Shawfield and Norden Table Tennis Club - Summer League 2012

Competition Information

1.       Registration

The League will comprise a singles and a team competition, played at Norden Community Primary School, Shawfield Lane, Norden, on Thursday evenings, 7pm to 10pm, between 03 May and July 2012 (precise date to be confirmed).

Players are asked to register using the attached registration form. Registered players will automatically be entered to play in the Singles Competition.

Players may also choose to compete in the Team Competition. A team will comprise a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 players.

New teams or new players may register at any time during the course of the competition.

Players may register to play for only one team. Registered transfers between teams during the course of the competition will be permitted, but any points accumulated prior to the transfer will not be added to the new team’s score.

2.       Matches

Neither attendance on every match night, nor being present for full sessions, will be required in order to compete effectively in the league. However, it is a principle of the league that the scoring system will reward regular attendance. The non-availability of team members for any session will not affect a player’s ability to participate in the session.

The organisers will allocate the fixtures at the beginning of each session, depending on the players in attendance. A mixture of singles and doubles matches will be organised.

Participation in the evening fixtures will be dependent upon payment of the subscription fee for the session.

Each set will be best of 5 games, up to 11 points.

An appropriate handicap will be applied to each player and doubles partnership. The organisers reserve the right to amend individual handicaps at any time in order to maintain maximum competitiveness.

Match results are to be recorded on a summer league fixture card, which must be returned to the organisers on completion of the match.

The winner of each match is expected to remain at the table to score the following match.

The organisers will make every effort to vary each player’s opponents as much as possible.

 

3.       League Tables

League points will be awarded using a formula based on the average number of sets won, adjusted with reference to the number of sessions for which the player has been available to play. All singles and doubles matches played will contribute to an overall team score.

The number of sets won on doubles matches will be counted at 150%

To qualify for a league placing in the singles competition players must complete at least 30% of the number of matches played by the player who has played the most league matches.

To qualify for a league placing in the team competition the team must complete at least 30% of the average number of matches per player played by members of the team which has recorded the highest average of matches per player.
