Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 12 Match Report

Division 1

Bill Russell won his 3 for Hilton Bury against Ramsbottom B but it was not enough to prevent Ramsbottom winning 6-4. Khamal Hussain & Keith Jackson each won 2 for Ramsbottom with newcomer Mohammaed Sofied winning 1 to add to their doubles win. Ramsbottom A beat ELPM A 9-1 with Andy Jackson & Graham Hoy each winning 3. ELPM’s solitary success was Eddie Darlington’s victory over Tim Ternant. After drawing with Prestwich A at the start of the season, Carlton Club A made home advantage count with 7-3 victory courtesy of 3 wins each for Ian Quinn & Phil Myers. For Prestwich, George Jones, Adam Rowbotham & Joe Redikin each beat Kim Bernard. BAE won 9-1 against Seedfield A with maximums from Tony Smith & Tony Bates. Seedfield’s Peter Mears won their point with victory over Tom Lang. Radcliffe CC beat Little Lever 8-2 with 3 wins each for Graham Jeffries & Wayne Renton. Burning Desire gained a welcome 7-3 win over Ramsbottom C. Steve Barber won 3, Benny Armstrong 2 & Andy Kaye 1 plus the doubles for Burning Desire. Dave Kaye with 2 & Martin Wyatt with 1 were the winners for Ramsbottom.

Division 2

Prestwich E & Carlton Club A fought out a tight draw. Dave Bolton & Barrie Fleet each winning 2 for Prestwich with John Frost & Mark Reading taking 2 each for Carlton Club. In the battle at the top Adelphi did the hopes of a return to Division 1 no harm with a 7-3 victory over St Philips A. Lee Devenport & Tommy Ryan each won 3 plus the doubles. Denis Collier, Derek Watmough & Clive Taylor each defeated Brian Hall for St Philips’ points. Prestwich B defeated Seedfield B 8-2 with Keith Butler & Eddie Simon being the unbeaten players. Andy Hamilton beat Alex Waring to record Seedfield’s sole singles success. St Philips B & Prestwich D repeated their draw of the opening week of the season. There were 2 wins each for Dave Holden & Gareth Palmer of St Philips and Andy Evans & Andy McNabb of Prestwich. Ian Wheeldon picked up the remaining singles victory with the doubles going to Prestwich.

Division 3

ELPM B recorded a fine 9-1 win over Shawfield A to maintain their strong challenge for a return to Division 2. Mark Willmore & John Dawes were unbeaten for ELPM. Shawfield’s Wayne Ellis beat Steve Greaves for their solitary success on the night. Maccabi B beat Claybank 8-2. Stuart Landes won 3 for Maccabi with Graham Daniels beating both Dean Clynes & Alan Meltzer to claim 2 points for Claybank. Alan Cowley continued his fine form with 3 wins for Hilton YMCA against Stand CC. For Hilton YMCA Barry Walsh won a tight match against Steve Morris at 12-10 in the fifth and Alan Bradshaw also recorded a win against Steve. However 2 wins each for Chris Sutcliffe & Dave Jackson plus a doubles victory was sufficient to gain a draw. For Elton Vale the two Halls, David & Rodney, each won 3, with Keith Mills beating Paul Carter & a doubles win giving them an 8-2 victory over Seedfield D. Alistair McKernan & Alan Telfer each recorded a win for Seedfield.

Division 4

Shawfield D improved upon their opening week defeat by drawing with Maccabi D in the return match. Ashley Ingham continued his fine recent form with 3 wins to which Barry Collier added 1 plus the doubles. For Maccabi Louis Samuels & Edward Freeman each won 2 with Robert Clayton beating Andrew Ingham. Carlton Club C kept up the pressure on the top two with an 8-2 win at Prestwich F. John Bostock was unbeaten with both Keith Cheyne & Steve Evans each contributing 2 wins. Rod Hughes won 2 for Prestwich. Holmar B proved too strong for BGSOB A with a 9-1 win. Alan Hibbert & Jim Eardley were unbeaten with BGSOB’s consolation being Barry Warburton’s victory over Martin Archer. Maccabi D had a close match with Shawfield C. With the match at 4-4 all Buzz Cohen(Maccabi) & Peter Gregory(Shawfield), both previously unbeaten on the night, played with Peter Gregory emerging victorious. Louis Samuels(Maccabi) & Roger Snowden(Shawfield) fought out a tight match with Roger winning in the fifth. Holmar C repeated their opening 10-0 win against the struggling Seedfield E. Trevor Candler, Ian Ferrari & John Millington were Holmar’s unbeaten players.

Division 5

Shawfield F beat their young G team by the maximum margin. Seedfield F held the league leaders, Holmar D, to a creditable draw. Whilst Jack Berry won 3 & Ian Ferrari won 2 for Holmar, Dave Tarver’s 2 wins supported by 1 each for Mike Ollerton & Steve Greenall, plus the doubles gave Seedfield their draw. BGSOB B beat bottom side Seedfield G by the maximum margin, with 3 wins each for John Rowlands, John Greenhalgh & Philip Hilton. Shawfield E completed a convincing 10-0 win over ELPM D, with Mark Lever, Brian Philip & Laura Brassington unbeaten. Holmar E, who have filled the breach left by Grubba’s withdrawal, played their 1st match against Wardle B. Wardle recorded an 8-2 win with Dave Watts taking all 3 and Phil Wardle & Harry Barlow winning 2 each. Graham Wardle & Nigel Shaw each picked up a win for Holmar.
