DIVISION ONE
Seedfield A lost 4-6 at home to Carlton Club A. Gary Newton led the way for Carlton with three wins including a very tight first set of the night against David Poytress. David was two games to one up but Gary pulled the set back to win the next two games eight and nine. Phil Myers and new signing Dave Buckley each won one and they won the doubles. Three of Seedfields four winning sets went the distance. Julian Nuttall beat Phil Myers at nine in the fifth and Dave Buckley at five in the fourth. David Poytress won the last set of the night at five in the fifth against Phil Myers. The potential ‘challenge’ against Ramsbottom A from the new Prestwich A team did not materialise. New signing Darryl Meredith didn’t play so it was left to Darren Lindley who alone won the two sets against Ramsbottom A as they lost 2-8 at home. The opening set of the night Darren beat Brian Clements at eight in the fourth. Darren also beat Andy Jackson in three straight. He was so close to his treble in the last set of the night against Mick Moir but just lost at nine in the fifth having held a five two lead then went ten five down before Mick closed out the match. In the previous set Brian Clements beat Ian McLean at nine in the fifth. Ramsbottom B drew at home with Prestwich B. Dave Kaye was unbeaten for the home side and Keith Jackson added two. Paul King won two for Prestwich Robert Belli and Colin Boardman one each and they won the doubles to get the draw. New signing this season Ronnie Pennington led the way for Burning Desire with three wins away at Little Lever. Steve Barber and Ben Armstrong each added one and they won the doubles. Ronnie Durose won two for Little Lever, Lee Devenport and new signing Dennis Collier each added one. Prestwich C lost 2-8 at home to Radcliffe CC. Andy Evans and reserve Steve Hathaway each won one for Prestwich both beating Mick Dore. Rob Hall and Jim Chadwick were the unbeaten Radcliffe players plus they won the doubles.
DIVISION TWO
Elton Vale’s home match was made all the easier when their opponents Carlton Vale turned up with only two players. Elton Vale won 9-1 and it was Dave Jackson who won the solitary set off Elton when he beat Mark Craven at six in the fourth. Steve Morris for Elton had a close match with Mark Craven but lost at three in the fifth and was the only set that went the distance. Coburg maintained their challenge for the top of the division with a 9-1 win at home against understrength Prestwich E team. Steve Hathaway for Prestwich beat Rob Bent for their sole win. Derek Watmough and Alan Cowley were unbeaten for Coburg. Prestwich D faired a lot better than their E team with an 8-2 win at home against ELPM A. Gabriel Wilding was unbeaten to keep him top of the averages. Bryan Beer and Peadar McKinstry were both beaten by Ian Cockcroft to give them two wins each and they won the doubles. Carlton Club B proved too strong for Seedfield B in their 10-0 win at home. Dave Scowcroft, Tommy Ryan and Division three reserve Steve Evans were the unbeaten home side. Only one set went the distance when Mike Charlton for Seedfield lost at two in the fifth against Steve Evans who came from two games to one behind to take the win. Carlton Club C lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich F. Jim Bloomfield won two for Carlton, Mark Reading one and they won the doubles. Mohammed Sagied was unbeaten for Prestwich, Alex Waring added two and new signing Robert lee one.
DIVISION THREE
ELPM B beat Shawfield B 6-4 at home. Carol Mitchell and Gerry Faulkner each won two for the home side, Steve Greaves added one and they won the doubles. Ashley Ingham won two for Shawfield, Peter Gregory one as did reserve Andrew Webster. Maccabi C beat Holmar A 7-3 at home. Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi, Marc Sheldon won two, Sheldon Lee one and they won the doubles. Phil Wardle, David Fletcher and Ian McPherson each won one for Holmar. Shawfield A lost 4-6 at home to Ramsbottom Town C. Wayne Ellis won two for the home side, Bob Mitchell one and they won the doubles. Martin Ormsby, Paul Wood and Ian Wheeldon each won two for Ramsbottom. Maccabi C beat Holmar A 7-3 at home. Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi, brother Mark won two, Sheldon Lee one and they won the doubles. Phil Wardle, David Fletcher and Ian McPherson each won one for Holmar.
DIVISION FOUR
Seedfield C comprehensively beat Holmar C 10-0 at home. Alistair McKernan, Phil Cooper and Stephen Siddall were the unbeaten Seedfield players. Stephen had a struggle against Trevor Candler and won at three in the fifth. Phil Cooper also struggled against Trevor and just won at eight in the fifth. Two other sets went to four and the rest were won three straight. Holmar B lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi E. With the match standing at five four in favour of Maccabi it was left to Alan Hibbert to taken on Buz Cohen to try to rescue a draw but it wasn’t to be when Buz prevailed at five in the fourth. Only one set went to five at that was won by Edward Freeman from Maccabi against Royston Steventon. Buz Cohen finished unbeaten on the night, Edward Freeman and Jack Nesbitt each added one and they won the doubles in three straight. John Millington won two for Holmar, Alan and Royston each adding one. Shawfield E drew at home against Maccabi D. James Collier and Peter Helmn each won two for the home side and Scott Fleming one. Father and son Jack and Alan Nesbitt each won two for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Shawfield C beat Prestwich H 8-2 at home and Paul Nutter for the home side broke Bob Goodman’s unbeaten record so far this season with three fine wins. It was a close set going to five games which Terry took at seven in the fifth. Terry Shaw and Phil Herd each added tow and they also won the doubles at two in the fourth. John Edge was on top form for ELPM C when he led the way to their 7-3 win at home to Shawfield D with three fine wins for himself. Harry Uren added two, Debbie Wilson one and they won the doubles. Andrew Ingham won two for the visitors and Brian Philip one in a match which saw seven of the ten sets go the distance.
DIVISION FIVE
.Seedfield E drew at home with Shawfield F and it was a last set win for Andy Wood for Seedfield against Jason Wild which got them the draw. Andy finished the night winning two as did Keith Stott and Seedfield won the doubles at ten in the third. New signing this season Mas Kham won his three for Shawfield, Jason and Jonny Thornycroft each added one. Holmar D lost 3-7 at home to Seedfield D. Adam Simpson was unbeaten for Seedfield, Steve Greenall won two, Mike Ollerton one and they won the doubles. John Heyes won two for the home side and Graham Wardle one. Bury Grammar School Old Boys B lost 4-6 at home to Wardle Conservative Club A. David Watts was unbeaten for Wardle though he had to go to nine in the fifth to beat John Greenhalgh. Jack Gratton for Wardle also went the distance against John and just won at five in the fifth. The doubles went the way of Wardle at seven in the fifth. Jack Gratton won two for Wardle as did Graham Hilton for the home side. John Greenhalgh and Tim Hope each won one; again for the home side. Junior side Ramsbottom Academy lost 3-7 at home to ELPM D but none of visitors could beat Dominic Siddall who was in fine form winning his three. Only Antony Vindice for ELPM could take a game of Dominic. Eleven year old Harry Bell for Ramsbottom managed to take a game off Mario Piazza in the opening set but the visitors experience showed through in the other sets. Twelve year old Adam Kensitt made up the team for the home side. Lawrence Paynter was the third ELPM player; each winning two plus the doubles at four in the third.
