Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 10 Match Report

Division 1

ELPM A only managed to win the doubles at home to Carlton Club A in a 1-9 defeat for the home team. Ian Quinn, Phil Myers and Kevin Chapman each won their 3 for Carlton. Ramsbottom A continued their winning way with an 8-2 win away to Little Lever. Steve McNicholas and Ronnie Durose each won 1 for the home team. Michael Moir took control of the top ten with 3 wins whist Andy Jackson dropped his first set of the season winning 2. Reserve Graham Young also won 2 plus they won the doubles. Mid table Ramsbottom C had a good draw at home with 3rd placed BAE where Tony Bates won his 3 for the visitors and the doubles win proved crucial for the visitors to give them a draw. Tom Lang added the other win for BAE. Martin Wyatt and Les Phillipson each two 2 for Ramsbottom and Dave Kay added the other 1. A last set win for home team Radcliffe CC secured the match win and 3 wins for Jake Shaw who beat Rob Wylie of Hilton Bury in 3 straight games. Jim Chadwick won 2 for the home team and another doubles match proving crucial, this time for a 6-4 win for Radcliffe. Rob Wylie won 2 for the visitors and George and Harry Brennand 1 each. In current 10th place in the division Prestwich A beat 9th placed Seedfield A, 7-3 at home. Colin Boardman won 3, Joe Redikin narrowly missing 3 with a 10-12 defeat in the 5th against Rob Carter gave him 2 wins on the night as did George Jones. David Poytress of Seedfield had a straight games win over George Jones, Rob Carter 1 win and Seedfield won the doubles.

Division 2

Promoted Seedfield Methodists B had a good 7-3 win at home to established division 2 team St.Philips B who are struggling this season near the bottom of the division. Julian Nuttall had 3 fine wins though he had a very close match against John Biggins winning 14-12 in the 5th. Andy Hamilton added 2 and Stephen Siddall 1. 5 sets went t 5 and only 1 went the way of St.Philips with Ian Wheeldon winning 2 and Dave Holden 1. Prestwich D beat Polish Catholic Club 6-4 at home where Andy Evans had 3 wins for the home team, Andy McNabb 2 and Steve Hathaway 1. Mick Hill won 2 for the visitors and Eddie Kalinowski 1 and they won the doubles. In an all Prestwich clash the B team just managed to beat their E team helped by the 3 wins for Peadar McKinstry for the B team, Alex Waring 2 and Keith Butler 1. Barrie Fleet won 2 for the E team, Dave Bolton 1 and they won the doubles. Promotion contenders St.Philips A and Grubba Fans A met each other and Grubba; the lower placed team just edged a 6-4 win away. Lukasz Serdiuk was on fine form for the visitors winning his 3 with Kristof Pinter and Marek Maraszkiewicz each adding 1 and they won the doubles. Dennis Collier won 2 for St. Philips with Derek Watmough and Clive Taylor each winning 1. Wardle Conservatives A moved 6 points clear at the head of the division after an 8-2 win away at Prestwich C. Paul Howarth won his 3 for Wardle to keep him joint top of the averages, Mat Ward and Dennis Bradshaw 2 each plus they won the doubles. Peadar McKinstry won the 2 for Prestwich. Carlton Club B continued their slump this season with a 4-6 defeat at home to Adelphi and keeps them firmly at the foot of the division. Mark Reading won 2, Jim Bloomfield 1 and they won the doubles. Lee Devenport won his 3 for Adelphi, Tom Ryan 2 and Bernard Davis 1.

Division 3

Seedfield D lost 4-6 at home to Shawfield B though Alistair McKernan won his 3 for the home team and Alan Telfer 1. Only 1 set went to 5 and that was won by Paul Nutter 11-4. Paul won 2 on the night with Terry Shaw also winning 2, Phil Herd 1 and they won the doubles. Though on the winning side Mark Willmore lost his first set of the season for ELPM B who won 6-4 away to Claybank. Graham Daniels won his 3 for Claybank including a very tight 11-7 win in the 5th for Graham against Mark. Claybank won the doubles and Mark, Steve Greaves and John Dawes each won 2 for the visitors. Mid table Elton Vale met promotion contenders Maccabi B at home and lost 1-9 with Keith Mills winning the only set for the home team. Stuart Landes and Alan Meltzer each won 3 for the visitors and Dean Clyne added 2 plus the doubles. Bottom team ELPM C lost 2-8 at home to 4th placed Stand CC. John Edge and Gill Marsden won 1 each for ELPM though Harry Uren came close to a win when he lost 8-11 in the 5th to Paul Tatlock. John Edge was close to 2 wins when he also lost 8-11 in the 5th to Dave Jackson of Stand who won 2 on the night as did Paul Tatlock, Chris Sutcliffe winning his 3 all in 3 straight. Stand also won the doubles.

Division 4

Seedfield E are struggling at the foot of the division without a win this season and continued in the same form losing this week 0-10 at home to Holmar A. Ian Ferrari had a very close game with Ian McKenzie for the home team and won 18-16 in the 5th. Phil Wardle and David Fletcher were the other visitors to win. Carlton Club C won 6-4 at home to Maccabi D where John Bostock won his 3 for the home team, Keith Cheyne 2 and Clive Roberts 1. Barry Cohen won 2 for Maccabi, Less Suss 1 and they won the doubles. Though ahead of them in the League Tables BGSOB A lost 3-7 to Prestwich F. Barry Warburton win 2 for the home team and Andy Evans added 1. Rod Hughes won his 3 for Prestwich, Alistair Wakefield 2, Martin Ingram 1 plus they won the doubles. There were some close games between Holmar B at home to Shawfield D and the home team eventually won 7-3. Jim Eardley won his first 3 of the season, Martin Archer added 2, Alan Hibbert 1 and they won the doubles. Ashley Ingham won 2 including a fine 11-6 in the 5th win over Alan Hibbert plus Eric Holmes added 1. Promotion contenders Maccabi C won 7-3 at home to Holmar C. Robert Clayton won his 3 for the home team including an11-5 in the 5th set against John Millington, Les Suss and Stuart Simpson 2 each. Ian McPherson was the only player for Holmar to get on the card with 2 wins plus they won the doubles. St. Sebastians edged just 1 point away from top spot with an emphatic 10-0 away win to Shawfield C. Mark and Dave Stevens plus Dave Hargreaves all won 3 plus they won the doubles.

Division 5

Maccabi E were too strong for Seedfield G who are still without a win this season. Sheldon Lee, Peter Canter and Gary Freeman each won their 3 for the home team and they won the doubles. Promotion contenders Ramsbottom D won 10-0 away to Shawfield G. Neil Booth, Roy Steventon and Nick Kroll each won their 3 for the visitors plus the doubles. Continuing the theme for 10-0 wins this week Holmar D had this score line against visitors ELPM D. Jack Berry, Graham Wardle and Alan Fletcher all won their 3 for the home team plus they won the doubles. Wardle Conservatives B drew at home to Shawfield F where Dave Watts won his 3 for the home team, Jack Gratton 1 and they won the doubles. Shawfield played steady with 5 sets going to 5 in the first half of the match and Wardle held a 4-2 lead before ending in a draw. Alex Braid and Mike Singleton each won 2 and Joshua Fallows 1. BGSOB B beat home team Shawfield E 6-4 where Graham Hilton had 3 fine wins for the visitors, John Greenhalgh 2 and John Rowlands 1. Brian Philips won 2 for Shawfield, Lauren Brassington 1 and they won the doubles.
