Singles
There were thirteen groups,
mainly of four and just a couple of threes because of no shows. In the majority
of cases the top player from each group won through to the knockout stages.
Notable exceptions were Dennis Collier getting the better of Andrew Tarpey in
group 1. Jimmy Hewitt got the runner up spot from group 7 at the expense of
Alan Auxilly. Division two players from Prestwich TTC Gabriel Wilding won group
10 with Phil Riley, Little Lever making a welcomed return to the championships
after many years absence and took the runner up spot. Tommy Ryan won group 11
with Jeff Craighill taking runners up spot. And finally Derek Watmough beat
Mick Dore to the winners spot from group 12.
