DIVISION ONE

Prestwich C drew at home to Carlton Club A to finish two points below their B team in their first season in the top division. Phil Myers was the unbeaten player on the night for Carlton, Ian Quinn and Kevin Chapman each added one. Eddie Simon won two for Prestwich, Lee Devenport and Peadar McKinstry each won one and they won the doubles. Little Lever overpowered St.Philips 9-1 at home where Brett Haslam won the solitary set for St.Philips when he beat Steve McNicholas. St.Philips finish bottom of the division with just one win this season.  Phil Riley and Ronnie Durose were the unbeaten players for Little Lever and they also won the doubles. Prestwich B lost 2-8 at home to BAE. Andy Evans and Dave Bolton each won one for Prestwich when they both beat Pete Bradford. Tom Lang and Tony Bates were unbeaten for BAE and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom Town A sealed their 13th consecutive division one title and 19 in total with a whitewash of second placed Radcliffe 10-0 at home. Mark Ramsbottom, Mick Moir who hasn’t lost a match all season in the Bury or Bolton League and Andy Jackson who took the top ten title for the first time having tied with Mick Moir last season and lost the play off were the three winning players.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich D lost 3-7 at home to divisional winners Maccabi A. Louis Rosenthal was the unbeaten player for Maccabi. Joe Redikin for Prestwich had a fine win over Stuart Landes who won two for Maccabi and Mohammed Sagied for Prestwich beat Dean Clyne who also won two for Maccabi. Mohammed lost at eight in the fifth to Stuart but Joe and Steve Hathaway paired up for the doubles and had a fine win over Louis and Dean. The battle for the second promotion spot was decided when Seedfield A beat S.P.Carlton 6-4 away. Seedfield finished second and S.P.Carlton third. David Poytress of Seedfield also clinched the top ten by winning his three, losing just five sets all season and was five wins ahead of Dean Clyne in second spot. Peter Mears added two wins for Seedfield, losing at three in the forth to Dave Holden. Seedfield won the doubles at eight in the fourth. Dave Holden won two for S.P.Carlton, John Biggins beat Julian Nuttall at thirteen in the fifth for his one win and Tommy Ryan also won one when beat Julian at six in the fifth. Elton Vale Sports Club A lost 3-7 at home to ELPM A. John Dawes won his three for the visitors including a twelve ten win in the fourth over Graham Daniels. Ian Cockcroft and Paul Cater each added two wins for the visitors. Graham had to go to the fifth game in his opening set against Ian eventually winning eleven four. His second win was at twelve in the fourth against Paul. Elton also won the doubles comfortably in three straight. Polish Catholic Club beat Prestwich E 6-4 at home and despite three wins from Mohammed Sagied for Prestwich he finished on the losing side. Prestwich hope that Carlton Vale doesn’t get a draw or better in their final match against Carlton Club B otherwise Prestwich will fill the second relegation spot. Only Barrie Fleet could add one win to the Prestwich tally. Ian Byrne and Liaqat Ali each won two for Polish, Eddie Kalinowski one and they won the doubles. Carlton Vale drew at home with Carlton Club B. Chris Sutcliffe won his three for the home side and Dave Jackson won two. Mark Reading won two for the visitors, John Foster and Jim Bloomfield each added one and they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION THREE

Hilton YMCA beat Maccabi B 10-0 at home to finish seventeen points clear at the top of the division. After four weeks at the beginning of the season Hilton’s original players were replaced by the current squad of players and haven’t lost a match to ensure their promotion spot. Rob Bent, Jim Hewitt and Alan Cowley were the unbeaten Hilton players. ELPM B beat bottom placed team Seedfield C 7-3 at home. Carol Mitchell won three, Steve Greaves two, Gerry Faulkner one and they won the doubles. The two opening sets of the night both went to five. Steve Greaves beat Stephen Siddall at eight in the fifth then Carol Mitchel beat Phil Cooper at four in the fifth. Phil then won his other two sets. Stephen beat Gerry at four in the fourth. Shawfield B sealed their A teams relegation spot when they beat them 6-4 with Wayne Ellis winning his three for the B team and securing top spot in the top ten. Dave Stubbington added two and they won the doubles. Terry Shaw won two for the A team, Paul Nutter and Phil Herd each adding one. Maccabi C beat Carlton Club C 6-4 at home and Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi. Marc Sheldon and Sheldon Lee each added one and they won the doubles. Steve Evans and Keith Cheyne each won two for Carlton. Elton Vale Sports Club B beat Ramsbottom Town B 6-4 at home. David Hall was unbeaten for Elton, Keith Mills added two and they won the doubles. Martin Ormsby won two for Ramsbottom with Roger Whewell and Joe Walk each adding one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Holmar C lost 3-7 at home to Maccabi F and this result has left Holmar in one of the relegation spots. Alan Nesbit won his three for Maccabi, Dad Jack added two, Yoni Morrison won one and they won the doubles. Jack Berry won two for Holmar and Roy Steventon one. Prestwich F sealed their top spot in the division and promotion plus the top ten spot for Alistair Wakefield of Prestwich F who beat Maccabi E 8-2 away. Alistair Won his three, losing just five sets all season, Rod Hughes and Paul Rourke backed him up with two wins each plus they won the doubles at five in the fourth. Edward Freeman took Paul Rourke to five and just clinched the win at eight in the fifth for one win. Bobby Lee beat Rod Hughes at six in the fourth for their other win. Shawfield D beat their second placed C team 7-3. Andrew Webster won two for the C team, division five reserves Lauren Brassington added one but top of division five averages James Collier didn’t register a win. Barry Collier, Alistair McIver and Brian Philip each won two for the D team and they won the doubles. Maccabi D beat Holmar B 8-2 at home. Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi, Aubrey Huller and Buz Cohen each added two and they won the doubles. John Millington won the two sets for Holmar. Ramsbottom TT Academy A lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich G but despite this win Prestwich finish next to the bottom. Bob Goodman and Martin Ingram were unbeaten for Prestwich and Ian Connell was unable to start his first match and went home ill.

 

DIVISION FIVE

With only two players Bury Grammar School Old Boys managed a draw away to Seedfield D thanks to three wins from John Greenhalgh. John Rowlands added one win and they won the doubles at ten in the fourth. Steve Greenall and Andrew Wood each won two for Seedfield and Ian McKenzie one. Two junior teams met and it was Shawfield G who came out on top with a convincing 9-1 win at home to Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy B. Two sets went to five and both won by Shawfield. Dean Walmersley from Shawfield beat Dominic Siddall at nine in the fifth but lost to Daniel Allen for Ramsbottoms only set. The doubles were won by Shawfield at seven in the fifth. Holmar E beat Seedfield E 9-1 at home. John Heyes, Nigel Shaw and Graham Wardle were the unbeaten Holmar players and Seedfield won the doubles. Wardle Conservative Club beat juniors Maccabi G 7-3 away. David Watts led the way for Wardle with three customary wins and having only lost two sets all season, both to top ten leader James Collier of promoted team Shawfield E. Jack Gratton added two, Harry Barlow one and they won the doubles. Sam Ballin won two for Maccabi and Ashley Landes one. Scott Fleming of Shawfield F beat top ten winner James Collier for his one of two wins in his team’s 2-8 defeat at the hands of the divisional winners. James Collier won the top ten by just one win from David Watts. James and Lauren Brassington each won two for the E team but it was Peter Helmn who was unbeaten on the night. The E team also won the doubles.
