DIVISION ONE
Seedfield Methodists A drew at home to Prestwich B. Only two sets went the distance. The opening set was won at seven in the fifth by David Poytress for the home team when he beat Paul King of Prestwich. Paul King then played Peter Mears in the next to the last set of the night and the set was won by Paul also at seven in the fifth. Rob Belli for Prestwich had a fine win and his only win in the last set of the night when he beat David Poytress convincingly in three straight. Paul King at Colin Boardman each won two for Prestwich. David Poytress won two for Seedfield, Peter Mears and Julian Nuttall each won one and they won the doubles quite easily in three straight. Maccabi A lost 2-8 to divisional leaders Ramsbottom Town A who increased their lead at the top of the division and Andy Jacksons three wins for Ramsbottom increased his lead in the top ten over Louis Rosenthal for Maccabi who lost to both Andy Jackson and seven times Bury Men’s Champion Mick Moir who made only his fourth appearance so far this season. Maccabi did manage to win the doubles which for Ramsbottom was only their second defeat this season. Maccabi’s other point came from Louis Rosenthal who beat Mark Ramsbottom. Ramsbottom B lost 2-8 at home to Radcliffe CC. Graham Jeffries and Rob Hall were unbeaten for Radcliffe, Mick Dore added one and they won the doubles. Graham Hoy and Terry Taylor each beat Mick for Ramsbottoms two points. Prestwich A beat Carlton Club A 7-3 at home. Ian McLean was unbeaten for Prestwich, Paul King added two, Nathan Buckley one and they won the doubles. Barry Elliot won two for Carlton and Ian Quinn one. Andy Evans and Dave Bolton each beat Lee for their two points for Prestwich. BAE beat Burning Desire 8-2 at home. Tom Lang and Tony Bates were unbeaten and Tony Vaughan added two. Brett Haslam won one for Burning Desire and also won the doubles.
DIVISION TWO
Carlton Club B beat Prestwich E 6-4 at home. Tommy Ryan was the unbeaten player on the night for the home team but was made to fight hard in his last set of the night where Steve Hathaway lost at six in the fifth to give Tommy his three wins and keeps him in touch in second place in the top ten. John Biggins for the home team went the distance with Joe Redikin and it was Joe who only just won at eleven in the fifth. The final set to go the distance was Dave Holden for the home side against Steve Hathaway and Steve won easily at two in the fifth. Dave and John each added one to Tommy’s three and they won the doubles quite comfortably in three. Joe Redikin won two for the visitors and Keith Butler and Steve each added one. Dave Jackson was on top form for Carlton Vale in their draw at home to Prestwich F. Chris Sutcliffe added the other two wins. Alex Waring won two for the visitors, Mike Dunn and Rob Lee each added one and they won the doubles. Elton Vale Sports Club A lost 4-6 at home to Polish Catholic Club despite Graham Daniels being unbeaten for the home side. Only Martin Nichols could add to the score with one win. Eddie Kalinowski and Peter Hill each won two for Polish, Eddie Robakowski one and they won the doubles. Prestwich D showed why they are top of the division winning at home this week 9-1 against Carlton Club C. Mark Reading saved the whitewash for Carlton when he beat Bryan Beer. Top Ten leader Gabriel Wilding and Peadar McKinstry were the unbeaten Prestwich players.
DIVISION THREE
ELPM B beat Maccabi B 6-4 at home and Gerry Faulkner led the way for the home side with three wins, Steve Greaves and Carol Mitchell each added one and they won the doubles. Daniel Sheldon won two for Maccabi and the Roberts Williams and Clayton each added one. Maccabi’s C team also lost this time they were at home to Elton Vale B who won 7-3. David Hall and Frank Green each led the way with three wins; Jim Bollard added the other one. Daniel Sheldon and Sheldon Lee each won one and they won the doubles. Prestwich G lost 4-6 at home to Carlton Club D. Steve Evans and John Bostock were unbeaten for Carlton. Paul Rourke, Alistair Wakefield and Rod Hall for Prestwich each beat Keith Cheyne and Prestwich won the doubles. Shawfield B drew at home to Ramsbottom Town C. Ashley Ingham was unbeaten for Shawfield, Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster each added one. Martin Ormsby and Ian Wheeldon each won two for the visitors and they won the doubles.
DIVISION FOUR
Holmar B faced their C team and Alan Hibbert and John Millington were unstoppable for the B team each winning three. Royston Steventon had a bad night and was without a win and being beaten by David Bell, Trevor Candler and Gary Bolton of the C team. They also added the doubles. Seedfield C drew at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys A. Alistair McKernan was in top form for Seedfield winning all his three which included a win at eight in the fifth in the last set of the night against Andy Evans. The doubles was the only other set to go the distance but was won this time by the visitors at four in the fifth. Phil Cooper and Jonathan Fitton each added one for the home team. Andy Evans and reserve John Greenhalgh each had two wins and Martyn Warburton won one. Shawfield E lost 1-9 at home to their C team. Only James Collier could get on the score card for the home side with a win against Phil Herd. Terry Shaw and Paul Nutter were unbeaten for the C team and they won the doubles. ELPM C lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi E and it was Jack Nesbitt who led the way for the visitors with three wins. Peter Canter added two and Edward Freeman one. Harry Uren won two for the home side, John Edge one and they won the doubles. Bob Goodman kept his lead in the top ten and his team, Prestwich H in second spot when he won his customary three away against Shawfield D. Joe Walk added two and they won the doubles. Brian Philip won two for Shawfield, Barry Collier and Alistair McIver added one each.
DIVISION FIVE
Bury Grammar School Old Boys B beat Seedfield D 7-3 at home. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh were unbeaten for the home side and John Rowlands added one. Mike Ollerton and Adam Simpson each beat John Rowlands and they won the doubles. Dominic Siddall won his three for Ramsbottom Academy but only twelve year old Harry Bell could add to his wins with one against Seedfield E. The other junior in the team, also twelve, Adam Kensitt was close but just couldn’t manage a win. Jim Murray and Graham Wright each won two for Seedfield E, Barry Simpson one and they won the doubles for their first win of the season. Another junior team, Maccabi F beat Wardle A but none could beat David Watts who won his three for Wardle, their only wins. Adam Gilman, Nathan Jacobs and Daniel Olsberg each won two for the home side and they won the doubles.
