DIVISION ONE

Little Lever beat Prestwich A 7-3 at home. Phil Riley won his three, Steve McNicholas and Ronnie Durose each won two. Duncan Hadfield was the only Prestwich player to get on the score card with two wins plus they won the doubles. Prestwich C lost 1-9 at home to Radcliffe Cricket Club and the consolation one set was won by Peadar McKinstry when he beat Rob Hall. Mick Dore and Nigel Hallows each won their three and won the doubles. Prestwich B lost 2-8 at home and it was Andy Evans and Dave Bolton for Prestwich that got the better of Graham Young. Andy Jackson won his three to keep his lead in the top ten. Brian Clements in only his second outing this season in Bury also won his three and they won the doubles. Carlton Club A beat St.Philips 7-3 home but none of the Carlton players could get the better of on form Dennis Collier of St.Philips who won his three. Phil Myers, Gary Newton and Kevin Chapman each won their three for Carlton plus they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION TWO

In a battle to avoid relegation the bottom two teams Prestwich E and Holmar fought it out and it was Prestwich who just sneaked the win 6-4 at home. Barry Fleet and Mohamed Sagied each won two for Prestwich, Alex Waring one and they won the vital doubles. Phil Wardle and David Fletcher each won two and the result keeps Holmar at the foot of the division in clear relegation spot. ELPM A has no such worries being comfortably in the middle of the table and their 7-3 beating of Carlton Club B at home helped their cause. John Dawes, Ian Cockcroft and Paul Carter each won two for ELPM plus they won the doubles. Carlton Vale beat Prestwich D 6-4 at home and Chris Sutcliffe led the way for the visitors being unbeaten, Dave Jackson added two and they won the doubles. Mohammed Sagied won two for Prestwich, Keith Butler and Steve Hathaway added one each. Elton Vale Sports Club A lost 4-6 at home to promotion contenders Seedfield Methodists A but Graham Daniels from the home team beat top ten contender David Poytress in a very tight five games and eventually winning at eight in the fifth. Martin Nichols beat Peter Mears in another tight five games eventually crossing the line at seven in the fifth for their only other win. Seedfield had no problems winning the doubles in three straight games. Dave Poytress and Andy Hamilton each won two for Seedfield. Polish Catholic Club drew at home to SP Carlton and Ian Byrne was in unstoppable form beating one of the top ten contenders Tommy Ryan in his three valuable wins for the home team. Eddie Kalinowski won one and Polish took the doubles for a draw. Tommy Ryan and Dave Holden each won two for the visitors and John Biggins added one.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield B keep their chances of promotion alive after a narrow 6-4 win with mid table Carlton Club C and despite Steve Evans for Carlton being unbeaten. With two sets to go Seedfield let six two then Carlton rallied and won the last two sets. Keith Cheyne could only add one more win for Carlton when he beat Ian Boyle at eleven in the fourth. Steve then beat Mike Charlton at three in the fifth. Mike won two for Seedfield as did Alan Telfer and Ian Boyle won plus they won the doubles. Elton Vale Sports Club B trounced Seedfield C who are secured at the foot of the division without a win all season. Frank Green, Keith Mills and Jim Bollard did the damage for the home team with three wins each. Seedfield did succeed in the doubles which they won at nine in the fifth. Jonathan Fitton almost secured another point for Seedfield in the opening set of the night which he just lost at eight in the fifth against Frank Green. Shawfield B beat Maccabi C 7-3 at home. Wayne Ellis was unbeaten for Shawfield, Dave Stubbington added two, Ernie Watkins one and they won the doubles. Father Frank two sons Daniel and Marc represented Maccabi and it was the son, Marc winning two and Daniel winning one who on this occasion showed their Father the way because Frank came away with no wins. Ramsbottom Town B beat Shawfield A 7-3 at home. Martin Ormsby won his three for Ramsbottom, Joe Walk two, Roger Whewell one and they won the doubles in four close games especially the last fifteen thirteen. Only one set went the distance when Joe beat Paul Nutter at eight in the fifth. Terry Shaw won two for Shawfield and Phil Herd one. Hilton YMCA overwhelmed ELPM B when they beat them 9-1 at home and Steve Greaves for the visitors was the only player to get on the scorecard when he beat Jimmy Hewitt. Despite the one loss Jimmy has gone to the top of the averages and they cement their place firmly at the top of the division. The unbeaten Hilton players were Rob Bent and Alan Cowley.