Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 18 Match Report

Division 1

Second placed Radcliffe CC had a convincing 9-1 win at home to Seedfield Methodists A who are in the relegation zone. Jim Chadwick, Mick Dore and Rob Hall each won 3 for the home team but the visitors did manage a win in the doubles. Little Lever had a comfortable 7-3 win at home with Ron Durose in good form winning his 3. Steve McNicholas and Ian Lansdale each won 2.It must have felt strange for Ron because is team mate for over 30 years was Phil Riley now he is playing against him. For the visitors Phil beat Ian Lansdale, Steve Barber beat Steve McNicholas and they won the doubles. Bottom team ELPM drew with Ramsbottom C at home. Andy McCheyne and Eddie Darlington each won 2 and they won the doubles. Martin Wyatt and Dave Kaye each won 2 for the visitors and Les Phillipson 1.The top team Ramsbottom A were at home and dropped 2 points to Carlton Club A where Ian Quinn had a good win over Mark Ramsbottom. Carlton also won the doubles. Mick Moir and Andy Jackson each won 3 for the home team and Mark Ramsbottom 2.

Division 2

Wardle Cons. A were away to Prestwich B and won 7-3 to keep them in contention for promotion. Matt Paul Howarth won his 3 for Wardle with Matt Ward and Dennis Bradshaw each winning 2. Eddie Simon was the only home team player to get on the score card but combined with Keith Butler they did manage to scrape a doubles win as well at 11-9 in the 5th. Seedfield B lost 4-6 at home to Adelphi who are also in the hunt for promotion. Andy Hamilton had 3 fine wins for Seedfield including an 11-8 in the 5th win over top ten leader Lee Devenport. Julian Nuttall added 1 win and had a close match with Tom Ryan losing 3-11 in the 5th. Lee Devenport and Tom Ryan each won 2 for the visitors, Bernard Davies 1 and they won the doubles for the vital win. Prestwich D are having good results in the division higher this season but slumped to a 1-9 defeat against promotion chasing St.Philips A who were relegated from division 1 last season. Only Andy Evans won 1 for the home team, beating Clive Taylor. Dennis Collier was on very impressive form and the opposition commented that ‘Dennis was unplayable tonight- he was brilliant. Dennis won his 3 as did Derek Watmough, Clive Taylor 2 and they won the doubles. Prestwich E are firmly at the foot of the division with only 1 win all season. They lost 3-7 this week which hasn’t helped their relegation cause. Dave Bolton and Ian Connell won 1 each for the home side and they won the doubles. Marek Maraszkiewicz and Lukasz Serdiuk were on fine form winning their 3 and Damian Bednarski added their other win. Carlton B B drew at home to Prestwich C and are still in the relegation zone with 5 matches remaining this season. Mark Reading won 2 for the home team, Stuart Carter and Jim Bloomfield 1 each and they won the doubles. Ken Crimes and Peadar McKinstry each won 2 for the visitors and Bryan Beer 1. St.Philips B beat Polish Catholic Club 7-3 at home where Gareth Palmer won 3, Dave Scowcroft 2, Dave Holden 1 and they won the doubles. Eddie Kalinowski won 2 for the visitors and Ian Byrne 1.

Division 3

Seedfield D look just about clear of relegation after their promotion last season from division 4 but had a 2-8 loss at home to divisional leaders ELPM B. Ali McKernan was the only home team player to get on the card with 2 fine wins. Alan Telfer just lost 9-11 in the 5th for Seedfield against Gerry Faulkner who won 2 on the night for the visitors as did Steve Greaves. John Dawes had 3 fine wins to keep him still in contention for the top ten. ELPM also won the doubles. Graham Daniels, Claybank maintains his lead at the top of the averages being 4 points ahead of John Dawes of division leaders ELPM B. Graham won his customary 3 at home against Hilton YMCA. Mark Crave and Mike Nichols added 1 each and they won the doubles. Alan Crompton and new signing Steve Ross each won 2 for the visitors; Barry Walsh failing to get on the score card and lost 3-11 in the 5th against Mike Nichols. Maccabi B played their A team and came out 10-0 winners; partly due to the A team fielding 2 reserves. Stuart Landes, Dean Clyne and Alan Meltzer each won their 3 for the B team plus the doubles and look likely candidates for promotion this season. Elton vale lost 3-7 at home to Seedfield C. Rodney Hall won 2 for the home team and Frank Green 1. Mike Charlton, Alan Carse and Peter Ingham all won 2 for the visitors and they won the doubles. Despite a 6-4 win at home ELPM C are at least 10 points away from safety in the regulation zone. Gill Marsden, Harry Uren and John Edge all won 2 each and all losing to Wayne Ellis who had 3 good wins to keep 4 points away from leading the top ten. Wayne had to go to the 5th game in his first match against John Edge and prevailed at 11-3. Shawfield B lost 4-6 at home to Stand. Terry Shaw won 2, Paul Nutter and Phil Herd 1 each. Chris Sutcliffe won his 3 for Stand with Dave Jackson 2 and they won the doubles.

