Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 9 Match Report

Division 1

The Ramsbottom A team had a good 6-4 win against Ramsbottom B though the visitors had reserve players and one of the reserves could only play one of his three sets because of an injury. David Poytress, Peter Mears and Gary Skinner each won two for the home team. Dave Kaye won two for Ramsbottom with Mandy Winskill winning one and the won the doubles. In the opening set of the night Mandy just lost out at 6-11 in the fifth and she had another close match against Peter Mears losing 12-14 in the fifth. Third placed team BAE were well and truly beaten 1-9 at home to the leading team Ramsbottom Town A. The only victory for the home team was when Tony Bates beat Mark Ramsbottom. Michael Moir and Andy Jackson each won three for the visitors with Mark Ramsbottom adding two plus the doubles. Michael and Andy share the top of the averages, both with a 100% record. Ramsbottom C beat an under strength Prestwich A 8-2 at home with Dave Kay and Les Phillipson winning their 3, Martin Wyatt 1 plus they won the doubles. Colin Boardman and Joe Redikin each won 1. ELPM A are still looking for their first win of the season and a visit to Burning Desire was close but not quite enough when the lost 4-6. Steve Barber was in good form for the home team winning his 3 with Ben Armstrong and Andy Kaye each winning 1 and the won the doubles. Eddie Darlington won 2 for the visitors with Andy McCheyne and Carol Mitchell each adding 1. Carlton Club A lost 1-9 at home to second placed Radcliffe CC. Only Phil Myers managed to get on the score card for the home team when he beat Wayne Renton. Graham Jeffries and Jim Chadwick each won 3 and they won the doubles. Hilton Bury drew with Little Lever where all players won at least one. Bill Russell won 2 for the home team, Barry Crook and George Brennand 1 each plus they won the doubles. Ronnie Durose and Steve McNicholas each won 2 for the visitors with Roy Costello adding 1.

Division 2

Wardle A consolidate their place at the top of the division with a 10-0 beating at home to unusually lack lustre Carlton Club B. Paul Howarth, Dennis Bradshaw and Adam Rowbotham each won their three for Wardle plus the added the doubles. Prestwich E was at home to Seedfield B and shared the points with a draw. Craig Bradbury won 2 for Prestwich, Barry Fleet and Ian Connell 1 each plus they won the doubles. Andy Hamilton and Julian Nuttall each won 2 and Stephen Siddall 1 for Seedfield. Grubba Fans A proved too strong on the night when they beat St.Philips B 9-1 at home. Kristof Pinter is currently joint leader of the top ten with Derek Watmough and his 3 wins this week helped to retain that position. Lukasz Serdiuk also won 3 from Grubba with Marek Maraszkiewicz adding 2 plus they won the doubles. Gareth Palmer was the only St.Philips player to register a win though John Biggins lost in 5 to both Marek and Kristof. Gareth Palmer also took Marek and Kristof to 5. St.Philips A had a resounding 10-0 win at home which keeps them 2 points off the lead with this win. Dennis Collier, Derek Watmough and Clive Taylor all won their 3 plus they won the doubles. The points were shared at Adelphi who played Prestwich D. Lee Devenport and Bernard Davies each won 2 with Ken Hayes adding 1. The Andy’s Evans and McNabb each won 2 plus they won the doubles.

Division 3

In this division three encounter the C team drew with Claybank though they trailed 2-5 before capturing the last three sets. Alan Carse and Mike Charlton each won two for Seedfield with Peter Ingham having a fine win over Graham Daniels at 11-5 in the fifth. Mark Wilmore of ELPM B continued his good form by being unbeaten so far this year and the team are also unbeaten which keeps them clearly at the top of the division. Mark won his 3 again this week as did team mate John Dawes, Gerry Faulkner 2 and they won the doubles for a resounding 9-1 win against their C team. Only John Edge could manage a win for the C team and they are currently next to the bottom of the division. Maccabi B are fighting with Hilton Bury and their 10-0 win this week against Seedfield D did their cause no harm. Dean Clyne, Stuart Landes and Alan Meltzer all won 3 for Maccabi and they won the doubles as well. Stand beat Elton Vale 6-4 at home so Rodney Hall had to be content with his 3 wins for Elton Vale and to be on the losing side. Two of Rodney’s matches against Paul and Dave were only won at 11-9 in the 5th John Dodd added the other win for Elton. Both Chris Sutcliffe and Dave Jackson won 2 for Stand with Paul Tatlock adding 1 plus the doubles. Shawfield A won for the first time this season and Wayne Ellis helped their cause with 3 wins, Bob Mitchell 2, Ernie Watkins 1 plus they won the doubles. Hilton missed Alan Cowley with Alan Crompton winning 2 and Alan Bradshaw 1.

Division 4

Holmar A and St.Sebastians heading this division and both had wins this week. Holmar A beat Carlton Club C 6-4 at home with joint leader of the averages David Fletcher winning his three. Geoff Crowther added two and Phil Wardle 1. Carlton saw Steve Evans win two, Keith Cheyne 1 and they won the doubles. St.Sebastians beat Shawfield D at home where Mark Stevens and joint top ten leaders Dave Hargreaves each won three and they won the doubles. Ashley and Andrew Ingham won 1 each with Barry Collier also adding 1. Maccabi C beat their C team 6-4 keeps them 5 points away from 2nd place. Les Suss and Stuart Simpson each won 2, Robert Clayton 1 and they won the doubles. In a very strange match where the D team won the first 4 sets then the D team the next 6. Prestwich F won 7-3 at home to Holmar B where Alistair Wakefield was on fine form winning his 3, Richard Hinchcliffe 2. Ross Barton 1 and they won the doubles. Alan Hibbert won 2 for the visitors and Martin Archer 1. Holmar C lost 4-6 at home against BGSOB A with Barry Warburton winning his 3 for the visitors, Martyn Warburton and Andy Evans 1 plus they won the doubles. John Millington won 2 for the home team, Ian McPherson and Trevor Candler 1 each. Shawfield C beat struggling Seedfield E 8-2 at home where Peter Gregory was in fine form with 3 wins, Roger Snowden and Andrew Webster 2 each plus they won the doubles. Ian McKenzie and Keith Stott managed 1 win each for the visitors.

Division 5

The F team faced Wardle B where Dave Watts won his customary three for the visitors, Neil Bamford two and Jack Gratton one plus they won the doubles. Dave Tarver won two for the home side with Jamie Howarth adding one. Steve Greenall was close to winning a set which he eventually lost 14-12, 14-16, 5-11,10-12. Another close win was Jamie Howarth beating Jack Gratton at 15-13 in the fifth. Seedfield G vs. Holmar D saw the top and bottom teams meet so the outcome was not unexpected when the visitors won 10-0, all in three straight games. The victors for Holmar were Ian Ferrari, Alan Fletcher and Graham Wardle and the added the doubles. Shawfield E lost 4-6 at home to Maccabi E. Peter Canter had his first treble of the season for Maccabi with Gary Freeman and Oliver First adding 1 each plus they won the doubles. Mark Lever and Eric Holmes each won 2 for the home team.
