DIVISION ONE

Little Lever beat Adelphi 6-4 at home and Ronnie Durose won his three for the home side with Steve McNicholas adding two and Ian Lansdale one. Over 60’s Veterans Champion Tommy Ryan won two for the visitors and Lee Devenport added one plus they won the doubles. Divisional leaders took maximum points off Prestwich A at home where Khamal Hussain, Andy Jackson and Mick Moir won their matches for the Ramsbottom. St.Philips A drew at home with Carlton Club A and it was Ian Quinn from the visitors who was on the best form with three wins. Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each added one. Dennis Collier and Derek Watmough each won two for the home team and they won the doubles. Burning Desire overwhelmed Seedfield A beating them 10-0 though it had to be said that the home team had two reserves, Andy Hamilton and Mike Charlton. Ben Armstrong, Andy Kaye and Steve Barber did the damage with three wins each and they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION TWO

Maccabi A lost 2-8 at home to Prestwich C who are chasing one of the promotion spots along with their B team. Alan Meltzer and Frank Sheldon each beat Joe Redikin to register Maccabi’s only points though they fell apart in the doubles losing 0-11in the fifth. Peadar McKinstry and Eddie Simon each won their three for Prestwich, Joe Redikin one and they added the doubles. Seedfield Methodists B lost by the same score line 2-8 against ELPM A. Andy Hamilton reversed his form from three wins last week to none this week though he did narrowly lose at nine in the fifth against John Dawes and also Carol Mitchell. Julian Nuttall and reserve Mike Charlton each won one for the home team. John Dawes was unbeaten on the night for ELPM, Andy McCheyne and Carol Mitchell each added two and they won the doubles. Prestwich E lost 1-9 to Polish Catholic Club despite some very close sets. Ken Crimes from Prestwich lost at twelve in the fifth to Ian Byrne and seven in the fifth to Eddie Kalinowski. Barrie Fleet lost at eight in the fifth to Ian Byrne and four in the fifth to Mick Hill but beating Eddie Kalinowski for Prestwich’s sole win. Mick Hill and Ian Byrne won their three for Polish and they won the doubles. Carlton Club B just managed a 6-4 win at home to St.Philips B despite three wins from Dave Holden of the visitors. Only John Biggins could add one more for St.Philips. Mark Reading and Jim Bloomfield each won two for the home side, John Foster one and they won the vital doubles.

 

DIVISION THREE

Elton Vale TT Club beat Holmar A 7-3 to retain a strong grip on top spot in the division. Graham Daniels for the home team helped his chance of top spot in the averages with three more wins, Martin Nichols added three as well and they won the doubles. Phil Wardle, Ian McPherson and David Fletcher each won one for the visitors. ELPM B beat Seedfield C 8-2 at home and with two matches in hand are in a strong promotion position. Mark Willmore won his three for the home team with Steve Greaves and Paul Cater each adding two and they won the doubles. Only Alan Carse could get on the score card for the visitors with two wins. Shawfield A crushed ELPM C 9-1 at home with John Edge the sole winner for the visitors beating Paul Nutter of Shawfield. Paul won two but Phil Herd and Terry Shaw each won three plus they added the doubles. Maccabi B beat Shawfield B 9-1 at home with Neil Fineberg and Melvyn Levene being the unbeaten players and it was left to Wayne Ellis to win the one set for the visitors when he beat Robert Williams. St.Sebastians lost 1-9 at home to Elton Vale Sports Club and the result does not help the home teams total of points this season and leaves them close to a relegation spot. Mark Stevens won the only set for the home team when he beat Keith Mills. Rodney Hall and Frank Green each won their three, Keith Mills two and the added the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A lost 4-6 at home Carlton Club C. Barry Warburton lost only his fifth set of the season but remains a strong contender in the averages. He won two for the home team, Martyn Warburton one and they won the doubles. Steve Evans was in good form for the visitors winning three, Keith Cheyne two including a close ten in the fifth against Martyn Warburton and Clive Roberts added the vital one for the win. Holmar B beat Maccabi D 7-3 at home and it was reserve Ian Ferrari who won his three for the home team with Martin Archer adding two, Jim Eardley one and they won the doubles. Buz Cohen won two for the visitors and Marc Sheldon one. Current divisional leaders Maccabi C won 7-3 away to second placed team Shawfield C. All six players contributed to the score. Ashley Ingham, Alisdair MacIver and Andrew Webster each won one for the home side. Robert Clayton, Frank Sheldon and Les Suss each won two for Maccabi plus they added the doubles. Prestwich F beat Shawfield D 8-2 at home and Rod Hughes and Paul Rourke each winning their three and Alistair Wakefield adding two. Only Barry Collier could get on the score card for the visitors but they did add the doubles. Holmar C beat Shawfield E 7-3 at home. Ian Ferrari was on good form winning his three, John Millington and Jack Berry each added two. Brian Philip and Lauren Brassington each won one for the visitors and they won the doubles.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Seedfield F drew with Holmar E and it was Adam Simpson who was on best form with three wins for the home team with Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall each adding one. Nigel Shaw and Graham Wardle each won two for the visitors and they won the doubles. Maccabi F helped their promotion cause with a 9-1 defeat of Shawfield G. Alan and Jack Nesbitt each won three for the home team, Yoni Morrison two and they won the doubles. Joshua Fallows won the sole set for Shawfield. Bottom placed Seedfield G lost 0-10 to Maccabi E where Louis Samuels, Peter Canter and Edward Freeman each won their three for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Shawfield F beat Holmar D 6-4 at home and it was Peter Helmn who led the way for the home team winning his three, Scott Fleming two and Jason wild one. Alan Fletcher won two for Holmar, David Bell one and they added the doubles. ELPM D lost 3-7 to Ramsbottom TT Academy A. Callum Stott won his three for the visitors with Tom Warburton adding two. Nick Kroll won one against Mario Piazza and he came from two games to nil down by winning at ten in the fifth. Ramsbottom also added the doubles. Lawrence Paynter won two for the home team including a nail biting 12 in the fifth match against Tom and Anthony Vindice added one. Prestwich G beat BGSOB B 6-4 at home and it was the visitors who were always going to struggle on the night with two players. Bob Goodman won his customary three to share top spot in the averages with Peter Cantor who has lost more match than Bob. Reserve John Herman added two and Scott Hill the vital one for the win. John Greenhalgh won two for the visitors, John Rowlands one and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom TT Academy B improved on their away defeat 0-10 against Wardle by winning two sets which were both won by David Headley. The result could have been much closer when Domonic Siddall missed out of a win at four in the fifth against Harry Barlow and Daniel Allen did the same at seven in the fifth against Peter Ward. Peter and Harry each won two for the visitors, Jack Gratton won three and they won the doubles.

 

Closed Championships for 2011

The League Closed championships are being held on Sunday 20th March and not the 27th as in the handbook. It is being held at the Radclyffe School, Hunt Lane, Chadderton, Oldham. OL9 0LS. It is where the Oldham League has previously held their championships and is only 9 miles from the centre of Bury. Finals Night will be on Thursday14th April at Elton Sports Club. The events held will be Open Doubles, Over 40 veterans, over 60 veterans, Divisional Handicapped Singles, Open Singles and Open Juniors.  Entries on line at www.burytabletennis.org.uk
