DIVISION ONE
Prestwich B beat their C team 7-3 and Andy Evans, the first time in Division one is challenging for top spot in the averages. He won three, Bryan Beer two, Dave Bolton one and they won the doubles. Lee Devenport won two for the C team and Eddie Simon added one. Carlton Club A drew at home to Prestwich A. Ian Quinn won two for Carlton to keep him in contention for the top ten award. Kevin Chapman also won two and they won the doubles. David Pegg and Paul King each won two for Prestwich and David Cheetham won one. St.Philips was on the losing end of their home match against second placed team in the division Radcliffe Cricket Club who showed their superiority winning 10-0. Jim Chadwick, Mick Dore and Rob Hall were the unbeaten Radcliffe players.
DIVISION TWO
Maccabi A beat Holmar A 7-3 at home. Stuart Landes and Dean Clyne each won their three for Maccabi but reserve Marc Sheldon found the jump up a division and lost his three. David Fletcher, Ian McPherson and Phil Wardle each won one for the visitors. Prestwich E lost 1-9 at home to S.P.Carlton. Barrie Fleet for Prestwich won the sole set at eight in the third against John Biggins. Only the doubles went the distance which was won by the visitors at eight in the fifth. Tommy Ryan won his three for S.P. Carlton to keep his challenge alive for the top ten. Dave Holden also won his three to help his team also keep them close to promotion. ELPM A beat Prestwich D 7-3 at home. John Dawes and Paul Carter were the unbeaten players for ELPM. Steve Hathaway, Keith Butler and Joe Redikin for Prestwich all beat Ian Cockcroft to get their three wins.
DIVISION THREE
Seedfield B comprehensively beat
Shawfield B 9-1 at home. Alan Telfer lost his opening set of the night for
Seedfield at eight in the fifth against Wayne Ellis. Mike Charlton and Ian
Boyle were unbeaten for Seedfield plus they won the doubles. Elton Vale Sports
Club B had a closed match with serious promotion contenders Hilton YMCA and
they ended up just on the losing side 4-6. However David Hall for Elton
inflicted the first defeat of the season on Rob Bent for Hilton, winning at
nine in the fifth on his way to being unbeaten on the night. Jim Bollard added
one and John Dodd was very close to a win just losing at ten in the fifth to
Jim Hewitt. The doubles also went the way of the visitors which they won in a
marathon third game twenty two twenty. Rob Bent and Jim Hewitt each won two,
George Mather one and they won the doubles. Carol Mitchell from ELPM B
maintained her challenge for the top ten medal with three wins away to Maccabi
B but was pushed hard in two of her sets with all three going the distance. Her
opening set she won at nine in the fifth against Melvyne Leven. Carols last set
of the night was won at seven in the fifth against Robert Clayton. Gerry
Faulkner also won three for ELPM and Steve Greaves won one to lose a bit of
ground on the top ten challenge. Robert Clayton and Melvyne Levene each won one
for Maccabi plus they won the doubles at seven in the fourth. Shawfield A
thumped an understrength Seedfield C 10-0 at home with Terry Shaw, Phil Herd
and Paul Nutter being the unbeaten Shawfield players. Seedfield could only
field three players from the fifth division. Ramsbottom Town B beat Maccabi C
8-2 at home. Marc Sheldon won the two sets for Maccabi when he beat Joe Walk at
seven in the fifth and Roger Whewell at twelve in the fourth. Martin Ormsby was
the unbeaten Ramsbottom player.
DIVISION FOUR
Holmar C beat Maccabi E 6-4 at home. Roy Steventon won his three for Holmar, Jack Berry and Gerald Quemeneur each added one and they won the doubles. Peter Canter won two for Maccabi, Edward Freeman and Stuart Simpson each added one. Maccabi F beat an understrength Ramsbottom TT Academy A 10-0 at home. None of the regular junior Ramsbottom players were available so it was left to Dominic Siddall and Daniel Allen from the B team to do their best in a higher division. They managed to take some games off the Maccabi players, Alan and Jack Nesbitt and Yoni Morrison but the result was always going to favour Maccabi. Maccabi D beat Shawfield D 8-2 at home. Sheldon Lee led the way for Maccabi with three wins. He struggled in his first set which he won at two in the fifth against Alistair MacIver. His last set was an equal struggle which he took at seven in the fifth against Brian Philip. Aubrey Huller two as did new signing; returning from a stay in Spain was Daniel Sheldon who had two creditable wins. Brian Philip and Alistair MacIver each won one for Shawfield. Shawfield C drew at home with Bury Grammar School Old Boys A. Barry Warburton led the way for the visitors with three wins and Martyn Warburton added two. Ashley Ingham won two for Shawfield, Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster each added two and they won the doubles. Bob Goodman led the way for Prestwich G beating Holmar B with three wins. Ian Connell and Ian Ross each added two. John Millington was the only Holmar player to get on the score card with two wins and they won the doubles, just at seven in the fifth.
DIVISION FIVE
Seedfield D drew at home with Shawfield F. Scott Fleming won his three for Shawfield, Jason Wild added one and they won the doubles in a tight set at ten in the fifth. Ian McKenzie and Mike Ollerton each won two for Seedfield and Steve Greenall added one. Shawfield E beat Seedfield E 9-1 at home and James Collier of Shawfield keeps is chances of a top ten success alive with three wins. Peter Helmn also won three, Lauren Brassington two and they won the doubles. Andrew Wood won the sole set for Seedfield. Wardle Conservative Club lost 4-6 at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B. David Watts won his three for Wardle and only Harry Barlow could add to their tally with one more win. John Rowlands and John Greenhalgh each won two for Bury Grammar, Peter Metcalfe one and they took the vital doubles to ensure they won. ELPM D beat junior team Maccabi G 6-4 at home. Five of the ten sts went to five; three won by ELPM and two by Maccabi. Antony Vindice was the unbeaten home player, Mario Piazza won two and Lawrence Paynter one. Sam Ballin, Ashley Landes and Nathan Jacobs each won one for Maccabi and they won the doubles.
