Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 14 Match Report

Division 1

Little Lever recorded a maximum 10-0 win over Ramsbottom B with Ronnie Durose, Steve McNicholas & Ian Lansdale each winning 3. BAE came through a tough match with Burning Desire, running out 6-4 winners. Three wins for Tony Bates keep him as the leading player in the Division. Benny Armstrong & Steve Barber each won 2 for Burning Desire but a win each for Tom Lang & Pete Bradford plus a doubles ensured the BAE win. Radcliffe CC strengthened their grip on 2nd place with a maximum 10-0 win over ELPM A with 3 wins each for Rob Hall, Wayne Renton & Mick Dore. Eddie Darlington took Mick Dore to 5 games losing 11-9 in the last. Andy McCheyne took Rob Hall to 5 games winning 16-14 in the 4th to level at 2 all only finally going down 13-11 in the 5th.

Division 2

In an inter-club clash at Prestwich TTC the D team emerged as 7-3 winners over the B team. All players won at least 1 with Andy Evans picking up 3 for the D team. Steve Hathaway won 2 only losing to Alex Waring in the 4th. Craig Bradbury beat Alex but was beaten by Eddie Simon & Keith Butler.

Division 3

ELPM B continue to set a fierce pace at the top of the Division with a 10-0 victory over Maccabi A. Mark Willmore, Gerry Faulkner & John Dawes were the victorious players for ELPM. Claybank thanks to 3 wins from Graham Daniels and 2 from Martin Nicholls plus a doubles success emrged 6-4 winners against Seedfield D. Seedfield’s Alistair McKernan picked up 2 wins supported by victories for Alan Telfer & Phil Cooper. Stand recorded their first 10-0 win of the season against Seedfield C, with Chris Sutcliffe, Paul Tatlock & Steve Morris being unbeaten.

Division 4

Shawfield C picked up a valuable 6-4 win over Prestwich F in their efforts to distance themselves from the bottom 2 teams. Four players each won 2, Peter Gregory & Andrew Webster for Shawfield and Rod Hughes & Alastair Wakefield for Prestwich. Stand-in Andrew Ingham beat Ross Barton, this win plus the doubles being the difference between the teams. Maccabi C moved into 3rd place with a 6-4 win over Bury GSOB A. Robert Clayton was unbeaten for Maccabi with 2 wins for Stuart Simpson and 1 for Aubery Huller. Bury GSOB wins were down to 2 for Barry Warburton, 1 for Martyn Warburton plus a doubles success. The all Holmar clash between the C & A teams resulted in a 5-5 draw with five matches going to a 5th game & all players losing a least one set. John Millington & Ian McPherson picked up 2 each for the C team to add to their doubles win at 11-9 in the 5th. David Fletcher & Geoff Crowther each won 2 with Phil Wardle delivering the other win. Shawfield D completed an 8-2 victory over Seedfield E with Ashley Ingham unbeaten for them. Barry Collier & Andrew Ingham each won 2 for Shawfield with Jonathan Fitton beating both of them to record 2 wins for Seedfield. St Sebastians closed the gap at the top to one point with an 8-2 win over Maccabi D. Mark Stevens & Dave Hargreaves each won 3 for St Sebastians with Dave Stevens beating Les Suss. Louis Samuels & Sheldon Lee each beat Dave Stevens to collect Maccabi’s 2 points. John Bostock & Steve Evans, supported by awin from Clive Roberts helped Carlton C to an 8-2 win over Holmar B. Alan Hibbert & Martin Archer eacxh won 1 for Holmar.

Division 5

Holmar E chalked up their 1st win with a 9-1 success over Shawfield G. Graham Wardle & Nigel Shaw won 3 with David Bell picking up 2. Shawfield’s win was gained by James Aadahl. Holmar D were the stronger team on the night winning 6-4 at Wardle B. Jack Berry played to pick up 3 wins for Holmar. His teammate Ian Ferrari won 2 with Alan Fletcher chipping in 1 for the victors..Wardle, with 2 wins by Dave Watts and 1 for Peter Ward, took the doubles. Shawfield F and Maccabi E were in a close fought match with honours even at 5 all. No player was unbeaten with the final match of the night being a 5 game battle with Sheldon Lee of Maccabi taking it in the last against Brian Philips to ensure the draw. Shawfield E travelled to Seedfield F to rack up an 8-2 win. Brian Philips won his 3 for Shawfield with teammates Lauren Brassington & Mark Lever each winning 2. Mike Ollerton won 2 for Seedfield.
