Top of division one Ramsbottom Town A played Prestwich C from the same division and had to concede a seventy nine point start. Graham Hoy for Ramsbottom had an up and down set with Dave but eventually won by nine. With one to play Ramsbottom’s fate was sealed because they were still thirty two behind. Andy Evans made sure of the win when he took two points off Andy Jackson to put them into the final. An ‘ecard’ result so full match details not available. Shawfield E from division four proved too strong with their handicaps and had an easy victory over division three’s Elton Vale SC A. Shawfield finished on 574 to Elton Vale’s 507. James Collier, Peter Helmn and Scott Fleming made up the winning team and Frank Green, Keith Mills and Rodney Hall played for Elton Vale.

Seedfield B from division two faced Holmar C from division four so had a deficit of one hundred and seventy points to recover which they did by nine points and were only ahead after the last set of the night. The match finished with Seedfield on 491 points and Holmar C 482. Frank Carse for Seedfield B faced David Bell in the last set of the night and was twelve points behind. Frank proved too strong for David and won the set by twenty one points to put his team into the final. Seedfield were always in control and were winning all sets very comfortably. Mike Charlton for Seedfield had the closest match when he beat Trevor Candler by fourteen points. Trevor had a closer match with Ian Boyle and lost by just twelve points. Despite a large start for Holmar the handicapping proved ‘just right’ with such a close finishing result. In the other semi-final Holmar A from division three faced division two’s ELPM A and had the advantage of a sixty six point start at the beginning of the match. Holmar started well when David Fletcher beat Ian Cockcroft by nine points but Paul Carter for ELPM got eight of those back in the very next set when he beat Ian McPherson. Holmar won two of the next three sets then Paul Carter for ELPM had a very strong win against Phil Wardle beating him by twenty five points to reduce Holmars lead with three to go to just twenty nine points. ELPM reduced it further when Gill Marsden took sixteen points off Ian McPherson to reduce the deficit to thirteen with two to play. Phil Wardle bounced back from his earlier defeat to beat Ian Cockcroft by thirteen to leave Paul Carter twenty six behind when he faced David Fletcher in the last set of the night. Despite Paul winning the set by eleven it wasn’t enough and Holmar progressed to the final with a final score of 510 to ELPM’s 495.
MACDONALD CUP
Seedfield A faced Ramsbottom B at home and had a comfortable one hundred and fifty two points lead, as it turned out, because they won by one hundred and twenty three. Ramsbottom were always going to struggle because they had to play two players who had only played a couple of matches in the league so it was difficult to give accurate handicaps. Despite Ramsbottom winning five of the nine sets the other four wins for Seedfield were enough to keep them ahead. David Poytress lost the first set of the night for Seedfield by just one point against Liam Bedford. Julian Nuttall for Seedfield quickly made amends when he beat David Kaye by nine. Peter Mears for Seedfield then lost by seven points against Mike Nettleton. With three to play Seedfield still had a comfortable one hundred and twenty four point lead and managed to win two of the last three sets to put them into the final. At the time of uploading the match report the other semi-final result between Prestwich A and Little Lever had not been received.
POYTRESS CUP

Graham Daniels for Elton hit straight back in the next set by taking eight points off Dave Jackson. Elton also won the next set when Martin Nicholls beat Steve Morris by eleven points. So after three sets Carlton had increased their start by one point to forty three. Carlton steamed ahead taking the next two sets before Graham beat Steve by nineteen. With three to play Carlton had a comfortable forty four points lead. Dave Jackson took twenty five points off Martin to seal Elton’s fate and added a further fourteen when Steve Morris beat Jim Bollard. Carlton Club D started thirty eight points behind Maccabi C. Despite being one of the strongest teams in the division and two of Carlton’s team are at the top of the averages they only managed to win four of the nine sets. Steve Evens for Carlton played Daniel Sheldon and won by eight points. Keith Cheyne for Carlton then won by ten against Sheldon Lee. Then another healthy win of eleven by John Bostock against Marc Sheldon and narrowed the gap to just nine points so it was looking like Carlton were going to move ahead in the match very early on. This however was as close as they got. The next two sets were won by Maccabi to open the gap to thirty eight; the advantage they started with. Carlton won the next so with three to play their lead was twenty one. Really good wins for Maccabi in the last three sets to put them on a winning total of 491 against Carlton’s 424. Elton Vale B faced Shawfield A at home in the second semi. Shawfield started with a sixty four point advantage and managed to hold on to thirty of them to win by 536 points to Elton’s 506.

Seedfield C played Shawfield E at home and was starting the match one hundred and six points behind. Despite winning all nine sets they came up just five points short of winning so Shawfield E are in the final. With three to play Seedfield were forty four points behind so a win was still on the cards. Jonathan Fitton played a good set against Scott Fleming and won by seven. Ali McKernan had an even better set beating Lauren Brassington by twenty nine so left Seedfield just nine points behind. It was left to Stephen Siddall for Seedfield to play James Collier and he could only win by five so put Shawfield E into their second final having already won through to the Dwyer Cup final. In the second semi Holmar C played ELPM C at home and had a slender ten point advantage at the start of the match which they were able to extend to thirty by the end and won by 536 points to 506 for ELPM. ELPM came tantalisingly close to levelling the match at the half way stage when they trailed by just one point. David Bell for Holmar managed to take sixteen points off John Edge.
