DIVISION ONE
Radcliffe CC beat Burning Desire 8-2 and it was Rob Hall and Graham Jeffries who led the way with three wins each, Mick Dore added one and they won the doubles. Steve Barber and Ben Armstrong each won one for the losers. Carlton Club A lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich B. Andy Evans was unbeaten for the visitors, Dave Bolton added tow and they won the doubles to get the win. Ian Quinn won two for Carlton to keep his challenges going for top of the averages, Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each added one. St.Philips lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich A. Dennis Collier won two for the home side, Dave Smith one and they won the doubles. Dave Cheetham was unbeaten for Prestwich, Colin Boardman added two, Paul King one.
DIVISION TWO
Holmar A lost 1-9 at home and it was Phil Wardle who won the only set for the home team when he beat Julian Nuttall. David Poytress and Peter Mears were the unbeaten Seedfield players. Despite Eddie Kalinowski being unbeaten his team Polish Catholic Club could not help him and they lost 3-7 away to ELPM A. John Dawes, Paul Carter and Ian Cockcroft each won two for the home side and they won the doubles. Prestwich E beat Carlton Vale 7-3 at home but it was Chris Sutcliffe for the visitors who were unbeaten on the night. His team names could not add to his tally though they were close. In the opening set Alex Waring for Prestwich just got the better of Steve Morris at six in the fifth. Barrie Fleet for Prestwich just beat Dave Jackson at nine in the fifth and Prestwich also took the doubles at two in the fifth. Alex Waring, Barrie Fleet and Ken Crimes each won two for Prestwich. Carlton Club B drew at home to Prestwich D. Jim Bloomfield and Mark Reading each won two and John Foster on. Steve Hathaway won two for the visitors, Keith Butler and Joe Redikin one each and they won the doubles. Maccabi A beat S.P.Carlton 8-2 at home and Stuart Landes was the home side’s unbeaten player, Dean Clyne and Alan Meltzer each added two and they won the doubles. Tommy Ryan won the two sets for the visitors.
DIVISION THREE
Carlton Club C lost 4-6 at home to ELPM B, a reversal of their result in the first half of the season. Despite three wins from John Bostock only Steve Evans could add to their winning tally with one win. Carol Mitchell and Gerry Faulkner each won two for the visitors, Steve Greaves one and they won the all-important doubles to get the win. Seedfield B lost 2-8 at home to Elton Vale Sports Club B. Alan Telfer was the only home side player with a win when he beat Keith Mills at twelve in the forth in the opening set of the night. Seedfield also won the doubles at three in the fifth. Father and son Rodney and David Hall each won their three for Elton and Keith Mills added two. Ramsbottom Town B lost 3-7 at home to Hilton YMCA. Only Martin Ormsby managed to get on the score card for Ramsbottom with two wins and they took the doubles at five in the fifth. Martin won at eleven in the forth to Jim Hewitt and three in the forth to Mark Speakman. Bob Bent was unbeaten for Hilton.
DIVISION FOUR
Maccabi F drew with their E team which was a change to their 9-1 dominance in the first match of the season. Yoni Morrison won two for the F team, Alan and Jack Nesbitt each won one and they won the doubles. Edward Freeman and Peter Canter each won two for the E team and Stuart Simpson one. Holmar B drew at home with Bury Grammar School Old Boys A. Trevor Candler won two for the home side, Alan Hibbert and Royston Steventon each added one and the won the doubles. Only four sets went to more than four games and those were shared at two each. Barry Warburton was unbeaten on the night for Bury grammar and division five reserve John Greenhalgh won two. Division leaders almost likely extended their lead with a comprehensive 9-1 win against Shawfield D. That result was despite the absence of Alistair Wakefield. Reserve Ian Ross took his place and won his three. Three sets went to five and were all won by Prestwich. The doubles was won at three in the fifth. Andrew Ingham for Shawfield just beat Rod Hughes at nine in the fifth. Prestwich reserve Ian Ross beat Barry Collier at seven in the fifth. Shawfield C overwhelmed junior team, Ramsbottom TT Academy 8-2. Shawfield reeled off the first five sets in quick succession before Ramsbottom could register a win in the doubles at ten in the fifth. Having won the first two games nine and five it looked like an easy three game win but Shawfield hit back in the next two at eight and seven before the nail-biting fifth. Tom Warburton for Ramsbottom took Andrew Webster to five but lost out at three in the fifth. Two other sets went to four and both won by Shawfield. Callum Stott rescued another point when he beat Andrew Webster in three straight. Ashley Ingham and Peter Gregory each won three for Shawfield. Sheldon Lee was on top form for Maccabi B being unbeaten against Holmar C and they won 7-3 at home. Buz Cohen added two, Aubrey Huller one and they won the doubles in three straight. Roy Steventon won two for Holmar, his first of the night at eight in the fifth and his second against Aubrey in three tight games. Jack Berry added one in the opening set of the night against Aubrey.
DIVISION FIVE
Seedfield Methodists D lost 2-8 at home to Holmar D. Mike Ollerton won one set at four in the third against Gary Bolton and his second set was a concession after the first game by Alan Fletcher. Alan won his two other sets, Gary Bolton won two but divisional leader David Bell was unbeaten. Shawfield E beat Maccabi G 8-2 at home. James Collier was unbeaten for Shawfield against junior team Maccabi G to keep his joint lead at the top of the averages with David Bell of Holmar D. Peter Helmn and Lauren Brassington each added two and they won the doubles. Sam Ballin and Ashley Landes each won one for Maccabi. Bury Grammar School Old Boys b beat Seedfield E 8-2 at home. The John’s Greenhalgh and Rowlands each won three for Bury Grammar, Peter Metcalfe added one and they won the doubles. Graham Wright and Andrew Wood each won one for Seedfield. Wardle Conservative Club beat Holmar E 7-3 at home. David Watts and Jack Gratton were unbeaten for wardle and they won the doubles. Nigel Shaw, John Heyes and Graham Wardle each won one for Holmar. Junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy struggled against Shawfield F and it was left to Dominic Siddall to post their only win at five in the forth. He narrowly lost the last set of the night at eleven in the fifth. Amelia Behrens also came close and lost at seven in the fifth against Scott Fleming. Jason Wild and Scott Fleming were Shawfield’s unbeaten players. ELPM D just beat junior team Shawfield G 6-4 at home when Lawrence Paynter for the home side took the last set of the night at nine in the fourth against Sam Burgoyne. Lawrence just pipped Josh Fallows at twelve in the fifth. Anthony Vindice added two for ELPM and they won the doubles at four in the fourth. Sam Burgoyne won two for Shawfield Dean Walmersley and Josh Fallows one each.
