Division 1

Seedfield A lost 2-8 at home to Carlton Club A and it was David Poytress who won the solitary set for the home team when he beat John Bradbury at three in the forth. Seedfield also won the doubles at six in the forth. Ian Quinn and Gary Newton were unbeaten for Carlton. Little Lever beat St.Philips A 7-3 at home and Ronnie Durose and Phil Riley were the unbeaten players for the home team. Second placed Radcliffe was held to a draw away at Burning Desire. Current Bury League Champion Graham Jeffries was unbeaten for the visitors with Rob Hall and Mick Dore each adding one. Ben Armstrong and Steve Barber each won two for the home team. Adelphi lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich A but it was Tommy Ryan who was unbeaten on the night for Adelphi. Lee Devenport added the other win. David Pegg and Dave Bolton each won two for Prestwich, Steve Hathaway one and they added the doubles.

 

Division 2

Prestwich E with two reserves beat and under strength Maccabi A 10-0 at home. Barrie Fleet, Andy Battersby and Alistair Wakefield were the unbeaten players on the night. Polish Catholic Club beat ELPM A 9-1 at home. Mick Hill, Ian Byrne and Eddie Kalinowski were unbeaten for the home team which just left the doubles which the visitors took. Carlton Club B lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich B though it was Mark Reading for the home team who was unbeaten. Only John Foster could add to the home teams score with one win. Andy Evans and Bryan Beer each won two for the visitors, Dave Bolton one and the added the doubles. St.Philips B lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich C and the early stages of the match looked like to be a close contest. At two sets each the visitors reeled off the next five sets before Gareth Palmer had a fine win at nine in the forth over top of the averages Eddie Simon. Gareth won two on the night and Dave Holden added one. John Biggins for the home team lost at ten in the fifth against Peadar McKinstry. Peadar, Eddie and Joe Redikin each won two on the night plus the doubles. Chris Sutcliffe for Stand was unbeaten on the night in their draw at home with Seedfield B. Dave Jackson added two for the home team. Reserve Mike Charlton won two for Seedfield, Julian Nuttall and Andy Hamilton one each plus the doubles.

 

Division 3

Seedfield C drew at home with Holmar A. Frank Carse won his three for the home team including a win at thirteen in the fifth against Phil Wardle. Frank also took the set against David Fletcher at seven in the fifth and his opening set of the night at five in the fifth against Ian McPherson. Mike Charlton added two for Seedfield. Phil Wardle won two for the visitors with Ian McPherson and David Fletcher adding one each and they won the doubles. St.Sebastians lost 2-8 at home to Elton Vale TTC but the surprise of the night was Graham Daniels loss to Mark Stevens which was only his fifth of the season. Dave Stevens won the two sets for the home team. Mark Craven won his three for the visitors, Graham Daniels and Mike Nicholls each won two and they won the doubles. ELPM B crushed Seedfield D 9-1 at home and it was Alan Telfer for the visitors that saved the whitewash when he beat Steve Greaves. Mark Willmore and Paul Carter were unbeaten on the night and they added the doubles. ELPM have three matches in hand and look at least to be threatening second spot which is currently held by Holmar A. Shawfield B beat Hilton YMCA 10-0 and it was Wayne Ellis, Dave Stubbington and Ernie Watkins who did the damage for the home side and they added the doubles. Elton Vale Sorts Club beat ELPM C 10-0 and look set for play in division four next season. Dave and Rodney Hall plus Keith Mills were the unbeaten players for the home side.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Division 4

Seedfield E lost 1-9 at home and Jonathan Fitton took the sole set from Carlton Club C off Clive Roberts at eight in the forth. John Bostock and Keith Cheyne were unbeaten for the visitors. Prestwich F beat Shawfield C 7-3 at home and it was Paul Rourke for the home team who led the way being unbeaten. Rod Hughes and Alistair Wakefield each added two. Shawfield though ahead of Prestwich in the tables had to be content with two wins from Peter Gregory and the doubles. Shawfield D beat their E team 9-1 and it was Lauren Brassington who saved the day for the E team beating Andrew Ingham. Barry Collier and Alistair McIver were unbeaten on the night and they won the doubles. Unless the E team have some very good results in the last few matches they look set for relegation. At the other end of the table Maccabi C beat their D team to keep the C teams hopes alive for promotion next season. Robert Clayton was unbeaten on the night for the C team, Frank Sheldon and Les Suss each added two and they won the doubles in three straight games. Three of the four sets that went to five went the way of the C team. Buz Cohen beat Les Suss at eight in the fifth for his one win and Marc Sheldon beat his Dad at ten in the forth. Ramsbottom Town D beat Holmar C 7-3 at home and Roger Whewell led the way with three wins for the home side, Paul Wood, two, Chris Leaves one and they added the doubles. Ian Ferrari, Jack Berry and reserve Gerald Quemeneur won one each for the visitors.

 

 

 

Division 5

Maccabi E played their match against Holmar E earlier this year and won 10-0. Peter Canter, Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman were the unbeaten players for Maccabi and are well clear at the top of the division looking like promotion candidates to division four next season. Holmar D lost 3-7 at home to promotion contenders Maccabi F. Alan Fletcher, David Bell and Gerald Quemeneur each won one for the home team. Alan Nesbitt was unbeaten for Maccabi; Jack Nesbitt won two, Yoni Morrison one and the doubles. Prestwich G beat Seedfield F 8-2 to make the top of the table very interesting to see who wins the promotion spots. Bob Goodman and John Herman were unbeaten for Prestwich with Scott Hill adding one plus the doubles. Mike Ollerton won one for the visitors as did Dave Tarver who was close to winning two when he took John Herman to five and just loosing at seven in the fifth. Shawfield F beat Ramsbottom TT Academy B 8-2 at home and it was Peter Helmn and Scott Fleming who were unbeaten for the home team with Jason Wild adding one and the doubles. David Headley and Domonic Siddall each won one for the visitors. Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat Wardle 8-2 at home. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh were unbeaten for the home team; John Rowlands added one and the doubles. David Watts and Paul Ward each won one for Wardle. Ramsbottom Academy A won 10-0 at home to Shawfield G and it was Callum Stott, Nick Kroll and Tom Warburton who were the unbeaten players on the night. ELPM D also won 10-0 against Seedfield G and the unbeaten players were Lawrence Paynter, Antony Vindice and Mario Piazza.

 

Closed Championships for 2011

The League Closed championships are being held on Sunday 20th March and not the 27th as in the handbook. It is being held at the Radclyffe School, Hunt Lane, Chadderton, Oldham. OL9 0LS. It is where the Oldham League has previously held their championships and is only 9 miles from the centre of Bury. Finals Night will be on Thursday14th April at Elton Sports Club. The events held will be Open Doubles, Over 40 veterans, over 60 veterans, Divisional Handicapped Singles, Open Singles and Open Juniors.  Entries on line at www.burytabletennis.org.uk
