Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 4 Match Report

Division 1

Radcliffe CC had a last set draw at home to Ramsbottom B. Mick Dore made a return to the team after 12 months injury with 1 win and Graham Jeffries, current Bury Men’s Singles Champion surprisingly only managed 1 win. Jim Chadwick added a fine treble; his first set of the night at 12-10 in the 5th against Brian Clements. Brian won 2 for Ramsbottom as did Graham Hoy including a very close 11-9 in the 5th win against Graham Jeffries. Ramsbottom won the doubles. The new team from the Oldham League, BAE are proving to be a very strong addition to this division and showed their strength with a 9-1 win over home team ELPM A. Carol Mitchell had the only win for ELPM beating Tony Smith who won 2 for BAE. Both Tony Bates and Tom Lang won 3 and they also won the doubles which they have a 100% record in so far this season. Ramsbottom A proved too strong for their C team when they won 10-0. Michael Moir, Andy Jackson and making his first appearance this season Mark Ramsbottom all won their 3 for the A team. Phil Myers won his 3 for Carlton A who won their home match 7-3 against Burning Desire. Gary Newton added 2, Ian Quinn 1 for Carlton plus they won the doubles. Ben Armstrong won 2 for the losers and Steve Barber added the other win. Hilton Bury had a convincing 9-1 win at home against Seedfield A. Bill Russell and George Brennand won their 3, Harry Brennand won 2 and they won the doubles. Only David Poytress managed to get on the score card with 1 win. A late result from last week worthy of a mention was Little Lever at home to Ramsbottom B team and just managed a draw. They were 2-5 down before reeling off the last 3 sets for the draw. Ronnie Durose was in fine form for Little Lever with 3 wins including an 11-0 5th game win against Cambridge University bound Josh Bleakley. Roy Costello and Ian Lansdale each added 1 for Little Lever. Khamal Hussain won 2 for Ramsbottom, Josh Bleakley and Tim Ternent 1 each and they won the doubles.

Division 2

Seedfield B lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich C where Julian Nuttall won 2 for the hosts with Andy Hamilton adding 1. Peadar McKinstry won his 3rd of the night for Prestwich in a very close match at 11-5 in the 5th over Julian Nuttall. Steve Hathaway won 2, Bryan Beer 1 and they won the doubles. Prestwich B had a home win 6-4 against Carlton Club B where Eddie Simon had 3 wins for Prestwich, Keith Butler 2 and Alex Waring 1. Mark Reading won 2 for Carlton, Jim Bloomfield 1 and they won the doubles, just at 11-9 in the 5th. 7 sets went to a 4th game and 3 went to 5 in a very closely fought match. Prestwich D beat new team to the division Grubba Fans A 8-2 at home. Andy McNabb won his 3 for Prestwich and Andy Evans and Steve Hathaway each won 2 plus they won the doubles. Only top ten leader Kristof Pinter managed to win the 2 for Grubba. A clash of the St.Philips teams A vs. B saw the A team winning 9-1 where Dave Holden for the home B team managed the 1 win. Dennis Collier and Derek Whatmough each won their 3 for the A team, Clive Taylor 2 and the won the doubles. Current second place Wardle Cons A had a resounding 10-0 win away at Prestwich E. Matt Ward, Paul Howarth and Duncan Hadfield won their 3 for Wardle plus the doubles. The Polish Club managed a last set draw at home to Adelphi where Tommy Ryan was on form with 3 wins for the visitors. Lee Devenport and Bernard Davies each added 1. The home team were looking like a win at 4-3 up then lost the next 2 sets then Eddie Kalinowski won 11-9 in the 4th against Lee Devenport for a draw. Eddie won 2 and Ian Byrne won 2 plus the home team won the doubles.

Division 3

Seedfield D lost 2-8 at home to Hilton YMCA where Alan Crompton and Alan Cowley each won their 3 for the visitors with Alan Bradshaw winning 1 and they won the doubles. Alistair McKernan and Phil Cooper each won 1 for Seedfield. Shawfield B met their A team at home and won 7-3. Paul Nutter, Phil Herd and Terry Shaw each won 2 for the B team; all losing to Wayne Ellis of the A team. The B team added the doubles. Graham Daniels continued his good early season form to keep his 100% record intact in a draw away to Elton Vale. Martin Nichols added 1 win and they won the doubles at 11-5 in the 5th. David and Rodney Hall each won 2 for Elton with Keith Mills adding 1. Stand lost 3-7 at home to ELPM B where Mark Wilmore won his 3 with John Dawes and Steve Greaves 2 for the visitors. Chris Sutcliffe won 2 for Stand and the won the doubles at 11-7 in the 5th. ELPM C found the going hard at home against Maccabi A. Robert Williams and Stuart Landes each won 3 for the visitors with Melvyn Levene adding 2 plus the doubles. John Edge won the opening set of the night in 3 straight games against Melvyn Levene.

Division 4

BGSOB A beat Carlton C 7-3 at home. Barry Warburton won his 3 with Andy Evans adding 2, Martyn Warburton 1 and they won the doubles. John Bostock won 2 for Carlton and Keith Cheyne 1. Holmar B were on fine form in a 10-0 home win against Seedfield E. Alan Hibbert, Trevor Candler and Ian Ferrari each won 3 plus the doubles. 3 sets went to 5 but Holmar just had the edge in each of the final games. Looking to be heading to a comfortable win at home leading 5-3 Maccabi C lost the last 2 sets to St.Sebastians to draw the match. Stuart Simpson and Robert Clayton each won 2 for Maccabi and Less Suss added 1. Mark Stevens and Dave Hargreaves each won 2 for St.Sebastians plus they won the doubles. Holmar C drew at home to Maccabi D with Ian McPherson winning 3 for the home teams and Jack Berry 2. Barry Cohen won 2 for Maccabi with Louis Samuels and Mark Sheldon winning 1 plus they won the doubles. Shawfield C were too strong for their D team winning 8-2 where Roger Snowden and Peter Gregory each won 3 for the C team, Andrew Webster 2 and they won the doubles. Andrew and Ashley Ingham each won 1 for the D team.

Division 5

BGSOB B had a convincing 10-0 away win against Shawfield G. John Rowlands, Phil Hilton and David Jeffrey each won their 3 for BGSOB and they won the doubles. Seedfield F beat their G team 10-0 where Mike Ollerton, Dave Tarver and Jamie Howarth all won 3 plus they won the doubles. Only 2 sets went to a 4th game so it was hard going for the G team. Shawfield F struggled against their E team and lost 2-8. Alex Braid and Mike Singleton were the only victors for the F team though 4 sets went to 4, and 3 to a 5th in some very close matches. Wardle Conservatives B drew at home to Maccabi E where David Watts won his 3, Peter Ward 1 and they won the doubles. For Maccabi E Sheldon Lee and Edward Freeman each won 2 and Bobby Lee 1 in a match where 4 sets went to a 5th and some very close results. Grubba Fans B were again struggling for regular players and lost 0-10 at home with 2 guest players. Holmar D’s players Alan Fletcher, Ian Ferrari and Graham Wardle each won 3 plus the doubles. Ramsbottom D had a comprehensive 10-0 win at home where 13 year old Callum Stott won his 3 in his debut for the team. Roy Steventon and Paul Wood also won their 3 plus the doubles.
