DIVISION ONE
Seedfield lost 4-6 at home to Burning Desire. All six players got on the score card and David Poytress for the home side lost the opening set of the night to Ben Armstrong at ten in the fifth. David went on to win his other two sets. Peter Mears for Seedfield won his opening set of the night when he beat Brett Haslam at ten in the third. Julian Nuttall had to go the distance for his one win when he beat Ben Armstrong at three in the fifth. The doubles was a close set which the visitors took at four in the fifth. Steve Barber for Burning Desire beat Peter Mears at ten in the fourth and Julian three straight. Steve lost his last set of the night to David at seven in the third. Brett beat Julian in three straight. Prestwich C lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi A. Stuart Landes and Dean Clyne were unbeaten for Maccabi. Eddie Simon, Dave Bolton and reserve Peadar McKinstry for Prestwich all beat division three reserve Robert Williams. Prestwich added the doubles. Phil Riley prevented a white wash at home to BAE when he beat Tony Vaughan. Tom Lang and Tony Smith were the unbeaten BAE players. Second placed Radcliffe lost to the top team Ramsbottom Town 1-9 and Phil Biggs for the home side beat Mark Ramsbottom to secure the one point. Mick Moir and top of the averages Andy Jackson were unbeaten on the night. Prestwich B had a tighter match than the score line shows against Prestwich B at home. Six of the sets went five plus Ian Quinn for Carlton Club was playing with a shoulder injury which hampered his play and was unable to get on the score card. Colin Boardman was unbeaten for Prestwich. Paul King and Rob Belli each added two plus they won the doubles. Phil Myers and Gary Newton each won one for Carlton. Ramsbottom B beat Prestwich A 8-2 at home. Liam Bedford was unbeaten for the home side though he was taken the distance by Paul King but eventually won eleven two in the fifth. Khamal Hussain won two, playing for the first time this season. In his opening set of the night he lost at three in the fifth by Paul King. Khamal was also taken to five by Matty Evans and won that thirteen eleven. Mike Nettleton was the third Ramsbottom player and he won two but lost in a marathon set against Paul King with three of the five games going to juice and beyond. The fourth game Mike won twenty two twenty but eventually lost at eight in the fifth to Paul King who won the two Prestwich sets on the night. In total seven of the ten sets went to five, Ramsbottom winning five of them
DIVISION TWO
Carlton Club B played Prestwich F and won 8-2 at home but their match was made easier when Prestwich only had two players. John Biggins for Carlton had to fight for his three wins when he was taken the distance in the second set of the night which won eleven nine. In his next set John again when the distance with Rob Lee and again won this time fairly comfortably eleven three. Division three reserve Steve Evans for Carlton lost at eight in the fifth then had a fine win in his last set of the night when he beat Rob Lee three straight. Alex Waring for Prestwich had a fine win and his second of the night when he beat Tommy Ryan at nine in the fifth. ELPM A beat Polish Catholic Club 8-2 at home Ian Cockcroft was unbeaten for the home side. Paul Carter and Gillian Marsden each added two and they won the doubles. Only Liaqat Ali could get on the score card for Polish with two wins. Prestwich D are certain to be promoted but made sure when they beat Elton Vale A 9-1 at home. Graham Daniels beat Peadar McKinstry for Elton’s sole win. Gabriel Wilding and Bryan Beer were the unbeaten Prestwich players. Carlton Club C lost 4-6 at home to Carlton Vale. Paul Tatlock for the visitors was unbeaten on the night, Dave Jackson added two and partnered with Paul they beat Mark Reading and Jim Bloomfield at eleven in the fifth. Mark just lost to Paul at nine in the fifth. John Foster and Jim Bloomfield each won one. Prestwich E beat Seedfield B 10-0 at home. Seedfield made their task harder because there were only two players. Keith Butler, Joe Redikin and Steve Hathaway were the unbeaten Prestwich players.
DIVISION THREE
Holmar A lost 3-7 at home to Carlton Club D but Phil Wardle for the home side was the unbeaten player on the night. Steve Evans, Keith Cheyne and new reserve Andy McNabb each won two and they won the doubles. Maccabi C drew at home to Prestwich G. Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi. Marc Sheldon added one as did reserve Alan Nesbitt. Alistair Wakefield won two for Prestwich, Paul Rourke and Rod Hughes each added one and they won the doubles. Shawfield A lost 4-6 to their B team. Peter Gregory was unbeaten for the B team, Roger Snowden won two and Ashley Ingham one. Wayne Ellis won two for the A team, Dave Stubbington one and they won the doubles.
DIVISION FOUR
Seedfield Methodists C lost 4 -6 at home despite home player Ali McKernan winning his three including a marathon last set against Bob Goodman which Ali won fifteen thirteen. Jonathan Fitton for Seedfield added their other win when he beat Ian Connell in three. Not having played for three weeks Phil Cooper Seedfield’s third player just lost out on any wins when he was beaten at three in the fifth against Joe Walk. Bob and Joe each won two, Ian Connell one and they won the doubles at five in the fourth. Bury Grammar School Old Boys A showed why they are top of the division when they beat Holmar C 9-1 at home. Holmars only win was when David Bell beat Martyn Warburton. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans were unbeaten for the home side. Maccabi D lost 4-6 at home to their E team despite Scott Marshall being unbeaten for the D team. Aubrey Huller added the other win. Buz Cohen and Peter Canter each won two for the E team, Edward Freeman one and they won the doubles. Shawfield E drew at home against ELPM C. Debbie Wilson was unbeaten for the visitors and John Edge added the other two. James Collier and Scott Flemming each won two for the home side and Lauren Brassington won one. Shawfield C beat their D team 8-2. Terry Shaw led the way for the C team with three wins, Phil Herd and Paul Nutter each won two and they won the doubles at seven in the fifth. Barry Collier and Brian Philip each won one for the D tea,
DIVISION FIVE
Holmar D beat Shawfield F 6-4 at home. Nigel Shaw led the way for Holmar with three wins. John Heyes and Graham Wardle each added one and they won the doubles. Jason Wild and Maz Khan each won two for the visitors. Wardle B lost 2-8 to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B. With two matches left, against the bottom two teams it look like Bury Grammar are heading for division four. Graham Hilton was unbeaten for the visitors. The two Johns Greenhalgh and Rowlands each added two and they won the doubles. Ian Barton won the two sets for Wardle.
