Division 1

Seedfield A needs a surge of points in the last few matches of the season if they are to avoid relegation. They lost 2-8 at home to second placed Radcliffe Cricket Club. Jim Chadwick and Mick Dore each won their three for Radcliffe, Rob Hall added one and they won the doubles. David Poytress and Rob Carter each won one for the home team. Little Lever lost to Division leaders Ramsbottom Town A 3-7 at home but did manage to inflict the first loss of the season for Andy Jackson of Ramsbottom and Mick Moir also lost a set, only his second of the season. Phil Riley, Ronnie Durose and Steve McNicholas each won one for Little Lever. Andy Jackson, Mick Moir and Graham Young each won two for the visitors plus the doubles. Prestwich A lost 3-7 at home to Carlton Club A. Duncan Hadfield won two for the home team and Colin Boardman added one. Ian Quinn, Phil Myers and Gary Newton each won two for Carlton and they won the doubles. BAE were too good on the night for Burning Desire who lost 1-9 at home. Only Steve Barber could get on the card for the home side when he beat Tony Bates. Bates won two for the visitors but his team mates Tony Smith and Tom Lang were unbeaten plus they won the doubles. Martin Wyatt led the way for Ramsbottom Town C to a 6-4 home win when he was unbeaten against St.Philips A. Dave Kay added two and Les Phillipson won one though he had a very tight match against Derek Watmough just losing at twelve in the fifth.  Derek Watmough won two for the visitors, Dennis Collier one and they just won the doubles at nine in the fifth.

 

Division 2

St.Philips lost 2-8 at home to ELPM A. Dave Holden and John Biggins each won one for the home side. Andy McCheyne and John Dawes were on top form for ELPM A, winning their three, Carol Mitchell added one and they won the doubles. Maccabi A beat Carlton Club B 6-4 away and it was Stuart Landes who won his three for the visitors, Alan Meltzer one, reserve Marc Sheldon one and they won the doubles. Mark Reading won two for the home team, Jim Bloomfield and John Foster one each. In a hard hitting, all out attacking game Prestwich B confirmed why they are currently top of the division when they beat Polish Catholic Club 6-4 away. But it was Polish, the home team player Eddie Kalinowski who won his three and only Mick Hill was able to add one more for the Polish team. Six out of the ten sets went to five and Polish had every opportunity in getting a draw when they left the doubles to the end of the match. Polish were leading nine seven in the fifth and squandered the lead to lose the set and match. Andy Evans maintained his lead at the top of the averages with two wins, Dave Bolton matched Andy, Bryan Beer won one and they won the all important doubles. Prestwich C proved too strong for their D team winning 9-1 despite many tight sets. Eddie Simon and Peadar McKinstry were unbeaten on the night for the C team, Keith Butler added two and they won the doubles and the result keeps them well in contention for one of the promotion spots. The sole win for the D team was by Craig Bradbury. Chris Sutcliffe was in fine form in Stand’s match against Prestwich E when he won his three. His team mates were unable to add to the score line though narrowly lost the doubles at six in the fifth. Ken Crimes, Keith Butler and Barrie Fleet each won two for the visitors.

 

Division 3

Seedfield C lost 3-7 to their D team and it was Alan Telfer and Frank Carse who were on top form for the D team each with three wins and Phil Cooper one. Peter Ingham and Mike Charlton each won one for the C team and they added the doubles at twelve in the fifth. St.Sebastians lost 3-7 at home to Shawfield A and need some good results now until the end of the season if they are to avoid relegation. Dave Hargreaves won two for the home side; losing the opening set of the night at nine in the fifth to Phil Herd. Dave Stevens added the other win. Phil Herd was on top form for the visitors with three wins, Terry Shaw added two, Paul Nutter one and they won the doubles. Elton Vale Sports Club beat Hilton YMCA 7-3 at home. David Hall won his three for the home side, Keith Mills and Frank Green two each. Alan Bradshaw won two for the visitors though he narrowly lost at eleven in the fifth against Keith Mills. Hilton also won a tight doubles at three in the fifth. ELPM B drew at home to Maccabi B and Mark Willmore led the way with three wins for the home side, Gerry Faulkner won one and they added the doubles. Steve Greaves just missed out on any wins when he lost at six in the fifth to both Neil Fineberg and Robert Williams and nine in the fifth against Melvyn Levene. Four of the five sets that went to five went the way of Maccabi. Robert Williams and Melvyn Levene each won two for the visitors and Neil Fineberg add one. ELPM C lost 1-9 at home to Holmar A. Only the doubles went the way of the home team which they won in three straight games. Phil Wardle, Ian McPherson and Dave Fletcher each won their three for Holmar. Shawfield B lost 1-9 at home to clear division leaders Elton Vale Table Tennis Club. Dave Stubbington of Shawfield beat Mark Craven for their only win on the night. Graham Daniels won his three for Elton to maintain his clear lead at the top of the averages, Martin Nicholls also won his three, Mark Craven added two and they won the doubles.

