DIVISION ONE

Radcliffe CC, runners up for the past few years started their season in good style with a convincing 9-1 win at home to Burning Desire. Nigel Hallows and Wayne Renton led the way with three wins, Mick Dore two and they won the doubles. Steve Barber was the only player for the visitors who was able to score a win. Prestwich B got off to a tough start in their first season in division 1 and lost 3-7 at home to Carlton Club A. Andy Evans won two for the home team and Bryan Beer one though Dave Bolton went to five in all three of his matches to end up without a win. The doubles also when to five but the visitors won. Phil Myers was on top form for the visitors with three wins, Ian Quinn added two and Gary Newton one. Prestwich A won 6-4 at home to St.Philips but none of the home team players could get the better of Dennis Collier who won all of his three for the visitors. Clive Taylor added their other win. Dave Cheetham and Duncan Hadfield each won two for Prestwich, Dave Pegg one and they took the doubles.

 

DIVISION TWO

Holmar A started their season in a higher division facing Seedfield A who are always promotion contenders and were in fact in Division 1 last season. A tough initiation to this higher standard and David Poytress led the way for Seedfield with three wins, Peter Mears and Julian Nuttall two each and they won the doubles for an 8-2 winning score line. Phil Wardle for the visitors had one win on the night against Peter Mears at three in the fifth and narrowly losing against Julian Nuttall at nine in the fifth. Ian McPherson also had a win at six in the fifth against Julian Nuttall. Prestwich D beat Carlton B 7-3 at home and Keith Butler led the way with three wins for the home team. An under the weather Steve Hathaway won two as did Joe Redikin. Mark Reading and John Foster each won one for the visitors. Mark was disappointed to let a two games lead slip when he played Keith Butler. Carlton snatched the doubles away from Prestwich after they went two games ahead and eventually lost at nine in the fifth to gain Carlton the extra point. S.P.Carlton, formerly St.Philips B beat an under strength Maccabi A 7-3 at home where Gareth Palmer was in top form winning all of his three matches with Dave Scowcroft and Dave Holden each adding two. Dean Clyne made a welcome return after a long illness and won one for Maccabi beating Dave Holden at five in the forth. Reserve Robert Clayton had a fine win at ten in the forth against Dave Scowcroft and Maccabi won the doubles in three straight.

 

DIVISION THREE

Elton Vale B beat Seedfield B 6-4 at home to Seedfield B and it was reserve Deo Jones for the visitors who was unbeaten on the night and they could only add the doubles. Frank Green, Keith Mills and John Dodd each won two for Elton Vale. Dave Stubbington was the unbeaten player for Shawfield B but still finished on the losing side when Maccabi B beat them 6-4 at home. Ernie Watkins added the other win for Shawfield when he beat reserve Yoni Morrison at six in the fifth. The doubles was a very close set which eventually the way of Maccabi at six in the fifth. Another close set was Bob Mitchell playing Robert Williams and Williams won at nine in the fifth to be one of his two wins on the night. Yoni Morrison won two for Maccabi. ELPM B started their first match of the season by losing the first five sets but eventually clawed the match back to lose 4-6 at home to promoted Carlton Club C. Steve Evans was unbeaten on the night for Carlton, Keith Cheyne two and John Bostock one. Carol Mitchell for ELPM just missed out on winning three when she lost at three in the fifth to unbeaten Evans. Steve Greaves won one and narrowly lost at ten in the fifth to John Bostock plus they won the doubles. Hilton YMCA lost 3-7 at home to Ramsbottom Town B. Alan Cowley was unbeaten for Hilton. Joe Walk, Tim Fields and Roger Whewell each won two for the visitors plus they won the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

The battle of existing Division four Maccabi E team took on their newly promoted F team who had an overwhelming 9-1 win to start their new division campaign. Alan Nesbit and Yoni Morrison were unbeaten for the F team, Jack Nesbit added two and they won the doubles. Bobby Lee was the only E team player to register a win which was over Jack Nesbit at nine in the forth. Edward Freeman for the E team took Alan Nesbit very close and only lost at twelve in the fifth. The doubles was close encounter but the F team took control in the last game to win eleven four. Bobby Lee for the E team lost at five in the fifth against Yoni Morrison. Holmar B was away to BGSOB and won 8-2. Trevor Candler was unbeaten for Holmar, Alan Hibbert and Ian Ferrari each added two and they won the doubles. Barry Warburton was the only home team player to get on the score card with two wins though his opening set of the night was close and just lost out at nine in the fifth to the unbeaten Candler. The doubles was a tight match and Holmar won that at eight in the fifth. Martyn Warburton for the home team just lost out at seven in the fifth against Ian Ferrari. Holmar C lost 3-7 at home to Maccabi D. Buz Cohen and Sheldon Lee was unbeaten for Maccabi D plus they won the doubles. Roy Steventon, Jack Berry and Gerald Quemeneur who has moved up from division five this season each won one for the home side. ELPM C had only two players and lost 2-8 at home to promoted team Prestwich G where Bob Goodman and Ian Ross were unbeaten for the visitors, Scott Hill added one and they won the doubles. Andy Caunce and Harry Uren each won one for the home team. Promoted Junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy B got off to a slow start at home to Shawfield C by losing the first three sets Charlie McGrath for the home team got their first point when be beat Peter Gregory at eight in the fifth. Charlie also beat Andrew Webster for his second win of the match. The home team won the doubles in three straight and won the following two sets including Tom Warburton winning his only set of the night at ten in the fifth against Roger Snowdon to draw level at four each. Experience showed and Shawfield won the last two sets to win 6-4. Roger Snowden, Peter Gregory and Andrew Webster each won two on the night for the visitors. Shawfield D lost 0-10 at home to Prestwich F where Paul Rourke, Alistair Wakefield and Rod Hughes all won their three for the visitors.

 

DIVISION FIVE

New signing Deo Woods had three fine wins to open his account with Seedfield E but his team lost 4-6 at home to BGSOB B. Seedfield added the doubles to their wins. Graham Hilton, John Greenhalgh and John Rowlands each won two for the visitors. Holmar E lost 4-6 at home to Wardle. Nigel Shaw and John Heyes each won two for Holmar. The last set of the night between John Heyes for Holmar and David Watts for Wardle and in a tight match David eventually won at two in the fifth to give Wardle the win. David Watts was unbeaten on the night, Peter Ward and Jack Gratton each added one and they won the doubles. Holmar D beat Seedfield D 8-2 at home. David Bell for the home team won his three, Alan Fletcher and Gary Bolton each won two plus they won the doubles. Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall each won one for the visitors. Maccabi G fielded three new players to the League and Sam Ballin had two wins for their only points at home against a more experienced Shawfield E. James Collier was unbeaten for Shawfield, Peter Helm and Lauren Brassington each added two and they won the doubles at six in the fifth. Juniors from Shawfield G managed just one point on the night when Joshua Fallows beat Mario Piazza from ELPM D. Antony Vindice and Lawrence Paynter each won their three for the visitors plus they won the doubles. Shawfield F drew at home with another junior team; Ramsbottom TT Academy B. Ben Duffy for the visitors was unbeaten on the night which included a win at fourteen in the fifth in his opening match against Scott Fleming.  Dominic Siddall and Olivia Wallis each added one for the visitors. Jason Wild and Scott Fleming each won two for Shawfield plus they won the doubles.
