DIVISION ONE

Prestwich B lost 3-7 to their A team and it was Duncan Hadfield for the A team who was unbeaten on the night. Dave Pegg added two, Dave Cheetham one and they won the doubles. Andy Evans, Dave Bolton and Bryan Beer each won one for the B team. Prestwich C lost 2-8 at home to Ramsbottom Town A. Peadar McKinstry and Lee Devenport for Prestwich both beat Graham Young. Mick Moir and Andy Jackson were unbeaten for Ramsbottom, Graham won one and they won the doubles. BAE beat St.Philips 9-1 at home where Dennis Collier for the visitors was the only one to score a win for St.Philips. Tony Smith and Tony Bates were unbeaten for BAE, Ian Gerrard won two and they won the doubles. Little Lever also had a 9-1 win at home against Burning Desire. The only win for the visitors came from Steve Barber who beat Steve McNicholas which left Phil Riley and Ian Lansdale unbeaten for Little Lever.

 

DIVISION TWO

ELPM A lost 3-7 at home to Maccabi A. Paul Carter won two for the home side and John Dawes one. Dean Clyne was on top form with three wins for Maccabi, Stuart Landes losing his first set of the season with two wins, Alan Meltzer one and they won the doubles. Elton Vale A lost 3-7 at home to S.P.Carlton and it was Tommy Ryan for the visitors who maintained his 100% record this season by winning his three. Dave Holden won two, John Biggins one and they added the doubles. John took Graham Daniels to a fifth game before losing at ten. Graham won two on the night for Elton. Martin Nicholls made hard work for his one win against John Biggins. Martin was looking to go two games to one up when he was leading six nil in the third game only to lose the next eleven points and the game! He just recovered to win the next two games at five and nine. Mark Craven couldn’t quite get on the score card despite winning the first game at fifteen but eventually losing at five in the fifth to John Biggins. Prestwich E beat Carlton Club B 6-4 at home. Leading five one at one stage it looked like Prestwich were going to have a clear win but Carlton rallied to win three of the last four sets. The doubles are always key in such close matches and it was the home team that managed to win at six in the fifth to give them the match win. Alex Waring and Ken Crimes each won two for the home side and Mohammed Sagied one. Jim Bloomfield and Mark Reading each won two for Carlton. John Foster came so close to a win against Ken Crimes but lost at thirteen in the fifth. Polish Catholic Club drew at home to Prestwich D and Liquat Ali led the way for Polish with three wins including a very close last set with Steve Hathaway which he took at eight in the fifth. Ian Byrne won two. Keith Butler won two for Prestwich, Steve Hathaway and Joe Redikin each adding one and they won the doubles at fourteen in the third.

 

DIVISION THREE

Seedfield B dished out a drubbing of their C team where Stephen Siddall won the last set of the night for the C team against Alan Telfer. Peter Ingham won three for the B team but he had to go to five with Phil Cooper as did Mike Charlton to win his three. Elton Vale B beat ELPM B 6-4 at home and David Hall led the way for the home side with three wins. Jim Bollard won two and they won the doubles. Gerry Faulkner and Carol Mitchell each won two for ELPM and Steve Greaves unusually failed to win any. Ramsbottom Town B beat Carlton Club C 6-4 at home. Neil Booth was unbeaten for Ramsbottom and they won the doubles. Tim Fields was their third player and lost at ten in the fifth to both Steve Evans and Keith Cheyne for their one win each for Carlton and John Bostock won two.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Two promoted teams from last season met and drew their match. Maccabi E played junior team Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy A and sets were exchanged by both sides all night. Stuart Simpson for Maccabi faced Nick Kroll with the match standing at five four in favour of the visitors and beat Nick at seven in the forth to tie the match. Callum Stott was unbeaten on the night but was taken all the way by Stuart Simpson and eventually won at three in the fifth. Ramsbottom lost their first doubles of the season at eight in the forth. Maccabi F beat Prestwich G 7-3 at home but Bob Goodman was the unbeaten player on the night for the visitors. Alan and Jack Nesbit along with Yoni Morrison each won two for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Maccabi D drew at home to Bury Grammars Bold Boys A and a fine three wins for Aubrey Huller helped the home team’s score line. Buz Cohen and Sheldon Lee each added one and were so close to winning the doubles which eventually went the way of the visitors at eleven in the fifth. Shawfield D lost 2-8 at home to Holmar B. Alan Hibbert was unbeaten for the visitors, Trevor Candler and John Millington each won two and they won the doubles. Andrew Ingham and Brian Philip each won one for Shawfield

 

DIVISION FIVE

Shawfield G lost 4-6 at home to the junior side of Maccabi G despite Joshua Fallows winning his three for the home side. Dean Walmsley won the other set. Sam Ballin and Ashley Lands each won two for Maccabi, Adam Gillman one and the won the vital doubles. Seedfield Methodists D beat their E team with all but three sets were won in three straight. Ian McKenzie, Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall were the unbeaten players for the D team. Holmar D beat their E team 7-3 and David Bell continued his good form early in the season with three wins for the home side. Alan Fletcher and Gary Bolton each added two. Holmar E had to settle with one win each from Nigel Shaw and John Heyes and they won the doubles. Shawfield F lost 4-6 at home to Bury Grammar School Old Bys B. Scott Fleming won two, Jason Wild one and they won the doubles. John Rowlands was unbeaten on the night for the visitors, John Greenhalgh won two and Peter Metcalfe one. ELPM D lost 4-6 at home to Wardle Conservative Club. Lawrence Paynter won two for ELPM, Mario Piazza and Antony Vindice each added one. David Watts was unbeaten for Wardle, Jack Gratton won two and they added the doubles. Ramsbottom TT Academy B lost 3-7 at home to Shawfield E. Ben Duffy beat Lauren Brassington at two in the fourth and Dominic Siddall beat Peter Helm at thirteen in the third. Ramsbottom also just won the doubles in a very close set at ten in the fifth. James Collier was unbeaten for Shawfield.
