Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 3 Match Report

Division 1

BAE the new team to the division had a fine 10-0 win at home to Burning Desire where Tony Bate, Tom Lang and Tony Smith were all unbeaten. Promoted team from last season Seedfield A drew at home to Carlton A. Peter Mears and Rob Carter each won 2 for Seedfield with David Poytress adding the other win. Ian Quinn and Gary Newton each won 2 for Carlton plus they won the doubles. Prestwich A struggled at home against Ramsbottom A where Colin Boardman and Joe Redikin managed 1 win each. Early joint top ten leaders Michael Moir and Andy Jackson both won 3 for Ramsbottom with Graham Young adding 1 plus they won the doubles. Ramsbottom C lost 3-7 at home against Hilton Bury. Graham Hoy won 2 for Ramsbottom with Martin Wyatt adding 1. Bill Russell won 3 for Hilton with Barry Crook adding 2 with a very tight match against Graham Hoy who won at 11-3 in the 5th. George Brennand added 1plus they won the doubles.

Division 2

Wardle A beat Polish Catholic Club 8-2 at home with plenty of tight set scores. Matt Ward and Duncan Hadfield each won 3 for Wardle with Adam Rowbotham winning 2. Only Mick Hill managed 1 win for the Polish Club plus they won the doubles. Prestwich D beat their B team 7-3 with Steve Hathaway on good form in a higher division this year after promotion by winning his 3. Andy Evans won 2 for the D(ream) team, Andy McNabb 1 plus they won the doubles. For the B team Eddie Simon won 2, Alex Waring 1 and for the second week in succession Keith Butler, unusually failed to get on the score card. By winning 6-4 away to Prestwich C St.Philips B took the early lead in the Division tables by just 1 point. Dave Holden and Dave Scowcroft each won 2 for St.Philips, John Biggins 1 plus they won the doubles. Peadar McKinstry won 2 for Prestwich with Bryan Beer and Ken Crimes adding 1 each. Phil Riley made his debut in the League after several years’ absence and he was playing for St.Philips A and beat Prestwich E 7-3 at home. Phil won 2 with Dave Smith and Derek Watmough each adding 2 plus they won the doubles. Dave Bolton won 2 for Prestwich and Ian Connell 1.Carlton B drew at home to Seedfield B. Julian Nuttall was on fine form with 3 wins for Seedfield where Stephen Siddall and Andy Hamilton each added 1. Mark Reading and Stuart Carter each won 2 plus Carlton won the doubles. Grubba Fans A won 7-3 at home where Kristof Pinter won his 3 for Grubba, Lukasz Serdiuk 2 and Damien Bednarski 1 plus Grubba won the doubles. Lee Davenport won 2 for Adelphi and Tommy Ryan 1. 3 matches went to the 5th set and Kristof beat Tommy 11-9, Lukasz lost to Lee Davenport 13-15 and Lukasz beat Tommy Ryan 11-8.

Division 3

Graham Daniels is continuing his early season form with 3 wins against Seedfield D. John Riley and Martin Daniels struggled on the night and were without a win. Phil Cooper, Alistair McKernan and Alan Telfer each won 3 for Seedfield plus they won the doubles. Seedfield C lost 3-7 at home to Stand were Mike Charlton won 2 for the home side and Alan Carse added 1. Chris Sutcliffe won 3 for Stand, Paul Tatlock 2 and Dave Jackson 1 plus they won the doubles. Maccabi A lost 4-6 at home to ELPMB. Gerry Faulkner was on fine form with 3 wins for ELPM; John Dawes added 2 and Steve Greaves 1. For Maccabi Melvyn Levene won 2 and Neil Fineberg making his first appearance this season won 1. Maccabi also won the doubles. Maccabi’s’ A team had better luck away to Shawfield A where they won 7-3. Alan Meltzer, Dean Clyne and Frank Sheldon each won 2 for Maccabi and they won the doubles. Wayne Ellis was the only Shawfield player to get on the score card with 3 wins. ELPM C struggle in the early part of the season and are at the foot of the table. They lost 3-7 at home to current 2nd placed team in this division Elton Vale. Gill Marsden won 2 for ELPM with John Edge winning 1despite a very close match against Keith Mills losing 9-11 in the 5th .David Hall won his 3 for Elton Vale, Keith Mills 2 and Frank Green 1 in a very close match against Gill Marsden where he won 11-9 in the 5th. Elton also won the doubles.

Division 4

Seedfield E lost 3-7 at home to Shawfield D where Jonathan Fitton was the only player to get on the scorecard for Seedfield. Ashley Ingham was in fine form winning his 3 plus Barry Collier and Andrew Ingham each adding 2. Carlton Club C beat Holmar 6-4 at home where John Bostock won his 3 and Keith Cheyne 2. Martin Archer won 2 for Holmar B with Alan Hibbert and Jim Eardley each winning 1 but they lost the doubles. Holmar A had an emphatic 10-0 win at home against their C team. Phil Wardle, David Fletcher and Geoff Crowther all won their 3. Shawfield C won 7-3 at home to Prestwich F. Peter Gregory had 3 good wins, Roger Snowden 2 and Alistair MacIver 1 plus they won the doubles. For Prestwich Alistair Wakefield won 2 and Richard Hinchcliffe 1. Maccabi C had a good 8-2 win at home to BGSOB A. Less Suss and Robert Clayton each won 3 for Maccabi with Stuart Simpson 2 and they won the doubles. Only Barry Warburton got on the score card for BGSOB with 1 win plus they won the doubles.

Division 5

New comers to the League Ramsbottom D had their first win away to Seedfield G. All Ramsbottoms players were on form where Paul Wood, Roy Steventon and Nicholas Kroll each won their 3 plus they won the doubles in a 10-0 score line. The new junior team Shawfield G had a good 7-3 win at home to another new team Grubba Fans B. Josh Fallows, Dean Walmersley and Lewis Bradley all won 2 for Shawfield plus they won the doubles. Tomasz Makkiewicz was the only player to get on the score card for Grubba with 3 fine wins. Maccabi E beat Shawfield F, 7-3 at home. 4 sets went to 5 and Maccabi won 3 of the 4.From the scores the other sets were close as well. Sheldon Lee won his 3 for Maccabi with Peter Canter and Edward Freeman winning 2. Alex Braid and Mike Singleton each won 1 for Shawfield and they won the doubles at 7 in the 5th Holmar D increased their lead in the division tables with an 8-2 win against Wardle B. Jack Berry of Holmar won 3 to keep the early joint lead in the top ten. Ian Ferrari and Graham Wardle each won 2 and they added the doubles to their tally. David Watts won 2 for Wardle with Harry Barlow and Jack Gratton failing to win. ELPM D won away 6-4 to BGSOB B were all 3 players, Lawrence Paynter, Anthony Vindice and Mario Piazza. Graham Hilton had 3 good wins for BGSOB plus they won the doubles. Shawfield E won 6-4 at home to Seedfield F. Mark Lever won 3 for Shawfield with Eric Holmes and Lauren Brassington each won 1 and they won the doubles. Mike Ollerton and Dave Tarver each won 2 for Seedfield.
