatt also lost at four in the fifth against Mark Ramsbottom. Mick Moir was the third A team player to win his three.

 

DIVISION TWO

Seedfield B lost 0-10 to early divisional contenders Prestwich C. Peadar McKinstry, Joe Redikin and Eddie Simon each won their three and they won the doubles. Andy Hamilton went close to a win for Seedfield when he lost at six in the fifth against Joe Redikin. Maccabi A lost 4-6 at home to the Polish Catholic Club but Stuart Landes of the home team won his three and was the only player to get on the score card. He did struggle against Mick Hill however but won through at four in the fifth. Alan Meltzer for Maccabi lost at seven in the fifth against Ian Byrne and fifth division reserve Alan Nesbit also lost to Ian Byrne at six in the fifth. The doubles was a close affair with Maccabi winning that at six in the fifth. Mick Hill, Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne each won two for the visitors. Prestwich D drew with St.Philips D and Dave Holden was on the best form on the night with three wins for the visitors, John Biggins added one and they won the vital doubles at ten in the fifth to secure the draw. Ian Wheeldon did not score for St.Philips after struggling all night with his new bat. In the reverse for Prestwich Alex Waring changed to his old bat and won two as did reserve Keith Butler and Steve Hathaway also struggled with his game but managed the one vital win for them to get the draw. Prestwich B won 7-3 at home to ELPM A. Dave Bolton won three on the night for the home team, Bryan Beer two, Andy Evans one and they won the doubles. John Dawes won two for ELPM and Andy McCheyne one. Stand held Carlton Club B to a draw and Chris Sutcliffe for the home team was unbeaten on the night. Dave Jackson won one and Stand won the doubles at eight in the fifth. Steve Morris for Stand came very close to getting on the score card for the home team when he lost at eight in the fifth against Mark Reading and five in the fifth against Stuart Carter. Carter won two for the visitors as did Reading and Jim Bloomfield won one.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield D beat ELPM C 7-3 at home where Ali McKernan, Phil Cooper and Alan Telfer each won two for Seedfield and they won the doubles. Five sets went the distance and the three sets that ELPM won went to five. Gill Marsden beat Alan Telfer at ten in the fifth and Phil Cooper at seven in the fifth. Harry Uren beat Ali McKernan at seven in the fifth. Holmar A had an 8-2 win at home to Elton Vale Sports Club. Ian McPherson won his three for Holmar, David Fletcher and Phil Wardle each added two and they won the doubles. Only Rodney Hall could get on the score card for Elton with two wins. Mark Willmore and John Dawes won their three for ELPM B in an 8-2 win at home to St.Sebastians. Steve Greaves added one and they won the doubles. Struggling in a higher division Dave Hargreaves and Mark Stevens managed one win each for the visitors. Graham Daniels remains unbeaten in the first four matches this season and won his three at home against Hilton YMCA. Mark Craven also won his three, Martin Nichols two and they won the doubles. Only Len Walker got on the score card for the visitors with one win. Shawfield A drew with their B team and Wayne Ellis was on the best form on the night winning three for the B team and Dave Stubbington adding one. Terry Shaw won two for the A team, Phil Herd and Paul Nutter one and they added the doubles.

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Despite three wins from Barry Warburton of BGSOB A he finished up on the losing side beaten 4-6 at home against Shawfield E. Andy Evans added one for BGSOB A. Brian Philip and Eric Holmes each won two for the visitors, Lauren Brassington one and they won the doubles. In a strong start to their season Carlton Club C continued their good form by beating Maccabi D 7-3 at home. However they didn’t have it all their way because three sets went to five and a further two to four. Keith Cheyne and John Bostock each won their three for Carlton and they won the doubles. Buz Cohen, Sheldon Lee and Marc Sheldon each won one for the visitors. Prestwich F had a resounding 9-1 win at home to Seedfield E where Jonathan Fitton was the only Seedfield player to register a win. Alistair Wakefield and Richard Hinchcliffe won their three for the home team, Ian Connell two and they won the doubles. Shawfield C over powered their D team by winning 10-0. Ashley Ingham, Peter Gregory and Roger Snowden each won three for the C team and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom D beat Holmar B 6-4 at home where Roger Whewell was in best form with three wins for Ramsbottom, Chris Leaves won two and they won the doubles. Roy Steventon did not manage to get on the score card. Three wins came from reserves Ian Ferrari who won two and John Millington one. Alan Hibbert added the other win. Ferrari had a good win over Chris Leaves at eight in the forth and took Whewell to eight in the fifth before losing.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Seedfield G lost 0-10 to Ramsbottom TT Academy A where Callum Stott, Nick Kroll and Tom Warburton each won three and they won the doubles. Only one set went to a fourth which Tom Warburton won for Ramsbottom at ten in the fourth against Jamie Howarth.  Seedfield F lost 4-6 at home to Wardle where Jack Gratton was on the best form for Wardle winning his three. Pater Ward and Neil Bamford each added one and they won the crucial doubles ten twelve in the fifth. Jamie Howarth and Adam Simpson each won two for Seedfield. Maccabi F beat Holmar E 9-1 at home with Graham Wardle winning the solitary set for Holmar in straight games against Ashley Landes. Holmar made a brave effort in the doubles capturing the first game but then lost the next three. Maccabi E also had a good win beating Ramsbottom TT Academy B 10-0 at home. 12 year old Domonic Siddall took two of the Maccabi players to four games and they also lost in four in the doubles. Peter Canter, Bobby Lee and new signing Josh Huglin won their three for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Shawfield F lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich G.  Peter Helmn won two and Jason Wild added one for the home team. Bob Goodman continued his return to table tennis with three good wins for Prestwich, Ian Ross two, Scott Hill one and the doubles. Shawfield G lost 3-7 at home to BGSOB B who only arraived with two players. John Rowlands and John Greenhalgh each won three for the visitors and they won the doubles. ELPM D won 7-3 at home to Holmar D. Andy Caunce, Lawrence Paynter and Antony Vindice each won two for the home team and they won the doubles. Alan Fletcher won two for Holmar and just missed out on his treble when he lost at eight in the fifth against Paynter. David Bell added their other win.
