DIVISION ONE

Burning Desire turned out a very strong side against home team Seedfield A. New signings Barry Elliott and Bill Russell contributed to a 9-1 win for the visitors. Ben Armstrong won two and they won the doubles. In the first set of the night David Poytress was close to beating Ben Armstrong and lost at five in the fifth. Rob Carter secured Seedfields sole win when he beat Ben Armstrong at nine in the fifth. The doubles were also a close affair with the visitors just sneaking a win at ten in the fifth. Carlton A beat St.Philips A at home 7-3 with Ian Quinn, Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each winning two for the home team and they added the doubles. Dennis Collier won two for the visitors and Derek Watmough one. BAE played their first away fixture of the season and lost 3-7 to Ramsbottom C. Martin Wyatt was on good form and won his three for Ramsbottom though his first win of the night only came at seven in the fifth against Gordon Beattie. Dave Kay won two for the home team and an even closer match against Ian Gerrard and won at thirteen in the fifth. Noel Duffy added one for the home team and they won the doubles. Tom Lang won two for the visitors and Gordon Beattie one. Adelphi had a close match with established division one team Little Lever and just lost 4-6 at home. Lee Devenport with two wins on the night came from two games down to beat Phil Riley 12-10 in the fifth, Tommy Ryan added one and they won the doubles. Ronnie Durose won three for the visitors, Phil Riley two and new signing Mark Hanson one. Prestwich A lost 0-10 at home against Ramsbottom A. Colin Boardman came the closest to a set win when he took Mark Ramsbottom to a fifth game and just losing 10-12. Mick Moir, Andy Jackson and Mark Ramsbottom each won their three for the visitors and the doubles.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich D met their B team and lost 3-7 however it was a far closer match than the results shows. Six sets went to five games and Paul Howarth was the only player to get on the score card for the D team with two wins and they won the doubles. Dave Bolton was on the best form on the night and won three for the B team, Andy Evans and Bryan Beer each added two. ELPM A drew with Seedfield B. Eddie Darlington and John Dawes each won two for the home side and they added the doubles. Julian Nuttall had three fine wins for Seedfield, Andy Hamilton and reserve Mike Charlton each added one. St.Philips B drew 5-5 with Carlton Club B but the match score swung from one team to the other throughout the night. St.Philips led 2-1 before losing the next three to go 2-4 down then won the next three to lead 5-4. The last set of the night went to John Foster of Carlton who beat Ian Wheeldon in three tight games. Dave Holden was on good form for the home team winning his three with John Biggins adding two. Jim Bloomfield won two for the visitors, John Foster and Mark Reading one each and they won the doubles at five in the fifth.

 

DIVISION THREE

Frank Carse was on top form for Seedfield C when he won his three at home against ELPM B to take the match 7-3. His three included a fine win over Mark Willmore at four in the fifth. Franks first set of the night against Paul Carter was close and he won at six in the fifth. Peter Ingham of Seedfield had two wins on the night beating Gerry Faulkner of ELPM at seven in the fifth and Paul Carter at nine in the fifth. Mike Charlton of Seedfield won the other two sets but they dropped the doubles with ELPM winning in straight sets. Mark Willmore was the only winner for ELPM with two wins. Holmar A lost 3-7 at home to Elton Vale TT Club. Graham Daniels was on top form for the visitors winning his three and remaining unbeaten so far this season. Martin Nichols added two, Mark Craven one and the doubles. David Fletcher won two for the home team and Phil Wardle one. Elton Vale Sports Club beat promoted team St. Sebastians 8-2 with only Dave Hargreaves, last years division four top ten winner opening his season with two wins. Dave Hall won three for the home team, Keith Mills and Jim Bollard two each and they won the doubles. ELPM C drew at home to Shawfield A. Terry Shaw won three for the visitors with Phil Herd adding one which he won at seven in the fifth against John Barker. Shawfield also won the doubles. John Edge won two for the home side including a 12-10 in the fifth set against Phil Herd. Gill Marsden won two as well and John Barker won one. Hilton YMCA beat Seedfield D 7-3 at home with Chris Naylor and Alan Cowley both winning their three and they won the doubles. Ali McKernan, Alan Telfer and Phil Cooper of Seedfield all beat Barry Walsh who failed to get on the score card.

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Newly promoted Ramsbottom D had a convincing win  8-2 away to Seedfield E. Jonathan Fitton beat Roy Steventon of Ramsbottom in straight sets and Keith Stott also beat Steventon at six in the fifth. Three wins each for new signings Roger Whewell and Chris Leaves for the visitors and they won the doubles at four in the fifth. Carlton C narrowly beat BGSOB A 6-4 at home. Keith Cheyne was on good form winning his three, John Bostock two and they won the doubles. Barry Warburton won two for the visitors, Martyn Warburton and reserve John Greenhalgh won one each. Maccabi D drew at home to Holmar D however the result could have been different for Holmar as Martin Archer failed to get on the score card and had to concede his last set on the night because of an injury. Jim Eardley was on the best form on the night with three wins and Alan Hibbert added two for Holmar. Marc Sheldon won two for Maccabi including a tight11-8 in the fifth win against Alan Hibbert. Louis Samuels lost the last set of the night at nine in the fifth against Alan Hibbert which secured the draw for Holmar. Marc Sheldon had two wins for the home team, Aubrey Huller and Louis Samuels added one each plus the doubles. Maccabi C had a 9-1 win at home against Shawfield C. Only Peter Gregory could get on the score card for Shawfield in the last set of the night against Stuart Simpson. Frank Sheldon and Louis Suss each won three for Maccabi, Stuart Simpson two and they added the doubles. Shawfield D lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich F where Richard Hinchcliffe for the visitors won his three, Alistair Wakefield two, Ian Connell one and they won the doubles. Andrew Webster won two for the home side and Alisdair McIver one.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Maccabi E have started their season in excellent form by only dropping two sets in three matches. Their 10-0 home win against Seedfield G saw Peter Canter, Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman winning their three and they won the doubles. Shawfield G lost 2-8 at home to Maccabi F. Only Sam Burgoyne and James Aadahl won one each for the home side. Alan Nesbit and Yoni Morrison each won three for the visitors, Ashley Landes one and they won the doubles. Holmar E lost 2-8 at home to Seedfield F where Nigel Shaw was the only home player to win when he beat Steve Greenall. Mike Ollerton and Adam Simpson each won three for the visitors, Steve Greenall two but Holmar won the doubles. Holmar D won 7-3 at home to Shawfield F and reserve Graham Wardle had three wins for the home team, Alan Fletcher two, Gerald Quemeneur one and the doubles. Jason Wild Peter Helmin and Scott Fleming each won one for the visitors. Wardle over whelmed Ramsbottom Academy B and beat them 10-0 at home. Dave Watts, Peter Ward and Harry Barlow all won their three for the home team and the doubles. BGSOB B drew at home to Prestwich G. Bob Goodman won three for the visitors, Martin Ingram one and they won the doubles. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh each won two for the home team and John Rowlands one.
