Division 1

Prestwich A lost 1-9 to Little Lever and it was George Jones who prevented a ‘whitewash’ when he beat Steve McNicholas at nine in the forth. Ronnie Durose and Phil Riley were unbeaten for Little Lever.

St.Philips lost at home to Carlton Club A and Ian Quinn was the unbeaten player for Carlton. Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each added two. Dennis Collier and Clive Taylor each won one for the home team and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom A beat Prestwich B 8-2 at home to keep them top of the Division but Radcliffe has a match in hand. In his first outing in the League this season Bury Champion Mark Ramsbottom was unbeaten as was Andy Jackson and Graham Young added two. Andy Evans won one for Prestwich and they won the doubles. Burning Desire drew at home with BAE. Ben Armstrong and Steve Barber each won two and Andy Kaye added one. Tony Smith was unbeaten for BAE, Tom Lang won one and they won the doubles.

 

 

Division 2

Seedfield Methodists A drew with Elton Vale A but David Poytress just maintained his 100% record this season when he beat Graham Daniels at ten in the fifth. Julian Nuttall and Andy Hamilton each added one. Graham Daniels and reserve from their B team David Hall each won two and they won the doubles. Struggling promoted team from last year Holmar A had their first draw of the season at home with Prestwich E. Phil Wardle and Ian McPherson each won two for Holmar and they won the doubles. Barrie Fleet and Alex Waring each won two for Prestwich and they won the doubles. SP Carlton beat Polish Catholic Club 7-3 at home and it was Tommy Ryan who was the unbeaten player for the home team. Dave Holden added two, John Biggins one and they just took the doubles at ten in the fifth. Ian Byrne won two for Polish and Liquat Ali one. Prestwich D beat Carlton Vale 7-3 at home and it was left to reserve Ken Crimes to win his three for the home team, his first treble of the season! He was pushed in his last set of the night against Steve Morris but eventually won at one in the fifth. Steve Hathaway and Joe Redikin each added two. Dave Jackson and Paul Tatlock each won one for the visitors and they took the doubles which was a close set eventually winning at three in the fifth. Carlton Club B beat ELPM A 7-3 at home. Jim Bloomfield, Stuart Carter and Mark Reading each won two for Carlton and they won the doubles. John Dawes won two for ELPM and Gilliam Marsden added one.

 

 

Division 3

Carlton Club C drew with Seedfield B and Keith Cheyne was on top form for the home team with three wins. John Bostock added two. Alan Telfer won two for Seedfield, Peter Ingham and Ian Boyle each added one and they won the doubles. Seedfield C lost 2-8 to Elton Vale B and only Stephen Siddall could get on the score card for the home team with two wins. His second win of the night came at ten in the fifth against Keith Mills. Jim Bollard was unbeaten for the visitors, Keith Mills and John Dobb each adding two and they won the doubles. Terry Shaw of Shawfield A saved a whitewash at home to Ramsbottom Town B when he beat Tim Fields in the last set of the night. Terry lost the opening set of the night at four in the fifth. Paul Nutter was very close to a win when he lost at six in the fifth against Tim Fields. Tim won two for Ramsbottom, Martin Ormsby and Roger Whewell were unbeaten and they won the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Division 4

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat Holmar C 9-1 at home> Jack Berry added the solitary win for Holmar against Martyn Warburton. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans were the unbeaten players for the home team. Holmar B drew at home to Prestwich F. Paul Rourke won his three for Prestwich, Ian Ross and Ian Connell each adding one. Ian Ferrari just won his first set of the night at six in the fifth against Ian Ross. He then beat Ian Connell at eleven in the forth. John Millington and Trevor Candler each won one and they won the doubles. Prestwich G lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi D and more importantly to a team that comprised of two Septuagenarians’. Buz Cohen and Aubrey Huller of Maccabi showed the younger players a thing or two by each winning two as did the youngster of the team Sheldon Lee. Bob Goodman for Prestwich won two but lost to Aubrey and Ian Connell won one, beating Aubrey at ten in the fifth! Prestwich added the doubles at seven in the fifth. The junior team of Ramsbottom Town A lost 4-6 at home to Shawfield D but the match score could have been much worse when they lost the first four sets of the night. Five of the ten sets went to five, Shawfield winning four of them. Barry Collier was unbeaten on the night for Shawfield, Andrew Ingham won two and Brian Philip one. Callum Stott won two for the home team, Nick Kroll one and they won the doubles. Tom Warburton lost to Brian Philip at nine in the fifth and to Andrew Ingham at eleven in the fifth.

 

Division 5

Seedfield E lost 2-8 at home to Holmar D in a match where all sets were won in three straight games. Only Andy Wood could get on the score card for Seedfield with two wins. David Bell was unbeaten for Holmar, Alan Fletcher and Gary Bolton each adding two and they won the doubles. Holmar E beat the junior G team from Shawfield 10-0. John Heyes, Nigel Shaw and Graham Wardle were the unbeaten Holmar players. Shawfield E overwhelmed ELPM D by taking all the points on the night. James Collier, Peter Helmn and Lauren Brassington were the unbeaten Shawfield players and the win cements their top position in the Division. Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat the junior team from Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy B 7-3 at home. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh led the way for the home team with three wins each and Peter Metcalfe won one. Dominic Siddall and Ben Duffy each won one for Ramsbottom though Ben was very close for his second win just losing at six in the fifth to Graham. Ramsbottom took a very tight doubles at nine in the fifth. Wardle beat Seedfield D 8-2 at home. David Watts won three, Peter Ward and Jack Gratton each won two and they won the doubles. Ian McKenzie won two for Seedfield who only had two players. Junior team Maccabi G beat Shawfield F 9-1 at home. Sam Ballin and Ashley Landes were both unbeaten for Maccabi and Scott Fleming beat Adam Gillman at seventeen in the third to deprive Adam of his three wins.
