DIVISION ONE

Radcliffe Cricket Club keep a firm grip on second place with an emphatic 10-0 win at home against Prestwich A. Rob Hall, Phil Biggs and Mick Dore were the unbeaten Radcliffe trio. St.Philips beat Prestwich B 8-2 at home and it was Dennis Collier and Brett Haslam who were unbeaten for the home team with Sean Toland adding one and they won the doubles. Andy Evans and Dave Bolton for Prestwich both beat Sean. BAE also won 8-2 at home against the Prestwich C team.. Tom Lang and Tony Bates were unbeaten for BAE, Ian Gerrard won one and they won the doubles. Peadar McKinstry and Eddie Simon of Prestwich both beat Ian. Burning Desire managed just one set of Divisional leaders Ramsbottom Town A when Steve Barber beat Keith Jackson. Andy Jackson and Mark Ramsbottom were unbeaten for Ramsbottom.

 

DIVISION TWO

Seedfield Methodists A beat Prestwich D 8-2 at home to keep their promotion hopes alive. They are four points ahead of S.P.Carlton but five behind Maccabi A, the leaders. David Poytress and Peter Mears were unbeaten, Andy Hamilton added one and they won the doubles, just at five in the fifth. Steve Hathaway beat Andy at six in the fifth. Division four reserve Alistair Wakefield had a fine win over Andy also at six in the fifth. Despite only having two players S.P. Carlton beat Holmar A 7-3 away and it was John Biggins and Dave Holden who were the unbeaten players. They also won the doubles. Leaders Maccabi A beat Carlton Vale 9-1 at home. Chris Sutcliffe had the only win for Carlton over Alan Meltzer. Dean Clyne and Stuart Landes were the unbeaten Maccabi players. Prestwich E beat Elton Vale A 6-4 at home but none of the Prestwich players could get the better of Graham Daniels for Elton who was unbeaten. Elton also took the doubles. Alex Waring, Barrie Fleet and Mohammed Sagied each won two for Prestwich. Despite only having two players Polish Catholic Club managed an away win to Carlton Club B. Ian Byrne was unbeaten for Polish, Eddie Kalinowski won two and they won the doubles. Jim Bloomfield won two for Carlton, Mark Reading and John Foster one each.

 

DIVISION THREE

An under strength Seedfield Methodists C lost 0-10 at home to Maccabi C. Adam Simpson and Ian McKenzie were the two reserves who both moved up two divisions and found the going tough. Adam took a game off another reserve, Alan Nesbit from division four but could not sustain the play and lost at two in the fourth. All remaining sets were won in three straight. Brothers Marc and Daniel Sheldon were the unbeaten Maccabi players, along with Alan. Carlton Club C drew at home with Shawfield B. John Bostock won his three for Carlton and Steve Evans added two. Wayne Ellis keeps in touch with a chance of taking the top ten but dropped a set against John. Wayne won two, Dave Stubbington and Ernie Watkins each won one and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom Town B beat Seedfield B 6-4 at home and the doubles tipped the win in favour of Ramsbottom when they just clinched it at nine in the fifth. A treble from Neil Booth for Ramsbottom with Martin Ormsby and Roger Whewell each winning one. Mike Charlton and Ian Boyle each won two for Seedfield which keeps them in the hunt for a promotion spot. Mike was taken to three in the fifth against Roger and nine in the fifth against Martin. Maccabi B beat Elton Vale B 8-2 at home. Robert Clayton and Robert Williams were unbeaten for Maccabi and Melvyne Levene added two. He lost his first set of the night at ten in the fourth against Jim Bollard who was the only Elton player to get on the score card. Elton took the doubles at ten in the fourth. Hilton YMCA are assured of promotion but their 6-4 win away with Shawfield A was four each with two sets to play. Mark Speakman of Hilton managed to beat Paul Nutter at ten in the fifth the Rob Bent for Hilton beat Terry Shaw at five in the fourth for his third win of the night. Mark added two; losing the opening set of the night in three straight against Terry Shaw. Terry won two for Shawfield, Paul Nutter and Phil Herd each added one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat junior team Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy A 6-4 at home. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans were unbeaten for Bury Grammar. Barry’s three wins gives him a chance still for the top ten medal. Callum Stott, Nick Kroll and Tom Warburton all beat reserve Peter Metcalfe and they won the doubles. Prestwich F are well clear at the head of the division and their 10-0 win at home this week helped to keep Alistair Wakefield a one win lead in the race for the top ten medal. Paul Rourke and Rod Hughes were the other unbeaten Prestwich players. By contrast Holmar C are in a precarious position near the foot of the table and even a win next week might not be enough to keep them in the division. Prestwich G faced relegation opponents Shawfield D and lost 4-6 at home which puts them two points behind Shawfield with one match to play. Bob Goodman won his customary three for Prestwich but it wasn’t enough for his team because only Ian Connell could add to the wins tally with one over Andrew Ingham at three in the fifth. Barry Collier and Alisdair McIver each won two for Shawfield, Andrew Ingham one and they won the doubles in three straight to secure the win on the night. Maccabi F faced their D team and lost 4-6. Sheldon Lee was the unbeaten player on the night for the D team; Aubrey Huller won two including a convincing opening set against Daniel Sheldon at eight, three and five. Buz Cohen added one win against Jack Nesbit at twelve in the fourth to deprive Jack of any wins on the night. Yoni Morrison won two for the F team including beating Buz Cohen at one in the fifth. Daniel Sheldon beat Buz Cohen three straight. Shawfiled C beat Maccabi E 8-2 at home. Peter Gregory was the unbeaten player for Shawfield, Roger Snowden and Andrew Webster each won two and they won the doubles. Daniel Sheldon and Edward Freeman each won one for Maccabi.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Shawfield E showed their junior G team why they are top of the division and certain of promotion when they won 9-1. Joshua Fallows for the juniors beat Lauren Brassington. James Collier and Peter Helmn were the unbeaten players on the night. Seedfield E lost 1-9 to another junior team; Maccabi G. Andy Wood won the sole set for Seedfield when he beat Adam Gillman at eleven in the fifth. Sam Ballin won his third of the night at six in the fifth against Andy Wood. Ashley Landes was the other unbeaten Maccabi player. Played earlier in the season Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat Holmar E 9-1 at home. Nigel Shaw won the only set for Holmar when he beat John Rowlands at six in the fourth. Graham Hilton just beat John Heyes at eight in the fifth in his first of three wins on the night. John Greenhalgh for Bury Grammar also had to go the distance with Nigel Shaw and just won at seven in the fifth in his middle of three wins. ELPM D beat Seedfield D 8-2 at home. Anthony Vindice and Lawrence Paynter were unbeaten for ELPM, Mario Piazza won one and they just won the doubles at eight in the fifth. 8 year old Amir Hussain of Ramsbottom TT Academy B won his three against Holmar D which includes one of the oldest players in the League, Alan Fletcher. Ramsbottom lost 3-7 on the night but there were plenty of very close games.  Amir was too fast for all of the Holmar players though he had to come back from two games to nil against Alan and eventually won at eight in the fifth. A tremendous effort by both players. Dominic Siddall came so close in his opening match against Alan and lost at seven in the fifth. Nigel Shaw and Gary Bolton were the other Holmar players. Wardle Conservative Club welcomed Harry Barlow back after a successful knee operation and managed add one win to David Watts three. They paired up for the doubles as well which they won to draw the match. Unfortunately they only had two players on the night. Scott Fleming and Jason Wild each won two for Shawfield and Graham Broomhead one.
