DIVISION ONE
Little Lever beat Prestwich C 7-3 at home and Phil Riley was the unbeaten player for the home team, Ronnie Durose and Steve McNicholas each added two. Peadar McKinstry and Eddie Simon each won one for Prestwich and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom Town A beat Carlton Club A 10-0 at home. Mick Moir and Andy Jackson keep up their challenge for another top ten medal with their three wins each, Graham Young also won three and they won the doubles. Radcliffe Cricket Club drew with BAE at home. Tom Lang was unbeaten for the visitors and Tony Bates added two. Graham Jeffries won two for Radcliffe, Mick Dore and Rob Hall each added one and they won the doubles. Burning Desire beat Prestwich B 7-3 at home. Ben Armstrong won three for the home team; Andy Kaye and Steve barber each added two. Only Andy Evans could get on the scorecard for Prestwich with two wins and they won the doubles.
DIVISION TWO
Seedfield Methodists A beat Prestwich E 9-1 at home and only Barrie Fleet for the visitors got on the score card with a win at nine in the fifth against Julian Nuttall. David Poytress and Peter Mears were unbeaten but in Peter’s case all of his sets went to five. David’s last set of the night was a close fought one when he just won at eight in the fifth against Alex Waring. S.P.Carlton beat ELPM A 7-3 at home. Dave Holden and Tommy Ryan were unbeaten for the home side and they won the doubles. John Biggins failed to get on the score card but went close in his last set losing at four in the fifth to Paul Carter. John Dawes and Gillian Marsden each got the better of John for ELPM. Maccabi A beat Carlton Club B 7-3 at home. Dean Clyne and Stuart Landes were unbeaten for Maccabi and Alan Meltzer won the other set. Mark Reading and reserve Steve Evans each won one for Carlton plus they won the doubles. Holmar A lost 2-8 to Polish Catholic Club who had Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne as the unbeaten players on the night. Eddie Robakowski added one and they won the doubles. Ian McPherson and Phil Wardle each won one for Holmar. Carlton Vale drew at home to Elton Vale Sports Club A. Graham Daniels for the visitors was unbeaten though Dave Jackson took him to eight in the fifth. Martin Nichols won one; the first set of the night which he won at seven in the fifth against Chris Sutcliffe. Mark Craven added the other win. Chris Sutcliffe won two for Carlton as did Dave Jackson; his second win of the night at twelve in the fifth against Martin Nicholls. The doubles had a long opening game which Elton won twenty eighteen but Carlton hit back winning the next three.
DIVISION THREE
Seedfield C look destined to the forth division next season when they lost 0-10 at home to Maccabi B. Only the first set went to five when Phil Cooper of Seedfield lost at four in the fifth against Robert Clayton. Five other sets went to four and every one was won at seven by Maccabi. Melvyn Levene and Robert Williams were the other unbeaten Maccabi players. Carlton Club C beat Shawfield A 6-4 at home and this same result will be recorded for their first half of the season fixture which had to be abandoned at Shawfield because of a slippy floor. Steve Evans was unbeaten on the night for Carlton, John Bostock won two and Keith Cheyne one. Keith narrowly lost the opening set at eight in the fifth against Paul Nutter. The next set was also very tight when Steve Evans just beat Terry Shaw at seven in the fifth. Terry won two for Shawfield, Paul Nutter one and they had a tight doubles which they just won at seven in the fifth. Shawfield B beat Elton Vale Sports Club B 6-4 at home and Wayne Ellis led the way for the home team with three wins, Dave Stubbington added two and they won the doubles. Jim Bollard won two for Elton, Frank Green and Rod Hall one each. Maccabi C lost 2-8 at home to Seedfield B. Only one set went to five which Frank Sheldon won for Maccabi twelve ten against Ian Boyle. Maccabi’s other win was by Franks son Marc who also beat Ian Boyle in the opening set of the night. Mike Charlton and Alan Telfer were the unbeaten Seedfield players. They also won the doubles at six in the fourth. ELPM’s 9-1 win at home against Ramsbottom Town B kept them in promotion spot just two points ahead of Seedfield B. Steve Greaves and Carol Mitchell each won their three. Carol was taken all the way against Martin Ormsby and just won at ten in the fifth. Steve was also taken to five against Chris Leaves but he eventually won at six in the fifth. Gerry Faulkner added two and they won the doubles. Martin Ormsby won the only set for Ramsbottom when he beat Gerry Faulkner at seven in the fifth.
