DIVISION ONE

Little Lever registered a fine 9-1 win over Carlton A with Ron Durose, Steve McNicholas & Phil Riley each unbeaten.  Burning Desire won a close match 6-4 against St Philips A.  All 3 Burning Desire players, Ben Armstrong, Steve Barber & Andy Kaye, won 2 sets, whilst Denis Collier recorded 2 victories for St Philips.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich E and Seedfield B played out a hard fought draw with 6 sets going to a 5th game.  Andy Hamilton won 3 for Seedfield with Barrie Fleet winning 2 for Prestwich, all other players winning 1.  The top 2 clashed with Prestwich C emerging as 6-4 winners against Polish Catholic Club.  Eddie Kalinowski beat Top Ten Leader, Eddie Simon at 11-9 in the 5th.  Both players notched up 2 wins with Ian Byrne & Peader McKinstry also picking up 2 wins.  St Philips B had a resounding 8-2 win against Maccabi A, including a first defeat of the season for Stuart Landis of Maccabi at the hands of Gareth Palmer who went on to notch up 3 wins.  Both Dave Holden & John Biggins gave gareth valuable support with 2 wins each.  Carlton B ran out 7-3 winners against Prestwich D with Mark Reading winning 3 for the victors.  Both Jim Bloomfield (Carlton) & Alex Waring (Prestwich) won 2. 

 

DIVISION THREE

Frank Carse & Pete Ingham each won their 3 and Alan Carse picked up 2 as Seedfield C recorded a 9-1 against Hilton YMCA.  Terry Shaw won 3 for Shawfield A against Elton SC but it was not enough for his side as they went down 6-4.  Keith Mills & Jim Bollard each won 2 for Elton with a doubles victory being crucial.  St Sebastians beat Holmar A 6-4 with Dave Hargreaves winning 3.  With Dave Fletcher winning 2 for Holmar and teammates Phil Wardle & Ian McPherson both beating Alan Scholes, 2 wins for Mark Stevens plus a doubles victory gave St Sebastians the edge.  In a match where all players won at least once, Shawfield B were indebted to Wayne Ellis, 3 wins, & Dave Stubbington, 2 wins, for their 7-3 success. 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Maccabi D & Shawfield C drew with Ashley Ingham of Shawfield recording a fine win in the last set of the evening to secure his side the draw.  This was Ashley’s 3rd win  to offset 2 wins each for Maccabi by Buz Cohen & Marc Sheldon.  Another Shawfield team, their E, also drew with Seedfield E.  Jonathan Fitton (Seedfield) won his 3 with his teammate Ian Mckenzie adding 2.  Lauren Brassington won 2 for Shawfield.  Prestwich F got back to winning ways with an 8-2 win over Holmar C.  Ian Connell was unbeaten with Rod Hughes & Alistair Wakefield each adding 2.  Trevor Candler & Jack Berry each won 1 for Holmar.  Maccabi C secured a 7-3 win at Shawfield D.  Robert Clayton won 3, Frank Sheldon won 2 & reserve Alan Nesbitt won 1 for Maccabi.  Alistdair MacIver with 2 & Barry Collier with 1 were the winners for Shawfield. 

 

DIVISION FIVE

Maccabi E increased their lead at the top with an 8-2 win over their nearest challengers Wardle.  Bobby Lee was unbeaten with Peter Canter & Edward Freeman each contributing 2 wins.  Dave Watts won 2 for Wardle.  Holmar D won 8-2 against Shawfield G with Alan Fletcher winning his 3.  Gerald Quemeneur & David Bell each added 2 for Holmar.  James Aadachi & Michael Eaton each won 1 for Shawfield.  Andy Caunce with 3 and Anthony Vindice & Mario Piazza each with 2 guided ELPM D to an 8-2 victory over Ramsbottom Academy B.  BGSOB B, with 3 wins each for Graham Hilton, John Greenhalgh & John Rowlands, defeated Seedfield G 10-0.  Seedfield F won 7-3 against Shawfield F, with Mike Ollerton & Adam Simpson each winning 3.  Ramsbottom Academy A recorded 9-1 win over Holmar E.  Callum Stott & Nick Kroll were unbeaten with Tom Warburton picking up 2.  Nigel Shaw picked up Holmar’s sole victory.
