DIVISION ONE
Little Lever started 2012 with a solid 8-2 win at home to Carlton Club A with Ronny Durose and Steve McNicholas being unbeaten for the home side. Ian Lansdale added the other two. Only Ian Quinn could get on the score card for Carlton with one win and they also won the doubles. Ramsbottom Town A overpowered St.Philips winning 10-0 at home. Mick Moir, Mark Ramsbottom and Andy Jackson were the unbeaten Ramsbottom players. Prestwich A lost 4-6 at home to BAE. Tony Bates won three for BAE, Tom Lang two and they won the doubles. Paul King won two for Prestwich, George Jones one in only his third match of the season and Colin Boardman also one but having to concede his last two sets due to illness.
DIVISION TWO
S.P.Carlton just won against Carlton Club B at home and it was the last set of the night that they got the win. Tommy Ryan for S.P.Carlton was hard pushed by Jim Bloomfield for his third win of the night when he won at eleven in the fifth. Dave Holden and John Biggins each added one for the home side and they took the doubles at nine in the forth. Prestwich D beat their E team 8-2 with Keith Butler leading the way for the D team with three wins in fine style without dropping a game. Steve Hathaway and Joe Redikin each added two and they won the doubles. Steve dropped his opening set losing at nine in the fifth to Ken Crimes. Joe also lost his opening set to Alex Waring at five in the fourth. Joe’s last set of the night was very close against Ken Crimes and he just ‘sneaked it’ at eleven in the fifth. Carlton Vale lost 4-6 at home to ELPM A. It was the last set and third of the night that John Dawes got the win for ELPM when he beat Chris Sutcliffe and five in the forth. Chris won two for Carlton Vale, Paul Tatlock one and they won the doubles in three straight. Chris had to fight for his wins which came at fourteen in the fourth against Paul Carter in the opening set of the night and at ten in the fifth against Ian Cockcroft who won one for the visitors. Paul Carter won two. Elton Vale Sports Club A beat struggling Holmar A 7-3 at home and Graham Daniels led the way for the home side with three wins, Martin Nicholas added two, Mark Craven one and they won the doubles. Ian McPherson won two for Holmar and Phil Wardle one.
DIVISION THREE
ELPM B beat Shawfield A 8-2 at home which was the same score they won by when they played at Shawfield. Steve Greaves won his three for ELPM moving just one point behind his team mate Carol Mitchel in the averages who with Gerry Faulkner each won two and they also won the doubles. Terry Shaw was the only Shawfield player to get on the score card with two wins. Seedfield C are firmly at the foot of the division and their 0-10 loss against mid table Carlton Club C. Steve Evans, John Bostock and Keith Cheyne were the unbeaten Carlton players. Carlton only took the doubles at six in the fifth and Stephen Siddall for Seedfield just lost at four in the fifth against Steve Evans. Shawfield B drew at home with Ramsbottom B and Wayne Ellis kept his challenge on the averages title with three wins for Shawfield. Dave Stubbington added one and they won the doubles. Roger Whewell and Joe Walk each won two for Ramsbottom and Derek Edwards added one. Maccabi C faced their B team and came out on top, winning 7-3. Frank Sheldon led the way for the C team with three wins; his last on the night was close however at seven in the fifth against Robert Clayton. Les Suss won two for the C team and Frank’s son Marc added the other win plus they won the doubles in three very close games. Robert Clayton won two for the B team and Robert Williams added the other won. Hilton YMCA continue their progression up the Division to now be serious title contenders and their 8-2 win at home to Seedfield B helped their cause. Bob Bent and Alan Cowley were unbeaten for Hilton, Jimmy Hewitt added one and they took the doubles. Alan Telfer and Ian Boyle each won one for Seedfield.
DIVISION FOUR
Maccabi E lost 2-8 to their D team and it was Buz Cohen who led the way for the D team with three wins. Sheldon Lee and Aubrey Huller each added two and they won the doubles. Only Peter canter could get on the score card for the E team with two wins. Holmar C also lost 2-8 against their B team and Ian Ferrari led the way for three wins for the B team. Alan Hibbert and John Millington each added two and they won the doubles. Roy Steventon won the two for the C team. Bury Grammar School Old Boys A beat Prestwich G 7-3 at home. Barry Warburton was the unbeaten player for the home side. Andy Evans added two, Martin Warburton one and they won the doubles. Bob Goodman won two for Prestwich and Richard Hinchcliffe one. Shawfield D drew at home to Maccabi F and Alistair McIver was on top form with his new bat and won his three. Brian Philip and Andrew Ingham each added one. Alan Nesbit and Yoni Morrison each won two for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Clear at the top of the division Prestwich F faced junior team Ramsbottom TT Academy A away and the match result 7-3 was the same as in the first half of the season. Ramsbottom’s Tom Warburton lost all his three in the match in the first half of the season but this time he had three fine wins including beating joint averages leader Alistair Wakefield at fourteen in the fifth. Tom also squeezed past Prestwich reserve Ian Ross at four in the fifth. Rod Hughes, Alistair Wakefield and Ian Ross each won two for Prestwich and they won the doubles at ten in the fourth.
DIVISION FIVE
Seedfield E lost 1-9 at home to Wardle. Andrew Wood had the sole win for the home team beating Peter Ward. David Watts and Jack Gratton were unbeaten for Wardle and they won the doubles. Maccabi G beat Ramsbottom TT Academy B 6-4 at home and Ashley Landes led the way with three fine wins. Yoni Finke and Nathan Jacobs each added one and they won the doubles at six in the forth. Dominic Siddall won two for Ramsbottom and his second of the night only came at ten in the fifth against Nathan. In the first game of this set Dominic won it in a marathon game score of twenty three to Nathans twenty one! His first win also went to six in the fifth against Yoni Finke. Daniel Allen won the other two for Ramsbottom. In the first set of the night he beat Yoni Finke at twelve in the third. Late reserve Amelia Behrens missed out on getting on the scorecard despite some very close games. Holmar D drew at home to Bury Grammar School Old Boys B and it was John Greenhalgh for the visitors who was unbeaten on the night. John Rowlands added their other two wins. Gary Bolton won two but top ten contender David Bell lost two for the first time this season and only his fifth set of the season. Alan Fletcher added the other win plus they won the doubles. Shawfield F beat ELPM D 6-4 at home. Scott Fleming was unbeaten for Shawfield, Jason Wild won two and they won the doubles. Lawrence Paynter won two for ELPM, Anthony Vindice and Mario Piazza each added one.