DIVISION FOUR
Bury Grammar School Old Boys lost 2-8 at home to divisional leaders Prestwich F. Paul Rourke and Alistair Wakefield each won their three for Prestwich, Rod Hughes added one and they won the doubles. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans each won one for Bury Grammar. Prestwich G lost 2-8 at home to Shawfield C. John Herman and Ian Ross beat Andrew Webster from Shawfield but Peter Gregory and Ashley Ingham were unbeaten for Shawfield. In a very close match at home Ramsbottom TT Academy A just got the better of Maccabi D. The match was four each when Ramsbottom won the last two sets for victory. Daniel Sheldon of Maccabi however was the unbeaten player on the night. His ‘dead bat’ confused all of the Ramsbottom players though Nick Kroll did manage to steel one game of Daniel but finished losing. The opening set of the night saw Nick Kroll beating Aubrey Huller at six in the fifth. The only other set to go to five on the night was Tom Warburton against Aubrey who just lost at eight in the fifth. Nick and Callum Stott each won two on the night, Tom Warburton one and they won the doubles. Shawfield D beat Holmar C 7-3 at home. Barry Collier, Alistair McIver and Brian Philip each won two and they won the doubles. Roy Steventon, Jack Berry and Gerald Quemeneur each won one.
DIVISION FIVE
Seedfield E came down with a bang this week after their first win in five years last week and couldn’t maintain that form when they lost 1-9 at home to junior team Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy B. In his first match in the Bury League 11 year old Harry Bell won his first set of the night when he beat John Duxbury in three straight games. Harrys second set went the way of Seedfield when Andy Wood won their only set. In his last set of the night Harry showed great determination when he came back from two games to one down and to beat Graham Wright at seven in the fifth. A great achievement at his age. Harry Has played competitively for the first time this season in the English Table Tennis Association Cadet League and has had some promising results. Dominic Siddall and Daniel Allen were the unbeaten Ramsbottom players. Holmar E beat a two man team of ELPM D 8-2 at home. John Heyes and graham Wardle were unbeaten for Holmar, Patrick Black added one and they won the doubles. Anthony Vindice and Mario Piazza each won one for ELPM. Shawfield F lost 4-6 at home to Holmar D but Scott Fleming was unbeaten for the home side and they also won the doubles. Alan Fletcher, Graham Bolton and David Bell each won two. Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat junior team Shawfield G 7-3 at home but only had two players. The John’s Greenhalgh and Rowlands each won three and paired up to win the doubles. James Aadahl, Dean Walmsley and Joshua Fallows were each credited a win for Bury Grammars missing player. Another junior team Maccabi G last 4-6 at home to Seedfield D. Mike Ollerton was the unbeaten Seedfield player, Steve Greenall won two and Ian McKenzie one. Yoni Finke, Joe Flacks and Adam Gilman each won one and they just won the doubles at nine in the fifth. The only other set which went to five was Yoni Finke losing to Steve Greenall at ten in the fifth. Wardle Conservative Club lost 3-7 to Shawfield E who are looking destined to the fourth division next season ably helped by James Collier who won his three for the visitors and maintains a two point advantage on the top ten. Lauren Brassington added two for Shawfield, Peter Helmn one and they won the doubles. David Watts won two for the home side and Jack Gratton one. A regular for Wardle, Harry Barlow won’t be playing for the rest of the season because he is having a knee replacement and everyone in the League wish him well and hope to see him next season.
