DIVISION ONE

The New Year got under way on the Bank Holiday when Seedfield Methodists A played at home to Little Lever who were too strong on the night and won 10-0. Three sets went to five games but the visitors always seemed to have something in reserve. Steve McNicholas, Phil Riley and Ian Lansdale were the three winners for Little Lever. Prestwich A lost 1-9 at home to BAE and it was reserve Duncan Hadfield that managed the one win against Tom Lang. Tony Bates and Tony Smith each won three, Tom Lang two and they won the doubles. Carlton Club A lost 2-8 at home to second placed in the division Radcliffe CC. Ian Quinn managed the one win for the home side when he beat Mick Dore and they also won the doubles. Jim Chadwick and Rob Hall each won three for Radcliffe and Mick Dore two. Ramsbottom C beat Burning Desire 6-4 at home and Martin Wyatt won his three for the home side, Keith Jackson two including at win at ten in the fifth against Steve Barber and Dave Kay one. Ben Armstrong beat Keith Jackson at two in the fifth to win one for the visitors, Andy Kaye and Steve Barber added one each for the visitors and they won the doubles. St.Philips A drew with Adelphi with Dennis Collier being on top form for the home team winning his three, Derek Watmough one and they won the vital doubles. Lee Devenport and Bernard Davis each won two for the visitors and Brett Haslam added one.

 

DIVISION TWO

Prestwich B started the New Year on good form when they beat St.Philips B 9-1 At home. Andy Evans and Bryan Beer each won their three for Prestwich, Dave Bolton two and they won the doubles. Dave Holden was the solitary winner for the visitors. Andy Hamilton was on fine form dropping only 1 game all night in their draw away against Prestwich D. Julian Nuttall was unlucky not to win any as all his games went to five but he lost all three in the 5th game 9, game 9 and game 8. Stephen Siddall added one for the visitors beating Alex Waring at nine in the fifth. Seedfield also won the vital doubles at eight in the fifth. Paul Howarth and Steve Hathaway won two each for the home team and Alex Waring their vital one for the draw. Prestwich C beat their E team 7-3 and keeps their promotion hopes high. Peadar McKinstry won his three for the C team, Joe Redikin two, reserve Simon King one and they won the doubles. Ken Crimes, Barrie Fleet and reserve Rod Hughes each won one for the E team.

 

DIVISION THREE

Elton Table Tennis Club played their home venue ‘rivals’, the Sports Club and drew the match though Graham Daniels won his customary three which keeps him on top of the averages. Martin Nichols added one and they won the doubles. David Hall and John Dodd each won two for Elton Vale Sports Club and Rodney Hall won the one to give them the draw. ELPM C is firmly at the foot of the division and their 1-9 loss at home to Maccabi C didn’t help the cause. Only Harry Uren managed at win for ELPM when he beat Marc Sheldon at eight in the fourth. They lost the doubles at nine in the fifth and Harry lost out at ten in the fifth to Melvyn Levene. Melvyn won his three for the visitors as did Robert Williams, Marc Sheldon two and they won the doubles. Only Wayne Ellis managed to get on the score card for Shawfield B in their 2-8 defeat at home to ELPM B which is only his forth loss of the season and is now three behind top ten leader Graham Daniels. Mark Willmore inflicted the defeat on Wayne and was unbeaten on the night. Steve Greaves added tow as did Paul Carter and they won the doubles. Holmar A drew at home with Seedfield and it was Alistair McKernan for the visitors who was in the best form with three wins. Phil Cooper and Alan Telfer each added one. David Fletcher won two for Holmar, Phil Wardle and Ian McPherson one each and they added the doubles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DIVISION FOUR

Carlton Club C drew at home to Holmar C with Steve Evans being the unbeaten player on the night for the home team and John Bostock added the other two. John Millington won two for the visitors, Ian Ferrari and Jack Berry one each and they won the double. Seedfield Methodists E lost 3-7 at home to Holmar B. Martin Archer was unbeaten on the night for Holmar, Jim Eardley won tow, Alan Hibbert one and they won the doubles. Jonathan Fitton, Ian McKenzie and Keith Stott each won one for the home team including a nail biting eleven in the fifth for Keith against Jim. Bury Grammar School Old Boys A shared the points at home with Maccabi B. Barry Warburton won his three for the home side, Martyn Warburton one and the won the doubles. Sheldon Lee and Marc Sheldon each won two for Maccabi and Aubrey Huller added the vital one for the draw. Maccabi C beat Prestwich 8-2 at home and the win keeps them firmly at the top of the division by seven points. Frank Sheldon had three good wins for the home team, Robert Clayton and Less Suss each added two and they won the doubles. Alistair Wakefield won the two for Prestwich including a win at twelve in the fifth against Robert Clayton and fourteen in the forth against Less Suss. Paul Rourke was unlucky for the visitors losing at ten in the fifth to Less Suss. Shawfield D lost 3-7 at home to Ramsbottom D and it was Roger Whewell and Martin Ormsby doing the damage for the visitors with three wins each and they won the doubles. Barry Collier, Alisdair MacIver and Andrew Ingham each won one for the home team. Shawfield C beat their E team 10-0 to keep them in second spot in the division. Andrew Webster, Ashley Ingham and Peter Gregory each won their three and they added the doubles.

 

DIVISION FIVE

Maccabi E beat ELPM D 8-2 at home. Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman each won three for Maccabi and Peter Canter added two. Anthony Vindice won one for ELPM and they won the doubles. Holmar E beat Ramsbottom Table Tennis Academy B 7-3 at home. John Heyes and Graham Wardle each won three for the home team plus the doubles. David Headley, Daniel Allen and Domonic Siddall each won one for the visitors. Holmar D lost 3-7 to promotion contenders Prestwich G. Bob Goodman and Ian Ross each won three plus they won the doubles. Alan Fletcher, Gerald Quemeneur and David Bell all beat Scott Hill. Wardle keep their promotion hopes high by beating Seedfield G 10-0. Peter Ward, Harry Barlow and Jack Grafton were the three home players. Ramsbottom TTA A beat Shawfield F 9-1 at home and it was Peter Helmn who won the one for the visitors by beating Nick Kroll. Callum Stott and Tom Warburton were the two home team players who won their three.
