Prestwich lost just one game in their 9-1 win. Andy Evans and Eddie Simon were unbeaten for Prestwich, Dave Bolton won two and they won the doubles. Julian Nuttall saved the white wash for Seedfield with his one win. Victory for the fourteen year in a row as Ramsbottom Town A; three years as Acrebottom but the same players in the team and six further years winning giving a total of twenty three times division one champions. They have won every year since 1992. An amazing achievement. Ramsbottom’s 9-1 win this week against Carlton Club a away also secured the top ten medal for Andy Jackson for the second year in a row. Team mate Mark Ramsbottom finished second, another great achievement considering he missed playing in five matches throughout the year. Andy and Mark were unbeaten. Ian Quinn for Carlton beat Graham Young for their sole win. Burning Desire needed a 6-4 or better to avoid the relegation spot and it wasn’t to be. Steve Barber and Fred Turpin each won two against Ramsbottom B at home for their four points. Though Carlton Club D lost their last match of the season they were secure in the knowledge that they had points in hand to secure their win of the division. An injured John Bostock bravely turned up to play for Carlton but had to concede his matches. His absence in the last two weeks ensured team mate Steve Evans won the top ten medal. Alan Meltzer was unbeaten on the night for the visitors, Robert Williams won two and Melvyn Levene one. Steve Evans won two, Keith Cheyne one and Carlton won the doubles. Maccabi C lost 4-6 at home to Ramsbottom Town C but all was not lost because Marc Sheldon’s two wins for Maccabi put him in second place in the top ten, four wins behind Steve Evans of Carlton. Brother Marc added one win as did Sheldon Lee. Martin Ormsby was unbeaten for Ramsbottom. Ian Wheeldon added two and they won the doubles. Shawfield A finished next to the bottom after their last match at home which they lost 3-7 to promoted team, in runner up position Prestwich G. A very creditable season considering they were only promoted from division four last season. Wayne Ellis won the three sets for Shawfield keeping him in seventh place in the averages table. Paul Rourke, Alistair Wakefield and Rod Hughes each won two for Prestwich and they won the doubles.

DIVISION FOUR

Maccabi D just fell four points short of promotion so they may ‘rue’ their 4-6 defeat at home to ELPM C. Debbie Wilson was in fine form for the visitors with three wins. John Edge added two including a close set against Aubrey Huller which he just won at six in the fifth. Harry Uren beat Frank Sheldon at six in the fifth for his one win. Stephen Siddall was unbeaten for Seedfield, Jonathan Fitton and Phil Cooper each won two and they won the doubles.

DIVISION FIVE

A ten nil win away at Seedfield E assured Bury Grammar School Old Boys B promotion and a win of the division by just one point. Graham Hilton, John Rowlands and John Greenhalgh were the unbeaten players. Only John Rowlands was troubled in his match against Andy Wood which he won at four in the fifth. Wardle B finished runners up and had they won just one more point to tie Bury Grammar they would have won the division because they had fewer match losses. David Watts won his customary three but the top ten was already secured last week by Dominic Siddall of Ramsbottom Academy. Jack Gratton won two. Adam Simpson won two for Seedfield, Ian McKenzie and Mike Ollerton one each.  Dominic Siddall made sure of his top ten medal by winning his three against Holmar D at home to leave him XXX points clear of David watts of Wardle A.
