DIVISION ONE
Seedfield Methodists A had an easier match against BAE who only had two players. David Poytress won three for Seedfield, Peter Mears two and Andy Hamilton one plus they won a very tight doubles at ten in the fifth. Pete Bradford won two for BAE and Ian Gerrard one. Prestwich C beat Carlton Club A 8-2 at home. Andy Evans for Prestwich was the unbeaten player on the night. Dave Bolton and Eddie Simon each added two and they won the doubles. Only Ian Quinn could get on the score card with two wins. Prestwich A drew at home to Maccabi A. Duncan Hadfield and Mohammed Sagied each won two for Prestwich and Colin Boardman added one but it was Louis Rosenthal for the visitors who was unbeaten. Stuart Landes added one and they won the doubles. Little Lever are without Ronnie Durose for a few weeks because of a leg injury. Phil Riley and Dennis Collier each won two for the home side, Lee Devenport one and they won the doubles against Prestwich B. David Pegg won two for the visitors, Rob Belli and Mohammed Sagied each added one. Radcliffe beat Burning Desire 8-2 at home. Jim Chadwick was unbeaten for the home side, Rob Hall and Larry Bainbridge each added two and they won the doubles. Steve barber and Ben Armstrong each won one for Burning Desire. Ramsbottom Town A were just too strong for their B team winning 10-0. Andy Jackson retained top spot in the averages with three wins and assisted by Mark Ramsbottom and Graham Young kept the team at the top of the division.
DIVISION TWO
Despite a Division three reserve Carlton Club B came out on top with a 9-1 win at home against Carlton Vale. Only Chris Sutcliffe could record a win for the visitors’ when he beat reserve Steve Evans. Tommy Ryan and John Biggins were the unbeaten home side players though Steve Morris for Carlton took Tommy to a fifth set and eventually won at four in the fifth. Steve was leading two games to one and had his chances in the fourth game but lost it fourteen sixteen. John Biggins was taken to a fifth game also against Dave Jackson which he eventually won eleven seven. Carlton won the doubles in a very tight set at ten in the fifth. Prestwich D were too good for visitors Seedfield B beating them 10-0. Peadar McKinstry, Gabriel Wilding and Bryan Beer were the unbeaten Prestwich players. ELPM A beat Prestwich F 7-3 at home. Ian Cockcroft led the way for the home side with three wins, Dave Varney won two, Gillian Marsden one and they won the doubles. Mike Dunn won two for Prestwich and Rob Lee one. Carlton Club C beat Prestwich 8-2 at home. Jim Bloomfield was unbeaten for Carlton with Mark Reading and John Foster each adding two plus the doubles. Steve Hathaway won both sets for Prestwich.
DIVISION THREE
David Hall and Jim Bollard led the way for home side being unbeaten in Elton Vale B’s 7-3 win. John Dodd added the other win. Ian Wheeldon along with new signing Tom Warburton who played the in junior Ramsbottom Academy team last season each won one. Making up the team was David Cain who was a player from the League many years ago but in his opening match found the opposition too good on the night. Ramsbottom won the doubles. Prestwich G beat ELPM B 6-4 at home and Paul Rourke was the unbeaten home player. Alistair Wakefield added two and Rod Hughes one. Carol Mitchell won two for ELPM, Steve Greaves one and they won the doubles. Maccabi C beat their B team 7-3 and Daniel Sheldon was the unbeaten player for the C team. Mark Sheldon and Sheldon Lee each added two. Alan Meltzer was the only player to score for the B team with two wins plus they won the doubles. Shawfield A lost 3-7 at home against Holmar A despite Dave Stubbington being unbeaten for the home side. Dave was the only player to register any wins for Shawfield. David Fletcher, Phil Wardle and Trevor Candler each won two for Holmar and they won the doubles.
DIVISION FOUR
Seedfield C beat Shawfield D 6-4 at home. Stephen Siddall was the unbeaten player on the night for the home side. Phil Cooper won two and they won the doubles. Reserve Ian McKenzie lost at five in the fifth against Brian Philip who won one for Shawfield as did Alistair McIver and Barry Collier two. Maccabi D lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich H. Bob Goodman and Joe Walk were unbeaten for Prestwich and they narrowly missed the doubles losing at seven in the fifth. The only other set which went the distance was when Frank Sheldon lost at seven in the fifth to Joe. Frank, Aubrey Huller and Buz Cohen each won one for Maccabi. Holmar B lost 4-6 at home to ELPM C. Debbie Wilson is finding good form in her return to the League after many years absence and was unbeaten for ELPM. The opening set of the night was won at seven in the fifth by Debbie playing Alan Hibbert who failed to get on the card for Holmar. Harry Uren won two for ELPM and John Edge added the other win. John Millington won two for Holmar and Royston Steventon one. Shawfield E drew at home to Holmar C. James Collier won two for the home side, Lauren Brassington and Peter Helmn each added one and they won the doubles. David Bell and Gary Bolton each won two for Holmar and Jack Berry added one. Shawfield C dug out a 6-4 win at home after it was four each with the last two sets to play. Phil Herd for Shawfield beat Tim Hope at thirteen in the fourth to get to five four then Terry Shaw had a fine win over Barry Warburton at nine in the fourth to give Shawfield the victory. Phil and Terry each won two, Paul Nutter added one and they won the doubles comfortably at six in the third.
DIVISION FIVE
Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat junior team Maccabi F 6-4 at home. John Greenhalgh won three for the home side, Graham Hilton two and they won the doubles. Adam Gilman won two for Maccabi with Daniel Olsberg and Selwyn Burton each adding one. Wardle B lost 0-10 to their A team. David Watts, Jack Gratton and Harry Barlow were the unbeaten A team players. ELPM D beat Shawfield F 8-3 at home. Lawrence Paynter and Mario Piazza were unbeaten for the home side and Anthony Vindice added two. Jason Wild won one for Shawfield and they won the doubles. Junior team Ramsbottom Academy drew at home to Seedfield D and Dominic Siddall led the way for Ramsbottom with three wins to keep him top of the averages. Eleven year old Harry Bell had a fine win against Steve Greenall at nine in the fourth and Harry and Dominic combined forces in the doubles to win a tight set at eight in the fifth. Mike Ollerton and Ian McKenzie each won two for Seedfield and Steve one.