Division 4

Holmar B beat Maccabi D 6-4 at home with Alan Hibbert and Martin Archer each winning 2, Jim Eardley 1 and they just sneaked the doubles at 11-6 in the 5th. Barry Cohen and Marc Sheldon each won 2 for the visitors. BGSOB A beat current promotion contenders Holmar A 6-4 at home. Barry Warburton had 3 fine wins including a win over top ten leader David Fletcher, Martyn Warburton 2 and they won the doubles. David Fletcher won 2 for the visitors, Phil Wardle and Geoff Crowther 1 each. Carlton Club C beat bottom team Seedfield E 7-3 at home. Keith Cheyne and John Bostock each won 3 for the home team and Clive Roberts had a bad night failing to get on the score card. Ian McKenzie, Jonathan Fitton and Adam Simpson each won one for the visitors. Maccabi C have an outside chance of promotion this season but need good results in the final few matches. There 7-3 win at home to Shawfield C helped their cause with Robert Clayton winning his 3, Less Suss and Aubrey Huller each adding 2. Roger Snowden and Peter Gregory each won 1 for the visitors and they won the doubles. Shawfield D lost 2-8 at home to Holmar C where Ashley and Andrew Ingham each won 1 for the home team. Ian McPherson and Ian Ferrari each won 3 for Holmar, Jack Berry 2 and they won the doubles. Prestwich F lost 2-8 at home to divisional leaders St.Sebastians. Alistair Wakefield and Martin Ingram each won 1 of Prestwich who only had 2 players. Mark Stevens and top ten leader Dave Hargreaves each won their 3, Brian Ward 1 and they won the doubles.

Division 5

The junior team of Shawfield G with only 1 win so far this season still soldier on and lost 0-10 to Shawfield E. Mark Lever, Lauren Brassington and Brian Philips each won 3 for the visitors and they won the doubles. Replacement team Holmar E won 8-2 at home to bottom team Seedfield G. Graham Wardle and David Bell each won their 3 for the home team, Roger Sallin 1 in his only outing so far this season and they won the doubles. Jim Murray and Barry Simpson each won 1 for the visitors. Seedfield F lost 1-9 against BGSOB B where Mike Ollerton won the only set for the home team against John Rowlands. Stephen Greenall was unlucky not to add another win for the home team when he lost 10-12 in the 5th against John Rowlands. Graham Hilton and John Greenhalgh each won 3 for BGSOB, John Rowlands 2 and they won the doubles. Promotion contenders Holmar D lost 4-6 at home against Maccabi E where Peter Canter was on good form winning his 3. Sheldon Lee won 2 and they won the doubles. Ian Ferrari won 2 for the home team with Neil Cowburn and Alan Fletcher adding 1 each. Shawfield F lost 3-7 at home to division leaders Ramsbottom D. All Shawfield players, Alex Braid, Mike Singleton and Joshua Fallows beat Bryan Edwards of Ramsbottom. Roy Steventon and Paul Wood each won 3 and Ramsbottom won the doubles. Wardle B won 8-2 at home to ELPM D where Harry Barlow was in fine form for the home team winning 3. Leader of the averages won David Watts won 2 as did Peter Ward and they won the doubles. Lawrence Paynter won 2 for the visitors which included a fine win over the top ten leader David Watts.
