Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 6 Match Report

Division 1

Little Lever beat Seedfield A 8-2 at home where Steve McNicholas won his 3, Ronnie Durose and Roy Costello 2 each plus the won the doubles. David Poytress and Rob Carter each won 1 for the visitors. Radcliffe CC dominated their home match against Ramsbottom Town C with Dave Kay for the visitors recording their only win in straight games against Wayne Renton. The doubles went to 5 but at 11-3 Radcliffe were the easy winners. Jake Shaw and Jim Chadwick each won their 3 for Radcliffe. Both teams who were promoted from Division 2 last season met each other and Prestwich A beat ELPM A 6-4 away. Eddie Darlington and Andy McCheyne each won 2 for the home team. George Jones and Colin Boardman each won 2 for Prestwich with Joe Redikin winning 1 plus they won the doubles. Ramsbottom B were looking to win at home against BAE when they led 5-3 only for the visitors to snatch the last 2 sets for a draw. Brian Clements and Khamal Hussain each won 2 for the home team and Tim Ternent added 1. Tony Bates was in fine form for the visitors with 3 wins, Tony Smith added 1 plus they won the doubles. Hilton Bury beat Carlton Club A 8-2 at home where Rob Wylie won his 3 playing his first match of the season for the home team. Bill Russell and George Brennand added 2 plus they won the doubles. Ian Quinn and Phil Myers each won 1 for Carlton. Ramsbottom A extended their lead at the head of the table when they won 9-1 at home to Burning Desire. Steve Barber for the visitors had a fine win at 11-9 in the 5th against Mark Ramsbottom and this was their only win. Mick Moir and Andy Jackson continued with their 100% individual record, each winning 3, Mark Ramsbottom added 2 and the won the doubles.
Division 2

Seedfield B lost heavily 1-9 at home to Wardle A where Stephen Siddall was the only Seedfield player to win. He beat Simon King 11-8 in the 5th Matt Ward and Paul Howarth won their 3 with Simon King winning 2 plus they won the doubles. The higher ranked Prestwich D team beat their C team with Andy Evans and reserve Dave Bolton winning their 3 and Andy McNabb 1. Peadar McKinstry and Bryan Beer each won 1 for the C team. Current top of the table St.Philips eased their way past Prestwich B 8-2 where Dennis Collier and Derek Watmough won their 3, Clive Taylor 1 and they won the doubles. Alex Waring and Eddie Simon each won 1 for Prestwich though Keith Butler had a very close encounter with Derek Watmough 10-12 in the 5th to make this the 3rd match out of 5 where, unusually he did not get on the score card. St.Philips B were well and truly beaten 0-10 at home to Adelphi where Tommy Ryan, Lee Devenport and Bernard Davies each won their 3 for Adelphi. 5 matches went to 4 games and 2 went to 5.Prestwich E lost 3-7 at home to the Polish Catholic Club where Eddie Kalinowski was in fine form for the visitors with 3 wins. Ian Byrne added 2 for and Eddie Robakowski 1 plus they won the doubles. Dave Bolton won 2 for Prestwich and Bill Fairhurst 1. Only 3 sets went to 4 and they were all won by the visitors. Carlton Club B continues their struggle this season with a 1-9 beating at home to Grubba Fans A where Jim Bloomfield was the only winner for Carlton. Kristof Pinter of Grubba heads the averages in this division and had 3 more wins along with Lukasz Serdiuk and Damian Bednarski winning 2 and they won the doubles.
Division 3

