DIVISION ONE

Maccabi A could only wrestle the doubles from an otherwise match dominated by Prestwich A who won 9-1. Dean Clyne had reserves from division three Robert Williams and Alan Meltzer to replace the injured Stuart Landes and unavailable Louis Rosenthal. Ian McLean, Paul King and Nathan Buckley were the unbeaten Prestwich players. Prestwich B however lost 3-7 at home to Little Lever. Dennis Collier was on top form for the visitors with three wins, Lee Devenport added two, Phil Riley one and they won the doubles. The match was closer than the score made out with seven of the ten sets going the full distance. David Pegg, Rob Belli and reserve Gabriel Wilding each won one for Prestwich. Carlton Club A lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich C. Andy Evans for Prestwich was the unbeaten player on the night. Dave Bolton and Eddie Simon each added tow. Ian Quinn and Phil Myers each won one for Carlton and they won the doubles. Radcliffe CC beat Burning Desire 9-1. Only Ben Armstrong for Burning Desire could register a win for the home side against Rob Hall.  Jim Chadwick and Mick Dore were unbeaten for Radcliffe plus they won the doubles.  BAE beat Seedfield A 10-0 at home. Their task made a bit easier because Seedfield only had two players. Tony Smith, Tom Land, and Tony Vaughan were the unbeaten BAE players.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich E beat Carlton Club C 7-3 at home. Mohammed Sagied was unbeaten for Prestwich though he was taken the distance in the opening set of the night and just got the better of Mark Reading at six in the fifth. He struggled in the last set of the night as well when Jim Bloomfield came away from the match without a win but just lost to Mohammed at eight in the fifth. Steve Hathaway was denied his treble when Mark Reading pipped him at sixteen in the fifth. Keith Butler lost to Stuart Carter at ten in the fourth. Mark Reading and Stuart Carter each won one for Carlton and they won the doubles. Prestwich F lost 2-8 at home to ELPM A. Alex Waring and Mike Dunn each won one for Prestwich. Rob Carter, playing for only the second time this season won his three, as he did the first match last year. Son of Rob, Paul won two as did Ian Cockcroft and they won the doubles. Polish Catholic Club lost 4-6 at home to promotion contenders Coburg. Rob Bent was unbeaten for Coburg, Derek Watmough won two and Jim Hewitt one. The ‘Eddies’ Kalinowski and Robakowski each won one for Polish as did Peter Hill. Only Dave Jackson could stop the whitewash at home for Carlton Vale against Carlton Club B. He beat John Biggins at ten in the third. Chris Sutcliffe failed to get on the score card for the first time this season though did take Tommy Ryan close but lost at three in the fifth. Tommy and Dave Holden were unbeaten for Carlton plus they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION THREE

Holmar A beat Shawfield A 6-4 at home but it was Wayne Ellis for Shawfield who was the unbeaten player on the night. Shawfield could only add the doubles to their tally. Regulars of Phil Wardle, Ian McPherson and David Fletcher each won two for Holmar. ELPM B drew at home to Prestwich G. Steve Greaves and Carol Mitchell each won two for the home side and Gerry Faulkner added one. DIVISION FOUR

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat Shawfield C and it was Barry Warburton who won his three for the home team to get revenge for his match with them in the first half of the season. Barry dropped his only set to them so far this season and had it not been for him missing two matches he certainly would have been challenging for the top ten medal. Martyn Warburton and Andy Evans each added one for the home side plus they won the doubles. Terry Shaw and Phil Herd each won two for Shawfield. Holmar C was on top form when they beat Shawfield E 9-1 at home. Only James Collier could get on the score board for Shawfield when he beat Gary Bolton. David Bell and Jack Berry were the unbeaten Holmar players plus they won the doubles. Prestwich H drew at home to Maccabi D. Bob Goodman lost a rare set in the opener for the night against Scott Marshall who won at four in the fourth. Joe Walk was unbeaten for Prestwich despite being taken close by Scott but eventually winning at eight in the fifth. Scott won two for Maccabi, Frank Sheldon and Aubrey Huller each added one and they won the doubles at seven in the fourth. Shawfield D lost 4-6 at home to Seedfield C. Jonathan Fitton led the way on the night with three wins for Seedfield. Alistair McKernan added two and Ian McKenzie one. Barry Collier and Alisdair McIver each won two for Shawfield. ELPM C beat Holmar B 7-3 at home. John Edge, Harry Uren and Debbie Wilson each won two for ELPM and they won the doubles. Trevor Candler won two for Holmar and Royston Steventon one.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Junior team Maccabi F drew at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B. Adam Gilman and Nathan Jacobs each won two for Maccabi and Ashley Landes one. Adam just lost out on his treble when he was beaten in his opening set of the night at five in the fifth against John Rowlands. Ashley’s only win came at five in the fifth against Tim Hope. John Rowlands and Graham Hilton each won two for Bury Grammar and they won the doubles at four in the fourth. Wardle A drew with their B team and Ian Barton was unbeaten for the B team. Neil Bamford and Katie Dell each added one. David Watts and Peter Ward each won two for the A team and they won the doubles.
