Little Lever had an 8-2 win over newly promoted ELPM A. Ronnie Durose and Steve McNicholas each won 3 with Roy Costello 1 and the doubles. Eddie Darlington and Andy McCheyne won 1 each for ELPM. New club to the League BAE from Oldham lost a narrow draw against last year’s Divisional runner up Radcliffe when Jake Shaw of Radcliffe beat Jake Shaw 13-11 in the 4th. Another close match was again Tony Bates of BAE but this time he was on the losing side when the current League Champion Graham Jeffries won 18-16 in the 5th. BAE lost 4-6 with Tony Bates winning 2 and Tony Lang 1 and they won the doubles. Jake Shaw, Wayne Renton and Graham Jeffries each won 2 for Radcliffe. Hilton Bury had a resounding 9-1 win at home to newly promoted Prestwich A. Bill Russell and Harry Brennand each won 3 for Hilton, George Brennand 2 and they won the doubles. Colin Boardman won the 1 for Prestwich. Steve Barber was on fine form for St.Philips A with 3 wins at home against Seedfield A. Andy Kaye added 2 and Ben Armstrong 1. Peter Myers won 2 for Seedfield with Rob Carter adding 1 and they won the doubles. Ramsbottom A beat their B team 8-2 with Michael Moir and Andy Jackson winning 3, Graham Young 1 and they won the doubles. Khamal Hussain won 1 for the B team and had a close loss against Graham Young at 12-14 in the 5th. Tim Ternent added the other win.
Division 2
Seedfield B won 7-3 at home to Prestwich D with Julian Nuttall, Stephen Siddall and Andy Hamilton each winning 2 for Seedfield plus the doubles. The 3 sets that went to 5 all went the way of Seedfield. Andy McNabb won 2 for Prestwich with Steve Hathaway adding the other win. Prestwich E faced their C team and lost 4-6/ Dave Bolton won 2 for the E team with Ian Connell adding 1 plus the doubles. 2 each for Peadar McKinstry, Andy Evans and Ken Crimes in the C team. Adelphi had a comprehensive 8-2 win at home to last years relegated team Wardle A. Lee Davenport and Tommy Ryan each won their 3 with Ken Hayes adding 1 plus they won the doubles. Only Simon King and Adam Rowbotham got on the score card for Wardle with 1 win each. New team to the division Grubba Fans A won their first match in the Bury League with a 7-3 home win against Prestwich B. Marc Townsend and Kristof Pinter each won 3 with Marek Maraszkiewicz adding 1. Alex Waring and Eddie Simon each won 1 for Prestwich plus they won the doubles. The Polish Club lost 3-7 at home to St.Philips A and there were some close matches. Mick Hill won 2 for the losers with Eddie Kalinowski adding 1. Ian Byrne lost 12-14 in the 5th to Derek Whatmough of St.Philips who won 2 for the away team. David Smith beat Mick Hill at 13-11 in the 5th for his 3rd win of the night. Clive Taylor added the other win for St.Philips plus they won the doubles.
Division 3
Alistair McKernan won his 3 for Seedfield D at home against ELPM C. Alan Telfer added 2 and Phil Cooper 1 plus the doubles for Seedfield. Harry Uren, Gill Marsden and John Edge each won 1 for ELPM. ELPM B had a 7-3 home win against Seedfield C. John Dawes and Mark Willmore were on fine form winning 3 each for ELPM B plus they added the doubles. Mike Charlton, Alan Carse and Peter Ingham each won 1 for Seedfield. Stand had a narrow 6-4 win over Shawfield A Where Wayne Ellis was on the losing side despite his 3 wins. Ernie Watkins added the other win for Shawfield. Chris Sutcliffe and Dave Jackson each won 2 for Stand and new signing Paul Tatlock won 1 and Stand won the doubles. Reserve Dean Clyne won 2 for Maccabi A in their home draw against Elton Vale. Melvyn Levene added the other 2 plus the doubles. Dave Hall won his 3 for Elton Vale with Rodney Hall and John Dodd each adding 1.In the last set of the night Maccabi B won 6-4 at home against Hilton YMCA. At 12-10 in the 5th Alan Meltzer of Maccabi beat Alan Crompton to get their win. Dean Clyne and Alan Meltzer each won 2 for Maccabi, Frank Sheldon 1 plus the doubles. Alan Cowley was unbeaten on the night for Hilton YMCA with Alan Crompton adding the other win. Shawfield B drew at home to Claybank where Terry Shaw and Paul Nutter each won 2 for the home team with Phil Herd adding the other 1. Graham Daniels won 3 for Claybank and Mark Craven added the other 1 plus they won the doubles.
Division 4
Holmar B drew with Maccabi C after Holmar were 3-5 and managed to win the last two sets. Alan Hibbert and Jim Eardley each won 2 for Holmar and Martin Archer added the other 1. Robert Clayton won his 3 for |Maccabi and Stuart Simpson 1 plus Maccabi won the doubles. St.Sebastians took the last 2 sets to win at home against BGSOB A. Dave |Hargreaves won his 3 for St.Sebastians with Dave Stevens adding 2 plus they won the doubles. Martyn Warburton won 2 for BGSOB and Barry Warburton and Andy Evans 1 each. Prestwich F were too strong for Seedfield E and won 8-2 at home. Richard Hinchcliffe and Alistair Wakefield each won their 3 for Prestwich with Ross Barton adding 1 plus they won the doubles. Jonathan Fitton and Ian McKenzie each won 1 for Seedfield. Holmar C had an emphatic 9-1 win against Shawfield C. Trevor Candler and Ian McPherson each won 3 for Holmar, John Millington 2 and they added the doubles. Andrew Webster had the 1 win for Shawfield. Maccabi D were leading 4-3 at home before Holmar A reeled off the last 3 sets of the night to win 6-4. It was a very close match with Holmar and Maccabi winning 2 -2 in the sets that went to 5. Louis Samuels won 2 for Maccabi with Barry Cohen adding 1 plus they won the doubles. David Fletcher won his 3 for Holmar, Geoff Crowther 2 and Phil Wardle 1. Shawfield D lost 2-8 at home to Carlton Club C. Ashley Ingham and Barry Collier each won 1 for Shawfield. John Bostock and Keith Cheyne each won 3 for Carlton with Clive Roberts adding 1 and the doubles.
Division 5
With 5 of the 10 sets going to 3 it was Seedfield F who finished better with a narrow 6-4 win over Maccabi E. Mike Ollerton and Steve Greenall won 2 each with Dave Tarver adding 1plus the doubles. Bobby Lee and Edward Freeman each won 2 for Maccabi. Bobby Lee had a very close win at 12-10 in the 5th against Dave Tarver. Wardle Conservative Club B had a 10-0 win over new junior team to the League Shawfield G. Dave Watts, Harry Barlow and Jack Gratton all won 3 for Wardle plus the doubles. Home team Shawfield F struggled against Holmar D and were beaten 1-9. Alex Brain was the only player for Shawfield to get on the score card even though 4 sets went to 5. Alan Fletcher and Jack Berry each won their 3 for Holmar with Graham Wardle adding 2 plus they won the doubles. ELPM D won 6-4 at home to Seedfield G. Mario Piazza and Lawrence Paynter each won 2 for ELPM with Anthony Vindice winning 1 plus they won the doubles. Jamie Howarth had 3 good wins and his 3rd of the night was at 11-6 in the 5th against Anthony Vindice. Barry Simpson added the other 1.
