Juniors
With
a few non shows the event was down to two groups of five with winners and
runners up going through to the semi-finals.
In the first group twelve
year old Harry Bell continued his good form to win the group from Adam Gilman.
Adam was the only player in the group who wasn’t from Ramsbottom Table Tennis
Academy. Oliver Murphy and Callum Burchett were playing in the championship for
the first time in any competitive event. Sam Murphy (no relation) has played in
the ETT Cadet League this year and is showing promise at just eleven years old.
In the second group ‘top
seed’ by virtue of his % wins in division five this year could only manage a
runner up spot to Daniel Olsberg of Maccabi. When Daniel played Dominic in the
group stage they had a marathon 21-19 first game which Dominic won. Dominic
also won the second game 11-9 but Daniel was able to up his game and take the
next three 6, 8 and 9 for a fine win. Adam Kenzitt was the third member of the
group who had experience of playing in the Bury and ETTA cadet League. Morgan
Hewitt and Luca Ellis made up the five as two fairly new members of Ramsbottom
Academy.
Semi Finals
In
the first Semi team mates from Maccabi Daniel and Adam faced each other and it
was Daniel who opened the proceedings by taking the first game 11-8. Adam
played a tense second which he took 13-11. Back to Daniel in the third which he
won 11-7 so could he hold his nerve to take the forth. It was very close and
yes he just managed the win 12 - 10.
In
the second semi team mates from Ramsbottom Dominic and harry had a quicker
match which Dominic took 7, 5, and 8 to book a place in the final against
Daniel and to see whether he can gain revenge after his defeat to him in the
group stage.