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Holmar C drew at home with Bury Grammar School Old Boys A but Barry Warburton won his customary three for the visitors and Martyn Warburton added one. Royston Steventon and Jack Berry each won two for Holmar and Neil Cowburn added one. Holmar are in the bottom three with just four matches remaining and need some good results to avoid relegation. Maccabi F lost 4-6 at home to Shawfield C. Alan Nesbit won two for the home team, Jack Nesbit and reserve from division five Sam Ballin each added one. Ashley Ingham was unbeaten for Shawfield, Roger Snowden and Andrew Webster each added one and they won the doubles. Maccabi D beat Prestwich G 6-4 at home to Prestwich G who are hovering close to relegation spot. The consolation for Prestwich came from Gabby Kaye who won her first set of the season when she comfortably beat Aubrey Huller at seven in the fourth in her first set of the night. Ian Connell added one and Bob Goodman won two; losing to Daniel Sheldon comfortably in three straight. Daniel was unbeaten on the night, Aubrey Huller and division five reserve Ashley Landes had the all-important match win against Gabby Kaye. Prestwich F beat Holmar B 7-3 at home to keep themselves well clear at the top of the division. Alistair Wakefield was unbeaten for Prestwich, Rod Hughes added two, Paul Rourke one and they won the doubles. Alan Hibbert won two for Holmar and Royston Stevenson one.  Shawfield D took on junior team Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy A and with two sets to play the juniors led five three looking as though they were going to win. Reserve Dominic Siddall from division five faced Alistair Ingham and made a spirited effort taking the third game at thirteen but he could not sustain his game and lost at two in the fourth. So it was left to Barry Collier from Shawfield to face Tom Warburton. Barry took the first two games six and six but Tom bounced back in style taking the next two at one and five. So a tense last set where Tom led in the early part of the game only to relinquish his lead and losing at nine in the fifth to give Shawfield a draw.  Tom had won his two previous sets and Callum Stott won all his three. Barry Collier won two, Alistair and Brian Philip each won one and they won the doubles at ten in the fourth.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Seedfield Methodists D lost 3-7 at home to Wardle Conservative Club. David Watts won his three for the visitors as did Jack Gratton plus they won the doubles. Ian McKenzie, Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall each won one for Seedfield.None of the sets went the distance but seven went to four so it wasn’t as one sided as the score suggested. Holmar D beat Seedfield E 10-0 at home and Alan Fletcher, David Bell and Gary Bolton were the unbeaten players on the night. Shawfield F lost 4-6 at home to junior team Maccabi G. Ashley Landes won his three for the second successive week, Sam Ballin added two and they won the doubles. Jason Wild won two for Shawfield, Scott Fleming and Graham Broomhead each added one. The second of three junior teams in this division unfortunately were on the losing side when Holmar beat them 0-10 at home. Only the first set of the night went the distance when John Heyes beat Michael Eaton at five in the fifth. Plenty of other close games but Shawfield just lost out in each set and it was Holmars experience that helped to get the score line. Nigel Shaw, John Heyes and Graham Wardle were the ‘experienced trio.’ The third junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy B were due to face Bury Grammar School Old Boys B at home but unfortunately the visitors were unable to get a team together. ELPM D lost 3-7 at home to division leaders Shawfield E. James Collier won his three for Shawfield to keep him top of the averages. Lauren Brassington won two for Shawfield, Peter Helmn one and the won the doubles. Anthony Vindice won two for ELPM and Lawrence Paynter one.
