DIVISION ONE

Seedfield Methodists A lost 1-9 at home to St.Philips A and it was Peter Mears for the home team who secured their only win in three straight games against Dave Smith. David Poytress lost to Dave Smith at seven in the fifth. Peter Mears lost at two in the fifth against Dennis Collier. Ramsbottom C just edged the win at home with Carlton Club A. The match was poised at 4-4 when Dave Kay won his third set of the night for Ramsbottom beating Phil Myers in three straight. Martyn Wyatt then beat Ian Quinn at eight in the forth to win the match for Ramsbottom. Martin Wyatt won two for Ramsbottom and they won the doubles. Phil Myers won two for the visitors, Ian Quinn and Kevin Chapman each added one. Little Lever were trailing Radcliffe Cc 2-6 at home then added the last two sets to lose 4-6. Nigel Hallows was in good form for the visitors and won his three, Rob Hall added two and Mick Dore one. Phil Riley took Nigel Hallows close and only lost at seven in the fifth to win two on the night, Ronny Durose one and they added the doubles.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich C beat ELPM A 8-2 at home and it was Eddie Simon, who led the way for the home team with three wins, Peadar McKinstry and Steve Hathaway two wins each and they won the doubles. Only John Dawes could get on the score card for the visitors with two wins and a rare occasion for Andy McCheyne being without a win. Carlton Club B have picked up their form again this season after a bad year last year and won 6-4 at home to Seedfield B. Jim Bloomfield won his three for the home team, Stuart Carter two and Mark Reading one. Julian Nuttall won two for Seedfield, Andy Hamilton one and they won the doubles. St.Philips lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich E and it was Barrie Fleet who was unbeaten on the night for the visitors, fourth division reserve Richard Hinchcliffe had two great wins and Ken Crimes added one. Dave Holden won two for the home team, John Biggins one and they won the doubles. Despite having only two players promotion contenders Polish Catholic Club drew at home to Prestwich D. Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne each won two for the home side and they just won the doubles at five in the fifth to get the draw. Paul Howarth and Alex Waring each won two for the visitors and Steve Hathaway won the one.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield C drew at home to Elton Vale TTC. Frank and Alan Carse each won two and Peter Ingham, in his first set of the night had a fine win beating Graham Daniels at five in the fifth to inflict only his second defeat of the year. Martin Nicholls and Mark Craven each won one for the visitors and they won the doubles. The match was poised at five four in favour of the home team with one set to play. Graham Daniels just got the better of Frank Carse at eight in the fifth. Elton Vales Sports Club drew with Maccabi B who had reserve Marc Sheldon playing and was without a win on the night. It was left to regulars Melvyn Levene and Neil Fineberg who won two each and they won the crucial doubles to get the draw. Rodney Hall was in fine form for the home team with three wins, Frank Green and Keith Mills each adding one. Shawfield B beat Holmar A 6-4 at home and Wayne Ellis was unbeaten for the home team, Dave Stubbington added two and they won the vital doubles to secure the win. David Fletcher won two for the visitors, Phil Wardle and Ian McPherson one each. St.Sebastians are struggling near the bottom of the division after their promotion last season and just missed out on a draw to lose 4-6 at home to Seedfield D. Dave Hargreaves and Dave Stevens each won two for the home team. Ali McKernan and Alan Telfer each won two for the visitors, Phil Cooper one and they won the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Seedfield Methodists E lost 4-6 at home to BGSOB A where Barry Warburton and Andy Evans each won three for the visitors. Seedfield’s Ian McKenzie, Jonathan Fitton and Keith Stott each beat Tim Hope and they won the doubles. Seedfield had the chance of their first draw of the season when they trailed 4-5 but Barry Warburton for the visitors overcame Ian McKenzie for his third win on the night. Holmar B and C shared the points on the night. For the B team Jim Eardley and Martin Archer each won two and they won the doubles. Alan Hibbert had a bad night and failed to get on the score card. Ian Ferrari and Jim Millington each won two for the C team and Jack Berry added the vital one for the draw. Maccabi B lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich F though the match was poised at 4-4 before Prestwich won the last two sets and the match. For Maccabi Marc Sheldon won two, Aubrey Huller one and they won the doubles. Rod Hughes was in good form on the night winning his three, Alistair Wakefield two and Ian Connell one. Shawfield D lost 2-8 at home to Carlton Club C and it was Steve Evans and Keith Cheyne who did the damage with three wins each for the visitors, Clive Roberts added one and they also won the doubles. Andrew Webster and Andrew Ingham each won one for the home team. Maccabi C beat Shawfield E 10-0 at home. Robert Clayton, Frank Sheldon and Less Suss were unbeaten for the home team and they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Maccabi E maintained their good form this season to be a promotion contender with their third ‘maximum’ of the season at home to Shawfield G. Peter Canter, Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman each won their three and they won the doubles. Prestwich G is also up near the top of the division and their 9-1 win at home to Ramsbottom Academy B helped their cause. Bob Goodman and Ian Ross were unbeaten on the night for Prestwich with Scott Hill adding two and they won the doubles. David Headley had a fine win against Scott Ross in three straight. Fourteen year old twin girls Bethany and Olivia Wallis fought hard on the night for Ramsbottom and Olivia was the closest to a win when she lost 7-11, 21-14, 11-13 to Scott Hill. Holmar D drew at home with Seedfield F and it was home player David Bell who won his three, Alan Fletcher and Gerald Quemeneur one each. Four sets went to five and two more went to four in a hard fought match. Adam Simpson won two for the visitors, Dave Tarver and Steve Greenall one each and they picked up the doubles. Shawfield F beat Seedfield G 9-1 at home and it was Scot Fleming and Peter Helmn who each won their three, Jason Wild two and they won the doubles. Barry Simpson of Seedfield beat Jason Wild to register the visitor’s only win. BGSOB B won 7-3 at home to ELPM D. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh were unbeaten on the night for the home team and they won the doubles. Mario Piazza, Anthony Vindice and Lawrence Paynter each won one for the visitors. Wardle beat Holmar E 8-2 at home. Peter Ward was unbeaten for the home team, Jack Gratton and Neil Bamford each added two and they won the doubles. Only Nigel Shaw could get on the score card for Holmar registering two wins.
