DIVISION ONE

Radcliffe CC showed why they are second in the division when they overpowered Prestwich B 10-0 at home. The unbeaten players were Rob Hall, Nigel Hallows and Mick Dore. Ramsbottom Town A beat Little Lever 7-3 at home. Andrew Jackson won his three for Ramsbottom to keep a hold on his top position in the averages. Mick Moir also won his three and they won the doubles. Ronnie Durose, Phil Riley and Steve McNicholas for Little Lever all beat Graham Young. Burning Desire lost 4-6 at home to Prestwich A. Colin Boardman was unbeaten for Prestwich, David Pegg added two and Dave Cheetham one. Steve Barber won two for Burning Desire, Andy Kaye one and they won the doubles. BAE beat Carlton Club A 7-3 at home and Tony Bates led the way with three wins. Tom Lang won two Tony Smith one and he had to concede his last set with Phil Myers because of illness. As to be expected for the two times Bury doubles Champions they also won these doubles though they have lost three times this season. Ramsbottom Town A have lost their doubles just twice this season. Ian Quinn, Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each won one for Carlton.

 

DIVISION TWO

Seedfield Methodists beat Polish Catholic Club 10-0 at home and the regulars, David Poytress, Peter Mears and Julian Nuttall were the unbeaten players for Seedfield. Eddie Kalinowski for Polish narrowly lost at ten in the fifth against Julian Nuttall. Eddie also went to five against Peter Mears and lost that at five in the fifth. Ian Byrne for Polish lost at five in the fifth against Peter Mears. S.P.Carlton beat Carlton Vale 7-3 at home but none of the home team could beat Chris Sutcliffe. Tommy Ryan came the closest losing at nine in the fifth in the last set of the night. John Biggins took Chris to a fifth game but lost five eleven. In the opening set Tommy went to the fifth set against Dave Jackson before closing it out eleven seven. Dave Holden for S.P.Carlton had a tussle with Steve Morris but eventually won eleven three in the fifth. Holmar A lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich D. Steve Hathaway was the unbeaten player on the night for Prestwich, division four reserve Alistair Wakefield had two fine wins, Mohammed Sagied added one and they won the doubles. Phil Wardle won two for Holmar and division four reserve Royston Steventon added one. Maccabi A beat Elton Vale Sports Club A 8-2 at home. Dean Clynes and Stuart Landes each won three for Maccabi, Alan Meltzer won one and they won the doubles. Graham Daniels and Marin Nicholls each won one for Elton. Prestwich E beat two man team ELPM A 7-3 at home. Mohammed Sagied won his three for Prestwich, Barrie Fleet won two, Alex Waring one and they won the doubles. Paul Carter won two for ELPM and John Dawes one though he had a close match against Barrie losing at ten in the fifth. John also lost at nine in the fifth against Mohammed.

 

DIVISION THREE

Carlton Club C drew at home to Elton Vale Sports Club B and Steve Evans was unbeaten for Carlton. John Bostock added two. Keith Mills won two for Elton, John Dodd and Jim Ballard each won one and they won the doubles. Hilton YMCA beat Seedfield Methodists 8-2 away. Phil Cooper for Seedfield beat George Mather at four in the fifth and Seedfield other win came from the retirement of Mark Speakman for Hilton against Jonathan Fitton. Jim Hewitt was unbeaten for Hilton to keep up his challenge for the top ten spot. ELPM B won 7-3 at home to Shawfield B though none of the winning team could get the better of Wayne Ellis who won his three for Shawfield. Steve Greaves, Carol Mitchell and Gerry Faulkner each won two and they won the doubles. Maccabi B drew at home with Ramsbottom B. Martin Ormsby won his three for Ramsbottom and Joe Walk added two. Unusually Roger Whewell failed to get on the score card. Robert Clayton won two for Maccabi, Melvyne Levene and Robert Williams each added one and they won the doubles comfortably in three. Only five sets went to four, Ramsbottom winning three of them. Shawfield A got hammered at home to Seedfield B. Terry Shaw avoided the white wash for Shawfield when he beat Ian Boyle at nine in the fourth. Only the first set went to five which Alan Telfer won at eight over Terry Shaw.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat Maccabi E 9-1 at home. Peter Canter won the sole set for Maccabi when he beat Martyn Warburton. Barry Warburton and Andy Evans each won their three for Bury Grammar and they won the doubles. Prestwich F only just beat Maccabi F 6-4 at home. Alistair Wakefield dropped one set when he was beaten by Daniel Sheldon for Maccabi. Rod Hughes also won two for Prestwich, reserve Ian Ross added one and they won the doubles. Daniel Sheldon was unbeaten for Maccabi and Alan Nesbit added one. Holmar B was on top form when they beat junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy A 9-1 at home. Only Callum Stott could get on the scorecard for Ramsbottom when he beat Alan Hibbert at eight in the fourth. Callum did go the distance with Trevor Candler but he lost at six in the fifth. Nick Kroll for Ramsbottom also lost at four in the fifth against Alan Hibbert. Shawfield C beat Maccabi D 8-2 at home. Peter Gregory and Roger Snowden were unbeaten for Shawfield, Andrew Webster won one and they won the doubles. Both Daniel Sheldon and Peter Canter beat Andrew. Prestwich G lost 4-6 at home to Holmar C despite three wins from Bob Goodman for Prestwich. Ian Connell added the other win for Prestwich when he beat Trevor Candler in three tight games. Roy Steventon and Jack Berry each won two for Holmar, Trevor Candler won one and they just won the doubles at seven in the fifth.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Seedfield E narrowly lost 4-6 at home to junior team Shawfield G. Josh Fallows had three good wins for Shawfield, James Aadahl won two and Sam Burgoyne one. Andy Wood won two for Seedfield, Barry Simpson one and they just won the doubles at nine in the fifth. Holmar E beat Shawfield F 8-2 at home. Graham Wardle won his three for Holmar, John Heyes and Nigel Shaw each added two and they won the doubles. Scott Fleming won the two sets for Shawfield. David Watts was unbeaten for Wardle when they beat Holmar D 7-3 at home. Jack Gratton added two, Peter Ward one and they won the doubles. David Bell won two for Holmar and Gary Bolton added one. James Collier keeps his lead in the top ten and his three wins for Shawfield helped to overpower Seedfield D 9-1 at home. Lauren Brassington also won three, Peter Helmn two and they won the doubles. The sole win for Seedfield was by Steve Greenall. Ramsbottom TT Academy B beat ELPM D 6-4 at home and the star of the night was eight year old Amir Hussain who won his three quite comfortably. Amir has already had two coaching sessions IN CHINA escorted by his Dad who is a first division player in the League. A fantastic achievement for someone so young. Coached by Khamal his Dad Amir practices at least 6 hours every week and going off his result this week it is certainly paying off. Watch out for his name in the future. Dominic Siddall and Katherine Oldfield each added one. Dominic then paired with Amir and they won a very tense fifth game to win thirteen points to eleven. Antony Vindice and Lawrence Paynter each won two for ELPM.
