DIVISION ONE
Seedfield Methodists lost 2-8 at home to Radcliffe CC. David Poytress for Seedfield beat Mick Dore at five in the fourth and Julian Nuttall had a fine win also over Mick at five in the fifth. Those were the two wins for Seedfield which left Jim Chadwick and Rob Hall the unbeaten players for Radcliffe. Radcliffe also won the doubles at seven in the fourth. Despite Louis Rosenthal winning his three Maccabi A lost 3-7 to Carlton Club. Ian Quinn, Gary Newton and Phil Myers each won two for the visitors and they added the doubles. Darren Lindley and Ian McLean for Prestwich A each won their three when they played their B team. Ian has made a return to the Bury League after a twenty five year absence. He played for Sutherland High School with the Brown brothers. Duncan Hadfield added on and they won the doubles. Colin won the only set for the B team. BAE lost 2-8 at home to Ramsbottom Town A. Tony Bates and Tom Lang each beat Geoff Craighill. Andrew Jackson and Brian Clements were the unbeaten Ramsbottom players. Burning Desire lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich C and it was Andy Evans for the visitors who was unbeaten on the night. Dave Bolton and reserve Steve Hathaway each added one and they won the doubles. Andy Kaye won two to Burning Desire, Steve Barber and Ben Armstrong each adding one.
DIVISION TWO
Prestwich F came out losers in their match with their D team with new signing Mike Dunn saving a whitewash when he beat Peadar McKinstry. Bryan Beer reversed his loss of all three sets last week to winning them all. Gabriel Wilding also won three and they won the doubles. Carlton Club B beat ELPM A 8-2 at home and Dave Scowcroft and Tommy Ryan were the unbeaten players for the home side. Stuart Carter added one and they won a very tight doubles at eight in the fifth. All other sets went to four and Paul Carter and Carol Mitchell each won one for the visitors. Promoted Coburg Table Tennis Club crushed Carlton Club C 10-0 at home. Rob Bent, Chris Naylor and Alan Cowley were the unbeaten players. Carlton Vale lost 3-7 to Polish Catholic Club. Chris Sutcliffe, Dave Jackson and Steve Morris each won one, all beating Eddie Robakowski. Eddie Kalinowski and Ian Byrne were unbeaten for Polish plus they won the doubles.
DIVISION THREE
Maccabi C won 7-3 at home to Shawfield A and Daniel Sheldon won his three for the home side. Sheldon Lee won two, Marc Sheldon one and they won the doubles. Wayne Ellis won two for Shawfield and Dave Stubbington one. ELPM B lost 3-7 at home to Carlton Club D and only Carol Mitchell could get on the score card for ELPM with two wins plus they won the doubles. Steve Evans was unbeaten for Carlton, John Bostock and Keith Cheyne each added two. Promoted team from division for lost 1-9 to relegated team from division two Holmar A. Phil Wardle and David Fletcher were unbeaten for the visitors, Ian McPherson added two and they won the doubles. Rod Hughes won the one for Prestwich. Shawfield B lost 1-9 at home to Maccabi B. Roger Snowden won the one for the home side when he beat Robert Williams. Alan Meltzer and Robert Clayton were unbeaten for the visitors.
DIVISION FOUR
Seedfield Methodists C who were relegated last season and didn’t get off to a good start when the lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi D. With the match standing at four sets each Maccabi took the last two sets for the win. Alistair McKernan returned to the League after a few years absence and made a good start winning his opening match at six in the fifth against Frank Sheldon. Stephen Siddall had an equally tight match when he beat Aubrey Huller at seven in the fifth. Jonathan Fitton for Seedfield was without a win but got very close to Frank Sheldon and in the end losing at six in the fifth. Stephen and Alistair won two each for Seedfield. Alan Nesbitt and Frank each won two for Maccabi, Aubrey one and they took the doubles at six in the fourth. Holmar B lost 4-6 at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys A. Barry Warburton was on his usual high form winning his three with relative ease for Bury Grammar. Andy Evans added two for Bury Grammar losing his opening set to Ian Ferrari. Ian also beat Tim Hope. Burry Grammar added the doubles to take the win. Roy Steventon and Trevor Candler each won one for the home side. ELPM C beat Holmar C 8-2 at home. Debbie Wilson led the way for the home side with three wins, Harry Uren and John Edge each added two and they won the doubles. David Bell was the only player to get on the card for Holmar with two wins. Prestwich H beat Shawfield E 9-1 at home. Lauren Brassington scored the only win for Shawfield when she beat Ian Connell in three straight. Peter Helmn came very close to beating Ian but just lost at eight in the fifth.
DIVISION FIVE
Holmar D beat ELPM D 7-3 at home and John Heyes led the way with three wins, Nigel Shaw and Graham Wardle each adding two. Anthony Vindice and Lawrence Paynter each won one for the visitors and they won the doubles. Junior team Maccabi F beat Seedfield D 8-2 at home. Ashley Landes had three good wins for the home side, Adam Gillman and Selwyn Burton each won two and they won the doubles. Mike Ollerton and Ian McKenzie each won one for Seedfield. Shawfield F beat junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy 8-2 at home. Jason Wild and Paul Ellis were unbeaten for the home side, Graham Broomhead won the other two. Dominic Siddall won one for Ramsbottom and they won the doubles. Wardle B won 7-3 at home and Beth Mansfield, Katie Dell and David Scott each won two plus they won the doubles. Barry Simpson was too good for all Shawfield players winning a rare three for Seedfield only points. In fact a quick look back in the records shows that Barry had is last ‘treble’ week commencing 2nd November 2009; against another Shawfield team!
