DIVISION ONE

The meeting of the top 2 at Radcliffe CC resulted in them inflicting a first defeat of the season on Ramsbottom A.  In a 6-4 win Nigel Hallows was the unbeaten player, along the way being the 1st player to win against Michael Moir.  Rob Hall won 2 with Graham Jeffries picking up 1.  Graham Young won 1 for Ramsbottom but Mark Ramsbottom unusually lost all 3.  Carlton A & Burning Desire fought out a tight draw, with Phil Myers winning 3 for Carlton.  Ian Quinn (Carlton) & Steve Barber (Burning Desire) both recorded 2 wins.  Prestwich A beat Seedfield A 7-3.  Colin Boardman was undefeated for Prestwich.  Both teams field a reserve & both Peader McKinstry (Prestwich) and Mike Charlton (Seedfield) won 1.  St Philips A and BAE drew with Tony Smith (BAE) winning his 3.  Two wins each for Denis Collier & Derek Watmough with one from Dave Smith were the winners for St Philips.  Ian Gerard’s win plus doubles success made up their 5. 

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich D had a resounding 9-1 victory against Stand with both Alex Waring & Craig Bradbury winning 3.  Stand’s consolation came from Dave Jackson over Steve Hathaway.  The all Prestwich match went to form with the B team beating the E team 9-1.  Barrie Fleet picked up the win for the E team beating Andy Evans in 4 games.  Dave Bolton & Bryan Beer picked up trebles.  ELPM A had a good 8-2 win over Carlton A with John Dawes & Andy McCheyne winning 3.  Carol Mitchell had a fine win against Mark Reading.  John Foster & Stuart Carter each won 1 for Carlton.  Mick Hill & Eddie Kalinowski each won 2 for Polish Catholic Club but could not stop St Philips B winning 6-4.  Three wins for Gareth Palmer with one each for Ian Wheeldon & Dave Holden, plus a doubles win saw St Philips home.  Alan Meltzer won 2 to add to Stuart Landis’ treble and then together won the doubles to see Maccabi A to their 2nd victory of the season beating Seedfield B 6-4.  Andy Hamilton picked up 2 for Seedfield.  

 

DIVISION THREE

Elton Vale TTC moved 17 points clear at the top of the division following a 6-4 win over Maccabi B.  Neil Fineberg (Maccabi) won his 3 including victory over Top Ten Leader Graham Daniels.  Holmar A beat fellow promotion rivals ELPM B by a 6-4 margin.  Dave Fletcher was unbeaten for Holmar with teammate Phil Wardle adding 2.  The remaining 4 players each won 1.  Shawfield B had a good 7-3 win against Elton Vale SC with Top Ten contender Wayne Ellis winning his 3.  Two wins for Dave Stubbington & 1 from Ernie Watkins plus doubles completed their sets.  For Elton, Dave Hall won 2 and Keith Mills won1, but Rodney Hall failed for the 1st time this season to record a win.  Shawfield A travelled to Seedfield D and came away with an 8-2 victory.  In an all round team performance Terry Shaw was unbeaten but well supported by 2 each from Phil Herd & Paul Nutter.  Alan Telfer picked up 2 for Seedfield. 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Ramsbottom D ended Carlton C’s unbeaten run with an 8-2 win.  Roger Whewell took all 3 with both Martin Ormsby & Chris Leaves contributing 2.  For Carlton, Steve Evans & Clive Roberts picked up solitary wins.  Peter Gregory & Ashley Ingham each won 3 for Shawfield, with Ian Ferrari beating Roger Snowden to record Holmar’s solitary win.  Top Ten Leader Barry Warburton won 3 for BGSOB A, with a win for Andy Evans plus doubles success seeing them to a draw with Prestwich F.  Rod Hughes & Alistair Wakefield each won 2 for Prestwich.  Shawfield C took advantage of Carlton’s defeat to move within 4 points following a 9-1 success against Holmar C.  Shawfield D and Maccabi D drew 5-5.  Sheldon Lee with 3 and Marc Sheldon with 2 picked up Maccabi’s wins.  For Shawfield, Barry Collier won 2 with 1 each for Andrew Ingham & Alistdair McIver with doubles success securing the draw.  Jim Eardley continued his fine form for Holmar B, winning 3, helping them to an 8-2 win over Shawfield E.  Lauren Brassington won 2 for Shawfield beating both Martin Archer & Alan Hibbert.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Maccabi E strengthened their hold on top spot with a 9-1 win against Holmar D for whom Alan Fletcher recorded their solitary win beating Bobby Lee.  Peter Canter & Louis Samuels bith won 3 for Maccabi.  Shawfield F won 6-4 against Holmar E despite 3 wins from Nigel Shaw.  Jason Wild & Scott Fleming both won 2 with 1 from Peter Helmn for Shawfield.  John Heyes picked 1 for Holmar.  ELPM D saw the challenge of Shawfield G with an 8-2 win.  Anthony Vindice & Lawrence Paynter were unbeaten for ELPM with Shawfield’s sole singles success being Joshua Fallows win against Andy Caunce.  Ian Ross won 3 for Prestwich G but in the absence of Bob Goodman, Wardle took advantage to run out 7-3 winners.  Both the remaining 2 matches ended with 10-0 scorelines.  Victories for Seedfield F & Maccabi F over Ramsbottom Academy B & Seedfield G respectively.
