DIVISION ONE

Little Lever beat Prestwich C 7-3 at home and Ronnie Durose opened his season with three wins for the home side. Steve McNicholas and Lee Devenport each added two. Only Dave Bolton could get on the score card for Prestwich with two wins plus they won the doubles. Carlton Club drew at home with Prestwich A when a win looked on the cards as they led five three with two sets to play. Ian McLean for Prestwich beat Phil Myers at eight in the fourth. Duncan Hadfield again for Prestwich narrowly beat Ian Quinn at eight in the fifth for Prestwich to snatch the draw. Ian Quinn had a marathon opening set against Ian McLean which he won seventeen fifteen in the fifth. In all five sets went the distance. Ian Quinn and Gary Newton each won two for Carlton and Phil Myers one. Duncan Hadfield and Ian McLean each won two for Prestwich.  Prestwich B beat Seedfield A 9-1. David Poytress won the only set for Seedfield when he beat Rob Belli at four in the fourth. Colin Boardman and David Pegg were the unbeaten Prestwich players. Burning Desire lost 2-8 at home to BAE. The two Tony’s Bates and Vaughan were unbeaten for BAE, Ian Gerrard added one and they won the doubles. Ben Armstrong and Andy Kaye each won one for the home side. Radcliffe beat Ramsbottom Town 8-2at home. Mick Dore was unbeaten for the home side. Jim Chadwick and Rob Hall each won two and they won the doubles. Martin Whyatt won the two sets for Ramsbottom. Mick Moir opened his account in the Bury League with three wins to help Ramsbottom A to an 8-2 home win against first timers in the top division Maccabi A. Andy Jackson also won three, Graham Young one and Ramsbottom added the doubles. Stuart Landes and Louis Rosenthal got the better of Graham Young but Dean Clyne is still looking for his first win in this division.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich F were in top form when they met Carlton Vale at home when they dropped just one set in the night with Chris Sutcliffe beating Mike Dunn. Alex Waring and Barrie Fleet were the unbeaten Prestwich players. Prestwich E beat Carlton Club B 6-4 at home but with three sets to play Prestwich already had six wins so were hoping for a bigger winning margin. Carlton however reeled off the last three sets. Division three reserve Steve Evans for Carlton beat Joe Redikin in three straight. Tommy Ryan for Carlton beat Keith Butler at five in the fifth then Dave Holden beat Steve Hathaway in three straight. Steve Hathaway and Keith Butler each won two for Prestwich, Joe Redikin one and they won the vital doubles. Tommy Ryan won two for Carlton Club with Dave Holden and Steve Evans each adding one. ELPM A lost 3-7 at home to Coburg. Rob Bent for Coburg was the unbeaten player on the night. Paul Carter won the last set of the night for ELPM when he beat Jim Hewit at eight in the fifth. Gill Marsden for ELPM also had to fifth for her win when she beat Mark Speakman at eight in the fifth. Ian Cockcroft for ELPM had an easier time when he beat Mark Speakman in three straight. Jim Hewit won two for Coburg, Mark Speakman one and they won the doubles. Carlton Club C lost 1-9 at home to Prestwich D. Jim Bloomfield saved the whitewash for Carlton when he beat Bryan Beer. Peadar McKinstry and Gabriel Wilding were unbeaten for the visitors.

 

DIVISION THREE

Carlton Club D lost 4-6 at home to promoted Prestwich G. Paul Rourke was unbeaten on the night for Prestwich. Alistair Wakefield and Rod Hughes each won one and they won the doubles. Steve Evans and John Bostock each won two for Carlton. Elton Vale B drew at home to Maccabi C. David Hall opened his season with three wins for the home side, Keith Mills and John Dodd each add two. Daniel and Marc Sheldon each won two for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Maccabi B beat ELPM B 7-3 at home. Alan Meltzer was unbeaten for Maccabi, Robert Williams won two, Robert Clayton one and they won the doubles. Carol Mitchell won two for ELPM including a very tight eleven in the fifth set against Robert Williams. Steve Greaves for ELPM won one which was the opening set of the night against Robert Clayton at seven in the fourth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat Seedfield C 8-2 at home. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans were unbeaten for the home side plus they won the doubles. Phil Cooper and Jonathan Fitton each won one for Seedfield. Maccabi E also won by the same 8-2 margin when they played ELPM C at home. Barry Cohen and Peter Canter were unbeaten for Maccabi and Edward Freeman added two. John Edge won one for the visitors and they won the doubles. Holmar C were overwhelmed by their b team losing 1-9 and it was David Bells win against Royston Steventon that prevented the whitewash. John Millington and Ian Ferrari were the unbeaten B team players. Shawfield C lost 3-7 to their E team and it was James Collier for the E team who was unbeaten. James won a very close last set at seven in the fifth against Terry Shaw. Lauren Brassington and Scott Fleming each added two. Only Terry Shaw could get on the card for the C team winning both sets and they won the doubles at five in the fifth. Prestwich H were too good for Shawfield D winning 8-2 at home. Bob Goodman and Joe Walk were unbeaten for Prestwich, Ian Connell added one and they won the doubles. Andrew Ingham and Brian Philip each won one for Shawfield.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Seedfield E lost 4-6 at home to junior team Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy. Andy Wood and Barry Simpson each won two for Seedfield. Barry had a very close match with Olivia Wallis and just managed the win at nine in the fifth. Amelia Behrens also need five games to just get the better of Val Simpson at nine in the fifth. The other match that went the distance was when Andy Wood beat Olivia Wallis at three in the fifth. Dominic Siddall was unbeaten for Ramsbottom, Amelia Behrens and Olivia Wallis each added one and they won the doubles. Seedfield D beat Bury Grammar School Old Boys B 6-4 at home despite John Greenhalgh winning his three for the visitors. Unfortunately they could not add to John’s individual wins but won the doubles very narrowly at eleven in the fifth. The opening set was also a marathon when Adam Simpson just beat John Rowlands at ten in the fifth. Adam Simpson, Ian McKenzie and Steve Greenall each won two for Seedfield. Wardle beat the junior team from Maccabi F 8-2 at home. David Watts and Jack Gratton were unbeaten for Wardle, Harry Barlow added one and they won the doubles. Adam Gillman and Selwyn Burton each won one for Maccabi. ELPM D had too much experience of the new junior team Wardle B. Regulars Lawrence Paynter, Mario Piazza and Anthony Vindice each won their three for ELPM.
