Division 2 Handicap

There were three groups of four and one of five. In group one Gabriel Wilding showed why he was the lowest handicap by winning the group but highest handicap Mark Crave off 20 finished runner up. Peadar McKinstry led group two and Mark Reading finished runner up off 11 handicap. Third in group 3 saw Dave Holden win this group and Derek Watmough finished runner up off 5 handicap. In the final group that ‘went to form’ with Robert Bent winning and Ian Cockcroft finishing runner up.

Despite a nine point deficit Gabriel Wilding was able to convert that in to a four point win despite losing the second game 12-14. Mark Reading was too steady for Derek by taking the first two games 1 and 3. Despite a fight back from Derek winning the last two games it wasn’t enough to see him through to the semis. Coming back from a 15 point deficit and winning all four games Robert Bent won by four in the end. Peadar won every game 8,8,5 and 6 to have a fairly comfortable win by nine.

Quarter Finals

The first semi-final was between Gabriel Wilding and Mark Reading with Mark starting with a ten point advantage. Two very close games with Gabriel winning at nine and ten to narrow the gap by four and he doubled that in the next game to be just two points behind. Mark played a very close last game to actually win that eleven nine and to win by four.

The score card wasn’t available for the second semi between Robert Bent and Peadar McKinstry. Robert won the semi to put him in the final against Mark Reading.

The Final

Robert was conceding six points to Mark and in the first game it couldn’t be closer at twelve ten to Mark to increase his lead to eight. Robert hit back in the next game to half his deficit winning eleven nine. But it all went wrong in the next game which Martk won by ten points. With the deficit too great; fourteen points Robert conceded the last game to save his energies for other draws he was still involved with in the latter stages.