 

Division 4

Seedfield E look doomed to relegation when they lost again, 2-8 against Holmar C. Reserve Adam Simpson was the only player for the home team to get on the score card with two wins. Jack Berry won his three for Holmar, John Millington and Neil Cowburn each won two and they added the doubles. Holmar B drew at home with Shawfield C. Martin Archer was in fine form with three wins for Holmar, Jim Eardley added one and they won the doubles. Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster each won two for Shawfield and Roger Snowden added one. Maccabi D narrowly beat Shawfield E 6-4 at home when they just won the doubles at seven in the fifth to clinch the win. Sheldon Lee was on top form for the home team with three wins with Buz Cohen and Aubrey Huller each adding one. Brian Philip won two for the visitors, Lauren Brassington and Eric Holmes added one each. Shawfield D lost 1-9 at home to Bury Grammar School old Boys A and Barry Collier won the won set for the home team. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans each won their three for the visitors, Martyn Warburton two and they won the doubles. Division leaders Maccabi C lost 3-7 at home to Carlton Club C who are now in third place but just one point away from a promotion place. Steve Evans, Keith Cheyne and John Bostock each won two for the visitors plus they added the doubles. Steve lost out on his treble on the night when he lost at six in the fifth to Les Suss who had just this one win for the home side. Robert Clayton added the other two. Ramsbottom Town D drew at home to Prestwich F and Joe Walk led the way for the home team with three fine wins. Only Paul Wood was able to add to the score with one win and they won the doubles. Roger Whewell lost the last set of the night at seven in the fifth to give Rod Hughes one win for Prestwich. Alistair Wakefield and Paul Rourke each won two.

 

Division 5

Wardle beat Shawfield G 8-2 at home. Jack Gratton won his three for the home team, Harry Barlow and Peter Ward two each plus the doubles. Joshua Fallows and Sam Burgoyne each won one for Shawfield. Maccabi E was too strong for their F team and won 7-3. Bobby Lee was in good form with three wins for the E team, Edward Freeman added two, Peter Canter one and they won the doubles. Alan Nesbit won two for the F team and Jack Nesbit one. Bob Goodman led Prestwich G to an 8-2 beating at home of Seedfield G. Bob won his three to keep on the top of the averages though Alan Nesbit of Maccabi F has a match in hand and is only two wins behind. John Herman and Scott Hill each won two and Prestwich won the doubles. Graham Wright and Barry Simpson each won one for the visitors. Shawfield F lost 4-6 at home to ELPM D. Anthony Vindice was in the best form for the visitors winning his three, Lawrence Paynter two and Mario Piazza one. Peter Helmn won two for the home side and Scott Fleming one. BGSOB B was too good for Holmar E on the night winning 9-1 at home. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh were both unbeaten for the home team; John Rowlands added two plus the doubles. Only John Heyes could get on the score card for Holmar with his one win. Ramsbottom TT Academy A drew at home to Seedfield F and just keep in touch with a promotion spot which could go to the last week of the season before its decided. Adam Simpson was unbeaten on the night for Seedfield. Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall each added one. Nick Kroll and Ben Farrar each won two for the home side and they won the doubles. Reserve Reece Mitchell had to pull out of his last set of the night because of injury.
