DIVISION ONE

Carlton Club A beat Prestwich TTC A 6-4 at home and it was Colin Boardman for the visitors who remained unbeaten on the night and only reserve Dave Cheetham could add another win. Ian Quinn and Phil Myers each won two for Carlton, Kevin Chapman one and they won the doubles. Radcliffe Cc beat Seedfield A 10-0 at home and Rob Hall, Jim Chadwick and Mick Dore were the three home players who were unbeaten. St.Philips A had a very close draw with Ramsbottom C though Derek Watmough won his three for the home team. He won his third of the night at seven in the fifth against Martin Wyatt. Dennis Collier had two five setters and won a eleven in the fifth against Les Phillipson and lost at six in the fifth to Martin Wyatt. New reserve for the home team failed to get on the score card and his closest set was where he lost at eight in the fifth against Les Phillipson. Martin Wyatt won two for the visitors, Les Phillipson one each and they won the vital doubles at nine in the fifth. Ramsbottom A beat visitors Little Lever 9-1 and the only set to go the visitor’s way was when Steve McNicholas beat Graham Young in four. Ronnie Durose lost all his three for the second week in a row. His nearest challenge was when he lost at ten in the fifth against Graham Young. Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson were unbeaten, Graham Young added two and they won the doubles.

DIVISION TWO

Maccabi A lost 4-6 at home to Carlton Club B though Stuart Landes did win his three for the home team and Dean Clyne added one. Dean lost at eight in the fifth to Mark Reading who won two for the visitors as did John Foster, Jim Bloomfield one and they added the vital doubles. It was a very tight doubles that saw the visitors win the first two games, Maccabi hit back with the next two only to lose at eight in the fifth to give Carlton that vital set for the win on the night. Prestwich E beat Stand CC 7-3 at home and Andy Battersby was unbeaten for the home team. Keith Butler added two, Ken Crimes one and they won the doubles. Chris Sutcliffe won two for Stand and Dave Jackson one. Early leaders for the division met each other and though Polish Catholic Club lost 4-6 away with only two players to Prestwich B they share top spot. Mick Hill was in good form for the visitors with three wins and Eddie Kalinowski won the other one. Andy Evans and Dave Bolton each won two for Prestwich, Bryan Beer one and the won the vital doubles. ELPM A beat St.Philips B 8-2 at home and John Dawes and Andy McCheyne were unbeaten on the night for the home team. Carol Mitchell added one and they won the doubles. John Biggins and Dave Holden each won one for the visitors. Prestwich D lost to their C team 3-7. Paul Howarth and Alex Waring each won one for the D team and they won the doubles. Eddie Simon and Peadar McKinstry each won three for the C team and Joe Redikin added one.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield D drew with their C team and it was Alan Carse who was in the best form with three wins for the C team and Mike Charlton added two. Alan Carse narrowly missed getting on the score card for the C team when he lost the opening set at seven in the fifth against Phil Cooper. The doubles were vital for the D team which they won at nine in the fifth to secure the draw. Alan Telfer won two for the D team with Ali McKernan and Phil Cooper with one each. Holmar A beat ELPM C 8-2 at home and it was Phil Wardle who was unbeaten on the night with Ian McPherson winning two as did reserve Ian Ferrari and they won the doubles. Only Gill Marsden got on the score card for the visitors with two wins. Elton Vale TTC is well ahead in the early promotion stakes but Graham Daniels lost his first set of the season for the home team to Wayne Ellis of Shawfield B in a match that finished 7-3 for Elton. Graham Daniels, Martin Nicholls and Mark Craven each won two and they added the doubles. Wayne Ellis had three fine wins, the only ones on the night for the visitors. Maccabi B lost 3-7 at home to ELPM B. Neil Fineberg won two for the home team and Robert Williams added one. Mark Willmore kept his joint lead of the top ten with three wins, Gerry Faulkner two, Steve Greaves one and they added the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Carlton Club C drew with Maccabi C and it was Steve Evans who won his three on the night for the home team and only John Bostock could add two. Keith Cheyne for the first time this season lost all his three. Robert Clayton won two for the visitors and Les Suss and Frank Sheldon each adding one and they won the vital doubles for the draw. BGSOB A beat Shawfield D 6-4 at home and Barry Warburton was unbeaten for the home team, Andy Evans added two and they won the doubles. Andrew Ingham won two for Shawfield and narrowly missed his treble when he lost at seven in the fifth against Barry Warburton. Barry Collier and Alisdair MacIver each added one. Holmar C beat struggling Seedfield E 10-0 at home and John Millington, Jack Berry and Ian Ferrari were the unbeaten home players on the night. Maccabi D beat Shawfield E away and it was Buz Cohen, Marc Sheldon and Sheldon Lee who did the damage, each winning their three and the doubles to win 10-0. Shawfield C pipped Holmar D 6-4 at home and it was Ashley Ingham who was on the best form winning his three, Peter Gregory added two and Roger Snowden one. Jim Eardley won two for Holmar, Martin Archer 1 and they added the doubles. Prestwich F drew at home with Ramsbottom D. Richard Hinchcliffe and Alisdair Wakefield each won two and they won the doubles. Roger Whewell won his three for the visitors, Derek Edwards and Chris Leaves each added one.

 

DIVISION FIVE

What promised to be a close encounter between Seedfield F and Ramsbottom Academy A when the first four sets were shared for Seedfield the home team to race into a six two lead. Tom Warburton won the first set at eight in the fifth from two games down against Mike Ollerton. Nick Kroll added another win for the visitors in a straight sets win over Steve Greenall. The only other set for the visitors was a second win for Tom Warburton, again in five against Adam Simpson. Mike Ollerton. Adam Simpson and Steve Greenall each won two for the home team plus the doubles for a 7-3 win at home. Prestwich G beat Seedfield G away 10-0 and it put Bob Goodman at the top of the averages with fifteen wins out of fifteen. Martin Ingram and Scott Hill also won their three for Prestwich. Holmar E lost 2-8 at home and John Heyes and Graham Wardle won one each for the home team. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh were unbeaten for the visitors, Phil Hilton added one and they added the doubles. Though losing 1-9 to their F team Maccabi E still remain near the top of the division after a strong start to the season. Only Louis Samuels managed to beat Jack Nesbit and score one win for the E team. Alan Nesbit and Yoni Morrison each won three for the F team and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom Academy B lost 1-9 at home and their only victory was Domonic Siddall beating David Bell at ten in the fifth. David Headley lost at nine in the fifth against Gerald Quemeneur, Daniel Allen lost at six in the fifth against David Bell and Domonic Siddall lost at five in the fifth against Gerald. So the match could have been much closer had any of those sets gone the way of the home team. David Bell and Alan Fletcher were unbeaten on the night for Holmar, Gerald added two and they won the doubles. ELPM D beat Shawfield F 6-4 at home with Andy Caunce showing top form by winning his three, Anthony Vindice two and Mario Piazza one. Peter Helmn won two for Shawfield, Jason Wild one and they won the doubles at ten in the fifth.
