Division 3 Handicap

This division was almost an ‘inter club’ event with three of the four players from the same club, Elton Vale. David Cain made it the fourth member and he was from Ramsbottom Town making a welcomed return to TT after many years absence. There was a fifth member in the group who withdrew before the start. This event was played in a group with everyone playing everyone else. The winner on sets won and runner up would play in the final.

Jim Bollard

Making the best use of his five point advantage David was able to hold on and win by the narrowest of margins. In a marathon second game which Jim won 17-15.

Only one point separated Rodney and League Chairman Frank but Frank won three of the four games and his first of two wins.

Frank had a flying start which he needed to claw back a six point deficit from David. Despite losing the first game he won the next by ten points and the next by five. He narrowly lost the final game 10 12 but had enough in hand to win for the second time.

Level pegging at the start of the match and two close games taken by Rodney so a four point lead. This was wiped out by Jim winning the next by five and holding on to win the next by two.

Rodney was too steady for David taking thirteen points in the first two games to lead by eight. His lead was narrowed to five when David took the next game and Rodney took the last by four to have a comfortable nine point lead at the end.

With Frank already through to the final he was able to relax against team mate Rodney who won three of the four games but finished third in the group so missing out on the final.

The Final

Chairman Frank started the match one point adrift to team mate Jim and it was Jim who took the first game by five points to put him four ahead. Frank came back in the second to win by two. A very close third game which Jim took twelve points to ten to hold a comfortable six point lead. Jim was able to extend that to eight points by winning the last game eleven nine to take the division three title.
