Division 1

In to the last two weeks of the season for this division and Seedfield A are fixed at the foot of the table in one of the relegation places. Their home match this week did not help matters when they lost 4-6 to Prestwich A. David Poytress won two for the home side and Peter Mears one and was closed to his second win when he lost at ten in the fifth to Andy Evans. Seedfield added the doubles which they won at six in the fifth. Colin Boardman, Dave Cheetham and Andy Evans each won two for the visitors. Ramsbottom Town A showed why they are top of the division when they beat their nearest rivals Radcliffe CC 9-1 at home. The only set won by Radcliffe was when Wayne Renton beat Andy Jackson at five in the forth. Mick Moir and Mark Ramsbottom were unbeaten for Ramsbottom plus they added the doubles. Adelphi lost to Ramsbottom C 4-6. Brett Halsam won two for the home team with Tommy Ryan and Lee Devenport adding one each. Dave Kay and Martin Myatt each won two for the visitors, Matthew Fields one and they won the doubles. Burning Desire drew at home to Carlton Club and Steve Barber for the home team led the way with three wins. Ben Armstrong and Andy Kaye each added one. Ian Quinn and Phil Myers each won two for Carlton and they won the doubles.

 

Division 2

Maccabi A had to field three reserves and lost 2-8 at home to Seedfield B. Division four player Buz Cohen has a straight games win over Seedfield reserve Phil Cooper. Aubrey Huller also from Maccabi’s division four team beat Andy Hamilton at thirteen in the forth. Julian Nuttall was unbeaten for Seedfield though his last set of the night against Melvyn Leven was only won at nine in the fifth. Prestwich E lost to their B team 2-8 and it was Andy Evans and Dave Bolton who were unbeaten on the night for the B. But they were made to play for their wins. Andy Evans only won at eight in the fifth against Keith Butler. Barrie Fleet only lost at five in the fifth to Andy Evans and Barrie again went to five against Dave Bolton and just lost at eight in the fifth. Keith Butler for the E team did get the better of Bryan Beer and won comfortably in three. The E team also added the doubles. St.Philips B drew with Polish Catholic Club where Eddie Kalinowski was unbeaten for the visitors. Ian Byrne added two to the Polish score line. Gareth Palmer won two for St.Philips, Dave Holden and John Biggins each added one plus the doubles. Carlton Club B lost 4-6 at home to ELPM A despite Mark Reading winning his three for the home team. Jim Bloomfield added their other win. John Dawes won two for the visitors, Carol Mitchell and Paul Carter each added one and they won the doubles. Stand had a fine 7-3 win at home to Prestwich D where Chris Sutcliffe and Dave Jackson were unbeaten for the home team. The only set which went to five was when Dave Jackson beat Steve Hathaway at eight in the fifth. With Steve, Alex Waring and reserve Alistair Wakefield each won one. Stand won the doubles.

 

Division 3

ELPM C is another team that is set at the foot of the table in relegation spot. They lost their match this week at home to Seedfield C 2-8.Mike Charlton won his three which included a tight set against Gill Marsden which he won at seven in the fifth. Alan Carse also won three, Peter Ingham one and they also won the doubles. Gill Marsden and Harry Uren each won one for the visitors. Elton Vale SC beat Shawfield B 6-4 at home but it was the Shawfield player, Wayne Ellis who was unbeaten on the night including a last set at fourteen in the fifth against Dave Hall. They also grabbed the doubles at ten in the fifth. Dave Hall, John Dodd and Jim Bollard each won two for the home side. ELPM B with only one regular player beat Holmar A 6-4 at home. Regular Mark Willmore won his customary three and Gerry Faulkner added two including a nine in the fifth game against Phil Wardle. ELPM A also the won the doubles. Ian McPherson won two for the visitors, Phil Wardle and reserve Ian Ferrari one each. St.Sebastians beat Hilton YMCA 7-3 at home which puts Hilton in a relegation spot with a match in hand. Mark Stevens was unbeaten on the night for the home team, Dave Hargreaves won two, Alan Scholes one and they won the doubles. Len Walker, Barry Walsh and Jean Smart each won one for the visitors.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Division 4

Seedfield E lost 0-10 at home to top team Maccabi C who look destined to division three next season whilst their opponents are heading to division five. Robert Clayton, Frank and Marc Sheldon were the unbeaten Maccabi players. Holmar B beat Shawfield E 7-3 at home and it was Jim Eardley for the home team who was unbeaten. His first set of the night was very close against Brian Philip and he won that at nine in the fifth. Martin Archer won two, Alan Hibbert one and they added the doubles. Brian Philip, Lauren Brassington and Eric Holmes each won one for the visitors. Maccabi D beat Shawfield D 6-4 at home and Buz Cohen led the way with three wins, Marc Sheldon added two and Aubrey Huller one. Barry Collier won two for the visitors, Andrew Ingham one and they won the doubles at six in the fifth. Shawfield C beat Holmar C 9-1 at home and it was Jack Berry for the visitors who won the only set against Andrew Webster. Ashley Ingham and Roger Snowden were unbeaten on the night for the home team plus they won the doubles. Prestwich F drew with Bury Grammar School Old Boys A. Alistair Wakefield was unbeaten on the night for the home team, division five reserve John Herman won one and they added the doubles. Barry and Martyn Warburton each won tw for the visitors and Andy Evans one. Ramsbottom Town D inflicted only their third defeat of the season on promotion contenders Carlton Club C. Roger Whewell led the way for Ramsbottom with three wins, Martin Ormsby and Chris Leaves each added one and they won the doubles. Steve Evans for the visitors won tow, John Bostock and Clive Roberts one each

 

Division 5

Seedfield G lost 0-10 to promotion hopes Maccabi F. Ashley Landes, Yonni Morrison and Jack Nesbit were the unbeaten players for Maccabi. Shawfield F beat Holmar E 10-0 at home and it was Jason Wild, Peter Helmn and Scott Fleming who were the unbeaten players. Prestwich G was only able to draw at home to Wardle and that result may put them behind in the promotion race. Bob Goodman won his customary three and Ian Ross added two. David Watts won two for Wardle, Harry Barlow and Jack Gratton one and they added the doubles. Holmar D lost 2-8 to top of the division Maccabi E. Peter Canter was unbeaten for the visitors, Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman each added two and they won the doubles. Alan Fletcher won the two for the home team. Bury Grammar School Old Boys lost 4-6 at home to promotion contenders Ramsbottom TT Academy A. Callum Stott was unbeaten for the visitors, Nick Kroll won two, Tom Warburton lost all his three for the first time this season but they added the doubles for the win. Four sets went to five and all four were won by the visitors. John Rowlands won two for the home team, Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh one each. Ramsbottom TT Academy B lost 4-6 at home to Seedfield F which was a big improvement on their 0-10 defeat in the first half of the season. Mike Ollerton won his three for the visitors, Steve Greenall two including at twelve in the fifth win against Daniel Allen and they won the doubles. Olivia Wallis won two for the home team, Daniel Allen and Domonic Siddall one each.
