Bury and District Table Tennis League Week 15 Match Report

Division 1

The only ‘blemish’ on the score card for clear divisional leaders Ramsbottom A that they lost the doubles at 9 in the 5th against their C team. Brian Clements, Mick Moir and Andy Jackson each won their 3 for the A team. Burning Desire beat Carlton A 7-3 where Steve Barber and Ben Armstrong were on fine form each winning their 3. Andy Kaye added their other win. 3 sets went to 5 games and the home team won all of them. Ian Quinn and Phil Myers each won 1 for the visitors plus they won the doubles in 3 tight games; 11, 8 and 11.With only 2 players visitors Little Lever beat Prestwich A 6-4. Steve McNicholas was on good form for the visitors winning his 3 and Ronnie Durose added 2 and they won the doubles. Colin Boardman had a fine win over Ronnie Durose to win 2 with Adam Rowbotham and Joe Redikin each winning 1. New team to the League this season BAE continued their good form by beating bottom of the division ELPM A 10-0 at home. Tony Bates, Tom Lang and Tony Smith each won their 3 for the home team plus they won the doubles. Struggling in 10th place Seedfield A had a fine draw at home to Hilton Bury. Peter Mears won 2 for the home team, only losing at 9 in the 5th to Bill Russell. David Poytress and Rob Carter each added 1 and they won the doubles. Bill Russell was unbeaten for the visitors and Callan Tolliday added 2.

Division 2

Adelphi had a convincing 9-1 win at home to Polish Catholic Club where Lee Devenport and Tommy Ryan were unbeaten, Ken Hayes added 2 and they won the doubles. Only Ian Byrne could get on the score card for the visitors. Contender for top honours in this division Wardle A had a 9-1 win against Prestwich E. Paul Howarth and Simon Walsh each won 3, Dennis Bradshaw 2 and they won the doubles. Only Barrie Fleet managed 1 win for Prestwich. Prestwich C had reversed fortunes to their E team by winning 10-0 at home to Seedfield B. Peadar McKinstry, Bryan Beer and Steve Hathaway each won their 3 plus the doubles. Grubba Fans beat Prestwich D 8-2 at home. Lukasz Serdiuk won his 3 for Grubba, Marek Maraszkiewicz and Damian Bednarski each won 2 plus they won the doubles. Andy Evans was the only Prestwich player to get on the score card win 2 wins. Carlton Club B lost 3-7 at home to Prestwich B. Mark Reading won 2 for the home side and Jim Bloomfield added 1. Eddie Simon won his 3 for Prestwich with Keith Butler adding 2, Alex Waring 1 and they won the doubles.

Division 3

9th placed Seedfield C had a fine draw at home to 2nd placed Maccabi B. Alan Carse and Mike Charlton each won 2 for the home team and they won the doubles. 15 year old Dean Clyne was on fine form for the visitors with 3 wins with Alan Meltzer and Frank Sheldon each adding 1. Shawfield B are out playing their A team this season and showed their form to win 8-2. Wayne Ellis was the only A team player to win and won 2. Terry Shaw won his 3 for the B team with Phil Herd and Paul Nutter each adding 2 plus the doubles. ELPM B had a fine 8-2 home win against Stand to keep them a full 20 points ahead of 2nd placed Maccabi B. Mark Willmore and John Dawes each won their 3 for ELPM and Gerry Faulkner 2. Chris Sutcliffe won 1 but went to 5 and lost in his other 2 matches. Stand also won the doubles. Mid tabled Claybank met Elton Vale at home and just won 6-4 in the last set of the night. Graham Daniels won his 3 on the night and it was his last win at 5, 7 and 4 against Keith Mills that got their win. Mike Nichols added 2 for the home team and they won the doubles. Rodney Hall won 2 for the visitors with Keith Mills and Jim Bollard each winning 1. Maccabi A lost 3-7 at home to ELPM C. Melvyn Leven, Robert Williams and Edward Freeman all beat Harry Uren of ELPM. Gillian Marsden and John Edge each won their 3 for ELPM and they added the doubles.

Division 4

Seedfield E were so close to their first win of the season when they shared the points with visitors Holmar B at 4-4 going into the last 2 sets, which they lost! Jonathan Fitton won 2 for the home team, Adam Simpson 1 and they won the doubles. Jim Eardley won his 3 for the visitors, Martin Archer 2 and Tom Corbett 1. Holmar A has narrow 2 points lead at the head of the division and their 8-2 win at home against Prestwich F helped their position. David Fletcher won his 3 which keeps 1 win behind Dave Hargreaves of St.Sebastians, Phil Wardle and Geoff Crowther each won 2 plus they won the doubles. Rod Hughes and Martin Ingram won 1 each for Prestwich. St.Sebastians won 7-3 at home to Maccabi C. Mark Stevens and Dave Hargreaves each won 3 and they won the doubles. Les Suss, Stuart Simpson and Robert Clayton each won 1 for Maccabi. Close to relegation Shawfield C drew with their D team who are in a similar position. Peter Gregory won his 3 for the C, Alistair MacIver 1 and they won the doubles. Ashley Ingham and Barry Collier each won 2 for the D team and Andrew Ingham 1. Carlton Club C are seeing their relegation hopes slipping though a 7-3 win at home to BGSOB A did their chances no harm. John Bostock won 3 for the home team, Keith Cheyne 2, Clive Roberts 1 and they won the doubles. Barry Warburton won 2 for the visitors and Martyn Warburton 1.

Division 5

Maccabi E beat Wardle B 6-4 at home where Peter Canter, Gary Freeman and Bobby Lee each won 3 for the visitors. David Watts won his 3 for Wardle to keep him top of the averages and they won the doubles. Holmar D beat their E team 9-1 at home. Grubba Fans B withdrew the team at the end of the first half of the season because they could not get players to play regularly. Holmar agreed to put a team in and to give the new team, the E some idea where they would finish at the end of the season, had they played the first half, the League agreed to delete all Grubba’s results. This 9-1 results has also been entered in for ‘the reverse fixture in the first half of the season. This will happen for all their remaining matches. Holmar E will not affect promotion of the first 2 teams at the end of the season. Jack Berry and Alan Fletcher each won 3 for the D team, Ian Ferrari 2 and they won the doubles. Nigel Shaw was the sole winner for the E team. BGSOB B beat Shawfield G 10-0 at home. Graham Hilton, John Greenhalgh and John Rowlands all won 3 for the home team and they won the doubles. Shawfield E beat their F team 10-0 where Mark Lever, Brian Philips and Lauren Brassington each won 3 and they won the doubles. Seedfield F beat their G team 10-0 with Mike Ollerton, Dave Tarver and Steve Greenall each winning 3 and the doubles. ELPM D lost 2-8 to Ramsbottom D where Lawrence Paynter had the 2 wins for the home team. Neil Booth won his 3 for the visitors with Roy Steventon and Callum Stott each adding 2 plus they won the doubles.