A clash of the Seedfield teams saw the C team beat the D team with Alan Carse and Michael Charlton both winning their 3 for the C team. Alistair McKernan, Phil Cooper and Alan Telfer each won 1 of the D team plus they won the doubles but lost the match 4-6. Claybank won 7-3 at home to Maccabi A with Graham Daniels maintaining his 100% record and join top position in the averages. Martin Nichols added 2, John Riley 1 plus the doubles. Robert Williams won 2 for Maccabi and Melvyn Levene 1.Maccabi B drew at home to Stand where Stuart Landes and Dean Clyne each won 2 for the home team plus the doubles. Paul Tatlock and Dave Jackson each won 2 for Stand and Chris Sutcliffe unusually just managed the 1 win. ELPM C lost at home to the current division leaders Hilton YMCA. Gill Marsden won 2 for ELPM and John Edge 1.Gill was close in her 3rd set losing 3-11 to top ten leader Alan Cowley. Alan won his 3, Alan Crompton 2 and Alan Bradshaw 1 plus they won the doubles. Elton Vale won 6-4 at home though all their players lost to Wayne Ellis of Shawfield A, the only player to get on the score card for the visitors. Shawfield also won the doubles 11-7 in the 5th. Keith Mills, John Dodd and Jim Bollard all won 2 for Elton. Shawfield B also lost 4-6 this time at home to ELPM D where Mark Wilmore won 3 for the visitors. John Dawes and Gerry Faulkner each added 1 plus they won the doubles. Terry Shaw won 2 for the home team and Paul Nutter and Phil Herd each added 1.
Division 4

Carlton Club admitted at the end of the match against their opposition, St.Sebastians that they were ‘just too good’ when they slumped to a 2-8 home defeat. Keith Cheyne and John Bostock each won 1 for the home team. Mark Stevens and Dave Hargreaves each won 3 for St.Sebastians, Dave Stevens 1 and the won the doubles. BGSOB A dished out a 10-0 beating against Shawfield C where Barry and Martyn Warburton plus Andy Evens each won 3 for the home team plus they won the doubles. The home team admitted that the match wasn’t as easy as the score line reflects and particularly they said Andrew Webster played well for the visitors and unlucky not to win any. A close match between Holmars A & B team with a draw at the end. David Fletcher maintained his 100% record and won his 3 with Geoff Crowther and Phil Wardle adding 1 each. Alan Hibbert and Martin Archer each won 2 for the B team. 4 of the winning sets for the A team were won in the 5th game. Prestwich F lost 4-6 at home to Holmar C with Rod Hughes winning 2 for the home team and Alistair Wakefield and Ross Barton 1 each. Jack Berry won his 3 for Holmar, Ian McPherson 2 and they won the doubles. Maccabi C overwhelmed Seedfield E in a 10-0 win at home. Les Suss, Robert Clayton and Stuart Simpson all won their 3 for Maccabi. Shawfield D lost 2-8 at home to Maccabi D. Andrew Ingham and Barry Collier each won 1 for the home team. Barry Cohen won his 3 for Maccabi, Louis Samuels and Mark Sheldon each won 2 plus they won the doubles.
Division 5

Seedfield F lost 2-8 to Ramsbottom D where only Mike Ollerton was able to get on the score card for the home team with 2 wins. Paul Wood won 3 for the visitors with Roy Steventon and 13 year old Nicholas Kroll each winning 2. Nicholas had a fine win against Dave Tarver of Seedfield after being 2-0 down he turned his game around and won 14-12 in the 5th. Holmar D beat BGSOB B 6-4 at home where Graham Hilton won 3 for the visitors and his team mates were unable to get on the score card but they did win the doubles. Ian Ferrari, Alan Fletcher and Neil Cowburn each won 2 for Holmar. Shawfield F beat ELPM D 8-2 at home. Mike Singleton won 3 for the home team with Alex Braid and Barry Jones each adding 2 plus they won the doubles. Only Laurence Paynter managed to win for ELPM. Dave Watts was joined by Peter Ward and Jack Gratton in winning their 3 at home to Seedfield G where the score ended 10-0 for Wardle Conservative Club B. Shawfield G, a team of juniors are struggling this season and their struggles continued this week with a 0-10 result at home to Maccabi E. Gary and Edward Freeman plus Bobby Lee each won 3 plus they won the doubles. Grubba Fans B have two new signings to hopefully stabilise their team and managed a draw at home against Shawfield E. Grzegogz Greda won 2 for the home team, Laszlo Fieszl and Lukasz Dudziak each won 1 plus they won the doubles. Lauren Brassington had 3 good wins, Mark Lever 2 and reserve Joshua Fallows didn’t manage to get on the score card.
